Question of the day

Friday, Jul 6, 2007

As you probably know, the giant media empire behind “The Simpson’s” TV show and movie is hosting a contest to see which Springfield is most like the mythical Springfield we’ve all grown to know and love. You can vote here.

Question: Match Simpson characters, places and events to their Statehouse counterparts. Snark is heavily encouraged, of course. Have as much fun as possible.

    Homer and Bart pass a mysterious billboard that reads: OBAMA IS COMING!

    Bart: Obama is coming? Who’s Obama???
    Homer: He’ll tell us what to do!

  2. - Wumpus - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:09 am:

    How about The Simpsons=the budget mess. It used to be funny, but has gone on way too long. If this movie were made 3 years ago, maybe I’d have gone to see it. The show is now a mere shadow of its former self.

  3. - Ravenswood Right Winger - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:10 am:

    Lisa=Lisa Madigan. Both very intelligent and named Lisa.

    Sam Panayatovich=Moe the bartender.

  4. - Gene Parmesan - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:21 am:

    Rod’s gotta be Mayor Quimby.

  5. - Capitol Out My Window - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:23 am:

    Marge=Blago. It’s the hair.

  6. - Some Guy - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:30 am:

    Mayor Quimby = Mayor Daley. OK, he’s not in Springfield, but dammit, it’s a good match. Both Irish. Both politicians running big cities. Both have been doing it for about 20 years. Both assorted with corruption. Both admitted to using city funds to murder political opponents and got out of it by quoting Gabbo.

    And as long as I’m shifting from Springfield, IL to IL politics in general: Barney = Phil Crane.

  7. - 105th Blues - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:31 am:

    Blago = Mayor Quimby
    Frank Watson = Homer
    Jesse White = Dr. Hibbert
    Sen. Righter = Ned Flanders
    Lt. Guv = Smithers
    Giannoulis = Troy McClure

  8. - Levois - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:41 am:

    At least Blago isn’t a womanizer (as far as we know) like Mayor Quimby. :-P

  9. - Gene Parmesan - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:45 am:

    Emil Jones- Mr. Burns
    Rickey Hendon- Smithers

  10. - Some Guy - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:49 am:

    Good Old Gil = pretty much any member of the IL GOP these days.

    Oberweis = Homer. I can see Homer trying to pass off that straw vote thing and expecting people to go along with it.

  11. - Chicago Cynic - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:49 am:

    Am I the only one seeing the Speaker as Mr. Burns….and Rod as Homer. Another subpoena. DOH!

  12. - Levois - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:53 am:

    Rod needs to eat more donuts to be Homer.

  13. - Educator - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 10:53 am:

    Sen. Martin Sandoval=The Bumble Bee man

  14. - WhoSaidThat - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 11:09 am:

    The Simpson family visits the Lincoln Presidential Library. While walking towards the building Borack Obmoma steps out and introduces himself to the Simpson family and informs them that he is running for president. Homer quickly grabs his kids and pulls them back. Lookout everybody! It’s a read-side Obmoma! At that point a car backfires and Homer jumps two feet into the air and lets out a shriek and then runs into the library. Homer then walks up to a receptionist and asks her where the car and driver magazines are. At this point the script writer steps in the scene and tells homer that this skit is supposed to be taking place at the capital. Homer lets out a load DOTE! The next scene then has Homer walking around the old state capital where he runs into Mike Jacobs. Mike is throwing darts at a picture of Rod Blagojevich. Homer demands to know why the politicians aren’t there. I heard that they were having a special session today just for me. Jacobs tells Homer that they have been having a special session everyday for the last two months. Homer asks “Well what’s so special about that?” Jacobs just shakes his head and starts throwing the darts as hard as he can at the picture of Rod.

  15. - Punky QB - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 11:11 am:

    Chapin Rose is a little bit like comic book guy. Every dem bill is the “worst bill ever”. JBT had a very lunchlady doris quality as well.

  16. - Homer for President - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 11:23 am:

    Blago = Apu at Kwik E Mart (he has the hair and in regards to Special Session…”Thank you, Come again.” or Ralph Wiggum
    Madigan = Nelson “ha ha” Muntz
    Jones = Mr. Burns
    Rich Miller = Kent Brockman
    Lisa Madigan = Superintendent Chalmers
    Sen. Haine = Prof. Frink

  17. - Tom - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 11:23 am:

    Topinka as chain smoking Patty or Selma. Who would be her twin?

    Krusty = Rich Miller, for keeping everyone entertained during overtime.

  18. - Southern Man - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 12:10 pm:

    Mike Madigan is definitely Mr. Burns, huddled in his office, wringing his hands, plotting his next move to enrich himself and weild even more power!

  19. - grad student - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 12:21 pm:

    Blago is Chief Wiggum. He is supposed to be in charge, but usually asleep at the wheel or can’t find his gun.

  20. - Anon - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 12:43 pm:

    Blago is Snake……first the hair (which was evil and had a life of it’s own on one Halloween show) and second his….um….tendencies to act outside of the law.

  21. - Levois - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 1:16 pm:

    Na Jones can’t be Mr. Burns. He’d be more of a recurring one time character. Perhaps Jones can be Principal Skinner.

  22. - Cal Skinner - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 1:30 pm:

    What?

    I don’t get to be Principal Skinner?

  23. - Vote for Springfield IL - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 2:25 pm:

    While we’re on this topic, we should all remember to vote for Springfield, IL. According to the SJ-R, our Springfield currently holds a thin lead in the race. You can vote here: thesimpsons.usatoday.com

    Get the word out!

  24. - David Starrett - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 2:38 pm:

    I can deffinitely see Rod standing in front of a cheering crowd and thinking it’s cool to call himself a jelly doughnut. That’s what Quimby would do.

  25. - Krusty - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 3:12 pm:

    Lisa Dugan for Selma.

  26. - Moe - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 5:39 pm:

    What are those damn Shelbyvilleans up to on this contest?

  27. - Disgusted - Friday, Jul 6, 07 @ 8:02 pm:

    Barbara Flynn Curry as Marge.

  28. - Stu - Saturday, Jul 7, 07 @ 7:00 am:

    This show is still on the air? That’s sad.
