Question of the day

Friday, Jun 29, 2007

Paul and I won’t be posting next week. The General Assembly is adjourning until the following week, so expect us to return on Tuesday, July 10.

Question: What are your 4th of July plans?

  1. - Snark - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:05 am:

    Inquiry of the blog:

Are there any developments that may cause you to update the blog? Perhaps and item requiring attention from east-central Illinois?

I plan to spend my free time catching up on old movies.

  2. - Duston - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:05 am:

If you’ll pardon the bit of self-promotion, Wednesday morning I’ll be performing at Union Square Park in Springfield (we play 18th and 19th century dance music), and then cooking something on the grill and watching some fireworks that night. By the way, the Union Square Park events are free and open to the Public!

  3. - michael k - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:07 am:

This is my last summer in Chicago. I’m moving to LA. I’ve lived here for 24 years. So, just for the hell of it, I’m going to the Taste of Chicago.

  4. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:07 am:

Snark, if they put that item online I will certainly interrupt my vacation to post it here.

If they don’t put it online and someone can scan it in and fax it to me (and since the photos of “C” probably won’t be online, I’d like to see those as well) then I will also interrupt my vacation.

Other than that, it’ll take a very big development to pry me off the boat or away from the grill.

  5. - Anon - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:18 am:

I plan on spending my electric rate refund check on horse meat.

  6. - Captain America - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:22 am:

As you might expect from my pseudonym, July 4th is a busy day for me. You can be sure, I’ll be wearing soemthing red, white, and blue.

    Marching in three parades:
    Des Plaines: Jan Schakowsky
    Skokie: Lou Lang
    Evanston: Jan Schakowsky

The Evanston event is one of my favorite parades to watch. If I wasn’t marching in the first two parades, I’d go to the old fashioned July 4th celebration at the Chicago Historical Society -it’s always enjoyable.

Afterwards, I’ll probably go to the Evanston lakefront for some patriotic music, but I’ll probably be too tired to stay for the fireworks.

  7. - anon - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:42 am:

Sox game on the 4th….we’re coming back and hopefully we’ll have Buehrle along for a few more years.

  8. - Downstate Red - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:44 am:

I’m gonna take some time off, barbeque, drink some beer and shoot some roadsigns as I drive down the road in my pick-up.

In honor of our legislators who want to take away my 12 gauge, of course.

  9. - Levois - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:54 am:

    BBQ!

  10. - Don Gwinn - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 10:56 am:

Wow, Captain America is on Jan Schakowsky’s side . . . . maybe Tony Stark was right. :)

On the 4th, we’ll be grilling and watching fireworks at night, but I’ll be taking my boys shooting in the morning. It’s kind of ironic that firecrackers are illegal in this state, so to make noise legally, they need rifles. :)

This weekend . . . . St. Louis Throwdown, baby. We’re going to hang out at the Belleville Judo Club while I get beaten up, choked and cranked. Everybody’s welcome, by the way, but if you’re not fighting, we’ll probably put a camera in your hand.
    http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=53778

    Everybody have a great weekend!

  11. - The Truth - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 11:17 am:

I am going to drink 1,000 beers. No more, no less.

  12. - Guy Montag - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 11:20 am:

Beer, barbeque, babes and blowing crap up. If that’s not American, then I don’t know what is.

  13. - Siyotanka - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 11:41 am:

To present the Colors for the 4th of July Celebration at the State Capital…9:30 PM…be there

  14. - hollyringo - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:09 pm:

Red, White and Boom in lovely downtown Rock Island. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.

  15. - zatoichi - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:26 pm:

I will be forced to adjourn to several private retreats to review the qualities of Rolling Rock and Sam Adams compared to what ever cold ones happen to show up. It will be a highly scientific approach with brats and fireworks as independent variables. Will likely put in some time saving the world during Day of Defeat Source on Steam.

  16. - VanillaMan - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:26 pm:

    Going to Taste.
    Seeing the family.
Overnighting at the Hilton and watching the fireworks from there.

  17. - jwscott72 - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:33 pm:

Tonight: At the Springfield Marina tonight for some “illuminations” (hat tip to our Founders). Weekend: Cookouts and lazing around.
    Monday and Tuesday: Work :(
Wednesday: Fireworks on the Capitol lawn.
    Thursday: Vacation Day
    Friday: Day off.

Thinking about catching the the train to Chicago for the Taste. Will have money now that some budget is passed. Happy 4th to everyone!

  18. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:46 pm:

What time does the thing start at the marina?

  19. - Blago Must Go - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:54 pm:

Lodge Park in Monticello for the Freedom Celebration. My family and I have been going there for 35 years. A wonderful place and one of the best fireworks displays in Illinois. God Bless America.

  20. - ChicagoSouthSide - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 12:55 pm:

    Keepin’ it in the ‘hood…
5k Race in Tinley Park a.m.
Marching in the Park Forest parade at 6PM. Yes, the Park Forest Running and Pancake Club will be in full force! (blatant plug: www.pfrpc.com)

In between? Making it red white and blue….start with the bubbly..that’s white, then red wine and blue…well, if it’s cool out, I’ll take a chilly dip in my pool, which should turn me blue. (yes, my pool—the $12.99 Toys R Us plastic, non blow up 6 inch deep deal–hey, it’s Something!)
    Everyone have a fine Fourth!

  21. - 45 - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 1:00 pm:

Celebrating our independence and getting ready to come back to work on my birthday (July 10)

  22. - He makes Ryan look like a saint - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 1:52 pm:

Now there is a Special Session, will you be posting next week?

  23. - i d - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 2:29 pm:

I plan to celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July and not during the coming weekend.

  24. - jwscott72 - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 2:32 pm:

Rich, the fireworks go off after 9:30, but I don’t have my ticket on me at the moment. I’ll find out and get back to you.

  25. - Justice - Friday, Jun 29, 07 @ 2:53 pm:

Heading to Montana. A bit of out backing, fishing, and running from bears. There to tag mosquitoes to determine migration patterns…really, just there to fish and drink hooch.

  26. - Northern Exposure - Saturday, Jun 30, 07 @ 12:35 pm:

Watching the largest fireworks display in the state from our boat on the Rock River in beautiful downtown Rockford. God Bless America and Joe Marino for organizing the greatest fireworks extravaganza in Illinois. This man, in his 80’s has been doing this for decades. We don’t call him “Mr. Fourth of July” for nothing around here. Hooray for my city in overriding the Governor’s veto yesterday too! Talk about reasons to celebrate!
