Notice to all Illinois bloggers and commenters

Tuesday, Mar 14, 2006

Fox News Chicago has invited me to appear on their election night program. It will run from 9pm until 11pm.

I’m going to be doing some instant analysis stuff, but part of the schtick will be reporting on what the blogs are saying around the state and what commenters are saying right here.

This will obviously be a great opportunity to hype the Capitol Fax Blog and Illinoize, but it will also introduce people to lots of other blogs and bloggers throughout the state. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Please, live blog election night, especially between 9 and 11. And try to give me a heads up about what you plan to do in advance.

There is a lot of talent out there, and we’ve been given an opportunity to showcase it on election night. I also think it’s fantastic that a mainstream media outlet is taking interest in what’s going on in the blog world. Kudos to them.

I’m also scheduled to do the Illinois Radio Network that night, and the station has said they’ll provide me with a phone hookup for that gig. Should be busy, but lots of fun.

I’ve been thinking of going to some election headquarters. Would be nice to know if some are at places with a good wi fi connection.

  2. - girl friday - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 6:42 am:

Count me in. I would love for the rest of the state to hear about what has been going on in state agencies since this administration took over.

  3. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 6:42 am:

Congrats to you Rich - Great idea. Here is one comment from your blog! Robin Robbinson is the best local TV personality in Chicago!

  4. - Marta Elena - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:01 am:

Best wishes to you on election night, Rich.

  5. - anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:03 am:

Congrats maybe! If that FOX station is as bad as the national cable one and our downstate one I am usure if I should congratulate you or offer condolences.

  6. - Cassandra - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:28 am:

Yes, congratulations. Added to Sun Times gig, this again shows that your hard work is paying off. It’s well deserved.

  7. - DOWNSTATE - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:35 am:

Rich I don’t mean to change the subject but Weigman it us down here with a new one and it is as bad as the old one.Now she has JBT in it.

  8. - Reddbyrd - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:48 am:

The CaptFax Blogmeister is starting to look like GE or the giant Pillsbury Doughboy in Ghostbusters —- he is overtaking all media in Illinois. (Actually we all know Rich is hotter than Robin Robinson and that’s why Fox wants him on set)
Wonder is the WFLD-TV Fox32 can be seen on the web so us downstate yokels can Chicago TV?
More importantly will Rich remember us when he launches CapFax World Edition is a few months?

  9. - Backyard Conservative - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:48 am:

Good for you! You do great work!

I will let you know about election blogging.

  10. - Tessa - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 8:26 am:

Coming out of hiding long enough to tell you - Great job Rich! You deserve this.

  11. - zatoichi - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:03 am:

Way to go Rich. Wish I could see it in Central Illinois. Is a White Sox announcing gig far behind?

  12. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:28 am:

Glad to see the hard work paying off for you.

  13. - So-Called "Austin Mayor" - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:29 am:

    Rich,

I will probably have my hands full on election night, but I am sure that you will make all of Blogginoise proud.

    – S.C.A.M.

  14. - Salcoratti - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:32 am:

Have you heard of the term MILF? That’s what I think when I see Robin Robinson.

  15. - Gordy Hulten - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:33 am:

    Rich,

I’m going to live-blog Champaign County results from our Clerk’s office, and statewide results as they trickle in via internet or TV.

    Thanks for the idea.

  16. - Levois - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 9:59 am:

I wish I can see you on that day. Either way good luck on that.

  17. - Lincoln's Logs - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 10:04 am:

    Good deal Rich.

  18. - bored now - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 10:57 am:

let me add to the congratulations. i’ll definitely be watching on tv — headed home the minute the polls close (my tradition, given that i am worn out by the time election day rolls around)…

  19. - Schiznitz - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 12:13 pm:

Rich is one sexy beast. I’d almost think of converting, but it would mean Jack Roeser would picket me the rest of his natural life.

  20. - Establishment Republican - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 1:17 pm:

Is Fox Chicago going to preempt any portion of American Idol with election returns between 7 and 9? Will they be running numbers at the bottom of the screen while the Idols are performing?

What happens if people can’t find the phone number to vote for Stroger at the end of the show?

Will people confuse Ryan Seacrest with Mark Suppelsa? Paula Abdul with Robin Robinson? Jack Conaty with Simon Cowell?

  21. - Truthful James - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 2:37 pm:

Not to worry, Rich Miller is the real American Idle…woops, Idol.

  22. - Pat Hickey - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 3:02 pm:

Rich, great opportunity; I would demand to have ‘Special Election Night Coverage’ by Michele Leigh or no show.

  23. - Mr T - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 3:50 pm:

Rich, a suggestion and request. Suggestion is you shave your beard for your tv spot. Request is that you do some secret hand gesture, perhaps tug on your ear during the tv show like Carol Burnett used to do, Or if Walter Jacobson is next to you while he is talking you just slap him upside the head. As far as Illinois Politics goes “You are the Man”

  24. - diane - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 4:06 pm:

What a good idea, wish we were able to be in Chicago to watch, but will report from the metro east area of S. Illinois

  25. - Six Degrees of Separation - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 7:20 pm:

    Mr T:

I say Rich keeps the beard. That way, he can carry on in the best Dick Kay tradition. Does anybody remember the dye job Mr. Kay had for awhile on his beard? It looked like it was straight out of a bottle of Kiwi polish. Perhaps Rich should “enhance” his beard rather than shave it. BTW, I liked Mr. Kay.

  26. - WhyFox - Tuesday, Mar 14, 06 @ 11:13 pm:

    Good for you…but seriously, FOX??

  27. - Criminal Enterprise Called Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 15, 06 @ 2:37 am:

Way to go Rich! You have earned every bit of all of this acclaim and more! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Good to know that nice, real people can make it in the Patch.

  28. - Beowulf - Wednesday, Mar 15, 06 @ 7:09 am:

Keep the beard, be yourself, and don’t go getting a bottle of Kiwi. Your friends and supporters like Rich for being “just Rich-the real deal”. Don’t go changing on us.
Also, don’t start worrying about what is “politically correct” to say with Fox. They obviously want you to be with them because you are doing something right. Be true to yourself. But, I know I didn’t have to remind you to do that.

  29. - BigMac - Thursday, Mar 16, 06 @ 1:22 am:

I’m an elections judge in Rock Island County. Expect a report after the polls close.
