Vote for your favorite

Friday, Oct 19, 2007

* I can’t make up my mind about who should win the t-shirt from yesterday’s QOTD, so I’m leaving it up to you. I’m partial to “unclesam’s” entry, but let’s put this up for a vote.

Please, vote only once. I know this is Illinois, but let’s at least try to keep our own election clean…

* “unclesam”

I pledge allegiance to Illinois,
and to the power of the Three.
And we shall not be done,
’til it’s a power of One,
And the only choice is ME!

I thought perhaps that I could include a photo of each of the three leaders under that last line, like maybe these…

* “Austin Mayor”

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of Illinois,
Rod R. Blagojevich, Governor,
And to the Republic, Rod R. Blagojevich, Governor,
For which it stands.
One Nation under God, indivisible,
With Liberty, Justice and Rod R. Blagojevich, Governor for all.

* “train111″

I pledge allegiance to the Illinois flag
and to the politicians that top dollar can buy
To the corruption for which it stands
One cesspool
in the heartland
With favors and payouts for the few.

* “God’s Country”

I pledge allegiance to the Blago,
of the deserted mansion in Springfield,
and to the hairstyle, which never moves,
one mindset, that of Rod’s,
with Elvis impersonators and mammograms for all.

* “Yellow Dog Democrat”

I pledge allegiance
to the flag
of the Land of Lincoln.

And to the system,
in Combine’s hands,
Where something’s really stinkin’.

Plenty of contracts
to go around
For those who have the Clout.

But if you want health care,
or better schools,
You’ll have to go without.

* “Poli-Sci Geek”

I pledge allegiance,
to the flag of the great state of illinois,
cuz some guy sent me,
to work this ward,
for some guy I don’t know,
so I might, someday, get a job.

* “The Curmudgeon”

I pledge allegiance to Illinoize
To the good old girls and the good old boys
Who run this State for a favored few,
And to their family members
Who will succeed them:
I pledge my wallet and my vote,
I pledge my car, I pledge my boat,
I pledge the Cubs’ famed Billy Goat.
I pledge to pay and pay and then
I pledge to pay and pay again.

    They are all very good. SCAM and Poli-Sci made me LOL. But I vote for Train 111.

    I’ll be back with my family, my neighbors and all the registered voters in my household who don’t really live there to vote for Train.

    The Curmudgeon, it just has a classy Dr. Seuss thing going on.

    Curmudgeon. He hits the perfect note.

  14. - Silent Majority - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 10:36 am:

    1/2 vote Train111

    1/2 vote Austin Mayor

    The 36 people in the cemetary down the road vote the same.

  15. - Jaded - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 10:37 am:

    Poli Sci Geek. Cause its funny, true, and hasn’t gotten many votes.

    If none of them get 50% + 1, do we get to vote for the top two in a run-off?

  16. - cermak_rd - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 10:40 am:

    That’s a good question (the run-off) and it should elicit a comment from Squid about IRV in 5..4..3…

    I vote for Polisci Geek. He left out a line though “and don’t send nobody nobody knows.”

    That being said, the best remains from Gobearrs yesterday. Consider this a write in for that one.

  23. - Six Degrees of Separation - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 11:14 am:

    Rich-

    You lied. One of the finalists (Curmudgeon) has the word “Cubs” in it.

    I favor unclesam for the strong Trinitarian reference. I thought I was reading from a hymnal during my Moment of Silence.

  26. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 11:25 am:

    Train 111. As much as I love the photoshopped pic of The Hair, a good pledge needs to be timeless.

  27. - KiR - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 11:25 am:

    Train 111 is the best

  28. - Rod sez I'm pork - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 11:29 am:

    A tip of the hat to God’s Country, but my vote goes to Austin Mayor. One wonders if G-Rod will ever notice that the sign on the Skyway from Indiana does not mention him or the State of Illinois.

  29. - Jaded - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 11:32 am:

    Personally Rich, I am not sure anyone had the perfect pledge, so I think you should have cherry picked from several to come up with the perfect pledge. You know, kinda like Glenn Poshard did with his thesis!

    I would vote for mine (and then log in under other names and cast more votes for mine), but it didn’t make the final cut. :(

    Maybe I can get the governor to line out the finalists and replace them with mine. Now, if I can only come up with enough money for a big contribution…

  44. - Just Sayin' - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 12:24 pm:

    Curmudgeon’s got my vote

  45. - unclesam - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 12:25 pm:

    Rich,

    You forgot (*wink, wink*) to inform the electorate about the voting rules, which are as follows:

    There is, effectively, only one choice — as noted in the preferred selection, and that any vote cast otherwise is null and void, and automatically reverts to “unclesam.”

    That is how the voting is done in Illinois.

    So, in a show of unity, I cast my vote for Train 111 (which now automatically reverts to “unclesam”).

  46. - phocion - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 12:27 pm:

    A tough choice because I liked, train111, unclesam, and Curmudgeon. But afer considering all 3 again, I vote for Curmudgeon. Thanks it’s been fun.

    It’s time for Happy Hour!

  53. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 2:33 pm:

    This just in…

    The Governor has lined out all of the pledges listed this morning and will be replacing them with his own pledge later today. The pledge is being developed by close advisers and anyone who objects will be demoted or fired. Money for development and dissemination of the new pledge will come from a new casino on Lake Michigan, which will be the world’s largest floating casino. Additional revenues will be obtained by fining cars who park too long in the casino’s lot and thereby prevent lot cleaning. The Governor will be calling the legislature to session at 11 pm Saturday night to approve the pledge and funding. (The House will be required to attend, Senate attendance will be optional.)

  54. - Ivory-billed Woodpecker - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 2:35 pm:

    Poli-Sci Geek.

  55. - Lainer - Friday, Oct 19, 07 @ 2:44 pm:

    Although it’s likely to have a shelf life of only a few years (we hope), I vote for Austin Mayor’s pledge.

    One thing I have discovered in the last three years, ever since I had to apply for unemployment for the first time: state offices and publications never let you forget for a moment who the governor is.

    It’s nice to see that graphic from a post on The Inside Dope what now seems like decades ago. I guess at least someone liked it.
