Afternoon videos: Brady, protesters

Thursday, Apr 29, 2010

* Sen. Bill Brady threw in a plug for his home-building company and a home-buyer tax credit today. He was then asked about it afterwards. Have a look

* Brady took several questions from reporters afterwards. He was asked about his refusal to release hard copies of his tax returns, WalMart, the unionization of traditionally non-union state jobs like legislative liaisons, and the so-called (by those kinda unclear on the concept) “six month budget.” Watch

…Adding… From the Tribune

Speaking to reporters after an appearance at a Sangamon County Republican luncheon, Brady was asked why he made the decision to choose Springfield for viewing his tax information instead of the much larger media center of Chicago.

“I think we’ve often criticized governors for not living in Springfield, not being in the state capital,” Brady said, referring to complaints raised about disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s avoidance of Springfield. “We picked a location–the state of Illinois’ capital.”

Brady said no reporters who viewed his tax returns said they needed more than the three hour time period he allotted. But he said those calling for him to release copies of his tax returns, as many politicians do, don’t “understand the competitive nature of my business.”

* As I told subscribers this morning, the Civic Action Network held an unusual Springfield protest yesterday. Instead of heading to the Statehouse, like everybody else does, they descended upon an office of two lobbyists for the nursing home industry. They brought mock coffins and shouted slogans, including “”Terry Sullivan, what do you say! How many seniors have to die today?” referring to one of the lobbyists.” Here’s part one

Part 2, the cops show up

Part 3, a confrontation between the protesters and the nursing home folks

By the way, I bought the interns some new video cameras. They’re still learning how to use them, but sound and video quality is improving.

”Terry Sullivan, what do you say! How many seniors have to die today?”

Hey, hey, this is what I know - only the Grim Reapers can answer that - fo’ sho’!

  2. - LDS - Thursday, Apr 29, 10 @ 2:53 pm:

Rich, what kind of cameras did you buy?

”Terry Sullivan, what do you say! How many seniors have to die today?”

“Hey, hey! This is my reply - DON’T Want No Oldsters to Hafta Die!”

“Hey, hey! This is what I say - ‘Depends on how many geezers are drivin’ today!”

“Hey, hey! I’ll tell ya what - Get yer coffin otta here, and with it - yer butt!”

“Hey, hey! Did ya here me say? - After yer dead, there’s no taxes to pay!”

“Hey, hey! Yer in Sully’s House! - After all I’ve done - what’s with yer grouse?”

“Hey, hey! Good question dude! - Us lobbyists would like a little solitude!”

LDS, I bought 2 Aiptek Action-HD GVS cams. 5x Optical Zoom, but 10x with digital zoom plus gyroscopic stabilization. Inexpensive, but solid cams.

  5. - LDS - Thursday, Apr 29, 10 @ 4:05 pm:

Thanks Rich. Seems like a good cam - especially at that price range.

  6. - wordslinger - Thursday, Apr 29, 10 @ 4:16 pm:

God bless the people looking out for the old folks in the nursing homes. So many of them, literally, don’t have any family any more and can’t assert themselves. This ain’t senior’s retiring to Florida and golf; it’s the sick and infirm who can’t take care of themselves anymore, not matter how much they want to.

And here’s to the angels of mercy taking care of my mom and the other Alzheimer’s patients.

  7. - wordslinger - Thursday, Apr 29, 10 @ 4:53 pm:

In the videos, Brady complains about “career politicians” and their “lack of leadership” in solving state government’s fiscal crisis.

He is, of course, a career politician who is now the state GOP leader. He knows that, right?

Dude, don’t hide your light under a bushel. Start with your plan on the $6 billion in unpaid bills. We’re all ears.

  8. - Plutocrat03 - Thursday, Apr 29, 10 @ 5:27 pm:

Who paid for the rent-a-protest today?

  9. - Wendall Patrick - Friday, Apr 30, 10 @ 2:49 pm:

Rich, How can I contact you by phone?
