Late morning shorts

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

· My syndicated column which uses your comments about Obama has finally been posted online.

· UPDATE: Funeral services scheduled for George Dunne

· Guv won’t release Goldman Sachs report on lottery sale.

· Durbin says Obama should run for prez

· SJ-R editorial: Billion-dollar lottery question

· Debate tidbits.

· “You can’t hide your Ryan ties

· Governor ran a poll on Meeks, lottery… Survey casts doubt on `no politics’ claim

· Erickson/Adrian: “We wondered: Is there more to the plan out there, like a big binder titled ‘Details of the governor’s school funding plan?’ Or, is it just a news release, a one-page financial breakdown and the fancy PowerPoint slideshow? Blagojevich spokeswoman Rebecca Rausch told us there wasn’t anything else. ‘That’s it,’ she said.”

· Southtown editorial: State Senate takes sneaky route to avoid pay raise issue

· McQueary to guv’s people: “If that’s your story, at least wear the clown nose while saying it.”

I’m glad you kept morning shots — thanks!

  2. - Pat Hickey - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 12:33 pm:

George Dunne’s Campaign Slogan “This Job Is About People” was the proper mantra for public servants - elected and appointed. Doing something for people is now construed as corruption. God help us.

  3. - Wheres the leadership??? - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 1:17 pm:

Southtown was right on in their editiorial. Legislative salaries and pensions should be the SAME as the Merit Comp raises and pension funding % each year.

  4. - Joe - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 2:42 pm:

Of course they aren’t going to release the details on the lottery-education plan. We can’t let someone willing to spend $10B for an income stream of $650M know that the state of Illinois is going to turn around and invest $6B to get that same $650M return!

  5. - Lovie's Leather - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 3:50 pm:

Durbin said that Obama should run for prez?! A first-term Senator? oy…. what a putz….

  6. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 5:15 pm:

McQuery column was awesome, and I find myself agreeing with Frank Watson for once.

As I said last week, when is a plan not a plan? When it’s secret.

  7. - Tessa - Tuesday, May 30, 06 @ 7:42 pm:

Wow. Go out of town for a vacation and look at what happens. I’m glad you didn’t stop the morning shorts, Rich. Still trying to catch up on the news I missed and can never get over what the Gov does. Sheesh.

  8. - ironman - Wednesday, May 31, 06 @ 1:47 am:

The gov’s lottery scam will end up like the state employee’s pension plan….=billions in debt!!!!!!

  9. - Merlin - Wednesday, May 31, 06 @ 6:03 pm:

Who can help fix the City of Chicago Department of Aviation employee contact website. It has been so wrong for so long most of the employees are either gone or dead. The Commissioner is still listed as Thomas Walker. The main # connects to FedEx.

Check for yourself. Go to the City of Chicago website and then to “Contact Us”.

When you click on the little telephone icon that reads “City Phone Directory” and click on Aviation they provide the main # as 773-601-2255 which connects to Fedex. All the phone numbers are wrong, disconnected or fax numbers. I tried to get the department to fix this several times and did not receive a response.

  10. - Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, May 31, 06 @ 6:45 pm:

I guess the “list of 1800″ didn’t break til late in the day.
