* Our Tweet of the Day award goes to the Illinois Radio Network’s Dave Dahl

I’m told that b/c the state is so late paying its bills, that starting Mon, the Capitol news stand will no longer be selling … newspapers.

Yikes.

* Former Senate appropriations director Elgie Sims is running for Cook County Board against that goofy Bill Beavers. The Sims campaign has a Twitter and FaceBook page.

* Sen. Dan Rutherford posts the most useless political Tweet of the day…

taking a break at Jimmy John’s for lunch…. Turkey Tom # 4, extra alfalfa sprouts!

* The Illinois Chamber appears to be squirming after it was jokingly paired with President Obama. From September 29th

“People elected Obama to be president - not the head of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.” Our first Comedy Central hit: http://bit.ly/VIDeV

Turns out, being a Comedy Central “hit” is not so pleasant

* This meme of Obama being “beholden to the Illinois Chamber of Commerce” continues, today via The Atlantic. Thanks, Pres! http://bit.ly/WfzkK

* Today: First time anyone’s confused the two jobs. RT @johnechols: Barack Obama, new President of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, debut is Friday.

* And: ABC’s Jake Tapper continues the Obama / Illinois Chamber of Commerce echo. We ARE with the Pres on this! http://bit.ly/1qCcbj

Heh.

* Scott Cisek gets the Most Ironic Tweet of the Day award…

cannot find street parking in the loop. Toni Preckwinkle is down here discussing high speed rail.

* Most Intriguing Tweet of the Day award to Ray Hanania

Illinois Casino owners lobby Cook County commissioners directly to kill video gaming legislation passed by Quinn for $31 bill cap imprv plan

If true, that could explain some things.

* Most Intriguing FaceBook Post

Jon A. Zahm is lol that Jim Oberweis is giving political advice to 14th CD candidates

Wow.

* A Crain’s Tweet from early this morning

Chicago seen pulling away from 2016 Olympics pack http://bit.ly/qkfxzabout

And then two hours later

#GregHinz says, bah! to British bookmakers who claim Chicago’s in the lead. The 2016 Olympic race is too close to call: http://bit.ly/HW3uj

Um, OK. Which is it?

* Funniest Tweet award to Samantha Abernethy

I tend to make shallow character judgments of bands based on whether or not I like their name.

* Echo chamber…

* Joe Calomino: Cap Fax talks about turning the heat on ACORN & SEIU today http://ping.fm/EGfFS

* Amy Sue Mertens: important to understand both sides… @CapitolFax: US Supreme Co to review chicago handgun ban http://bit.ly/EP5zR

* Matt Murphy: Check out my op-ed in Capitol Fax on why I joined the gubernatorial ticket with Andy McKenna: http://tinyurl.com/ybts9oq

* Andy McKenna: Sen. Murphy is going to be a great Lt. Gov. - together we’re going to put our house in order: http://tinyurl.com/ybts9oq

* Markos Moulitsas: RT @glogothetis: RT @capitolfax: Ditka endorses Hughes for Senate:. http://bit.ly/8LLpc || Further evidence of base problems for @MarkKirk

* William Kelly: Hey everone [sic], this is my response to Rich Miller’s attacks on Capitol Fax. Feel free to weigh in… “Since Tuesday, Rich Miller’s Capitol Fax blog has been attacking me and my campaign for Illinois Comptroller without the opportunity for counterpoint.”

* William Kelly: Hey Rich, let’s have a beer summit. How ’bout tomorrow?

Sorry. I’m otherwise engaged.

You should go. We would probably get a lot of funny YouTube footage.

    Campaining on a budget 101

get Rich to comment on my canidacy.

Then I attack Rich and hope that garners me more press.

  3. - Small Town Liberal - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 2:30 pm:

At least Dan Rutherford didn’t mention goose poop like he does in every other tweet.

And was Scott Cisek tweeting while driving? Ray LaHood would be disappointed.

  4. - Concerned Observer - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 2:32 pm:

Speaking of Kelly, he had a group of campaign workers trying to collect petition signatures at Union Station this morning.

Three volunteers (that I saw) wasn’t enough for the two or three arriving trains on my side of the building. I half-hoped they would stop and ask me so I could say “Sorry, I don’t like your candidate’s tactics” and brush past.

    Alas, no.

  5. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:06 pm:

I thought Rutherford was discussing his meeting with leader Cross.

== without the opportunity for counterpoint ==

Mr. Kelly, keep scrolling down. The comment box is at the bottom.

  7. - Sen. Dan Rutherford - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:17 pm:

For Capitol Fax to blog my Tweet about eating at Jimmy John’s as the most useless political Tweet of the day, obviously doesn’t appreciate Jimmy John is a major contributor to our campaign. I like to support our sponsors!

  8. - Small Town Liberal - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:17 pm:

Rutherford just tweeted “Capitol Fax blog my Tweet eating Jimmy John’s as the most useless political Tweet obviously doesn’t appreciate Jimmy John is a major donor.”

    Ooops, too late

I knew the Illinois Chamber of Commerce was behind the Marxist Kenyan Obama. Who else could it be?

Town Hall Meeting this Saturday, Andy Williams Theater, Branson.

  11. - D.P. Gumby - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:32 pm:

Other than the tweet that Obama called who’s-it a “jackass”, has there ever been a meaningful tweet?

  12. - soccermom - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:34 pm:

I am delighted to hear that Sen. Rutherford is getting adequate roughage. Fiber is an often-overlooked component of the American diet.

I look forward to hearing the Senator’s position on fresh vs. dried fruit.

  13. - The Prophet - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 3:38 pm:

I was happy to read on Capitol Fax today what “the real reason” was why Matt Murphy joined Andy McKenna. I had been told that Matt Murphy couldn’t raise the money required to run a gubernatorial campaign so McKenna approached Murphy looking like Monty Hall from “Let’s Make A Deal”. Andy needed to woo much needed conservative voters over to his side. Matt had what Andy wanted (conservative Republican supporters) and Andy had what Matt desperately needed (money and lots of it) so “a marriage of convenience” was born.

But, of course, we know now that this simply couldn’t be true. Thank goodness that I read Capitol Fax today and found out what Matt said was “the real reason” for holding hands with Andy McKenna. Whew! What a relief.

Zahm is still around. too bad

  15. - colt 45 - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 4:51 pm:

rutherford’s haircut story in the sj-r obviously convinced him to continue his nauseating modus of throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks

    will.i.am.kelly can kiss my blog.

  17. - Bobs yer - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 7:21 pm:

Rich, can you make it a little easier to transfer to your new site? I’m really not that into computer jargon, just enough to get my job done. new site comment, first inquire “name your URL”. I have friends who are all into this, but I neither know nor care what my “URL” is. Just want to make some (occasionally innapropriate) comments.

something to translate the user-friendly nature of this site to the new one would be welcome.

tough week for you I know, hang in there.

By the way, Julie Hamos should get a job in the private sector. Probably never had one.

  18. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 8:22 pm:

    Just leave it blank

  19. - Chi Gal - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 8:25 pm:

I’m totally with Bobs yer on the new site! Plus all the bright white background kills my eyes.

  20. - Lynn S - Thursday, Oct 1, 09 @ 10:54 pm:

Dearest Rich: you know we love you to death, right? (And I won’t even tell what what percentage of your life insurance your wife is cutting me in on–let’s just say it’s going to pay for a really, really fun girl’s night out!! We may even take your mom out with us! ;-) ) But I am with Bobs yer and Chi Gal–I’m not thrilled with the blazingly white background on the new sight, and I miss the ability to scroll through and read the post, as opposed to the “teaser” we get on the new site. Haven’t tried posting over there yet, so I am hoping my ID will work over there like it does here.

And when you close this format down, will your address still be thecapitolfaxblog.com? I have noticed when I click over to new site URL changes…

I know you’re not having the best week…this has got to make you feel like a grandparent who excitedly decides to get new furniture, only to hear everyone gripe about how they liked the old furniture better.

    Have a better weekend, okay?

    Lynn

P.S. You do realize I’m joking about the insurance, right? ;-)

  21. - CircularFiringSquad - Friday, Oct 2, 09 @ 2:16 am:
