Quinn also has a new negative ad

Wednesday, Sep 29, 2010

* Bill Brady is hit again in Gov. Pat Quinn’s latest TV ad for being a “millionaire politician who somehow didn’t pay any federal income taxes.” But the big kicker here is that Quinn claims Bill Brady’s “plan” would “throw 128,000 Illinois people out of work,” and add a billion dollars to the deficit by “giving tax breaks to the wealthy.” He’s “wrong and reckless,” the ad claims.

Rate it

The 128,000 figure comes from a report by the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability last year

If the state were to close its $4 billion to $9 billion budget deficit by cutting spending, it could cause the state’s economy to lose anywhere from 56,893 to 128,008 jobs, thereby worsening the recession and the state’s unemployment rate.

what’s that glass orb blocking one of the rich guys?
and why isn’t either one of them wearing a monacle?

Yikes! The cure is worse than the disease!

  3. - Amalia - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 7:28 pm:

I like that the ad is part of a series, including with the
    creepy music. scary ad…thus, good.

  4. - Park - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 7:32 pm:

Boy, I’ve changed my mind now. I’m defininetly supporting all Chicago Democrats again. [Psyche!]

Seriously, its nice to see nationwide dem supporters pouring money into a last minute effort for Quinn. Helps our economy; won’t effect his defeat; keeps them from doing harm with this money elsewhere.

  5. - Can't Say My Nickname - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 7:35 pm:

I give the ad a C. Tired of hearing Quinn talk about Brady and paying no federal taxes. I wonder if Quinn took all the tax breaks he was entitled to.

  6. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 7:35 pm:

Quinn’s a brawler. Brady’s been getting a free ride to now. We’re going to find out if he can take a punch.

  7. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 7:50 pm:

Why do you think this is last minute stuff. Elections are one and lost in the last 10 days. I’ve heard it from the smartest politicos in the business and have watched it happen time and time again. I still think it’s too early to go negative on big Bill.

I guess the ad is okay but it’s still no home run. Maybe a double. It’s a little convoluted. I like the music a lot, especially around Halloween because it definitely rips off the Halloween theme.

  8. - hisgirlfriday - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 8:11 pm:

I think you’re on to something with that music. I used to think that picture was kind of weak as far as scary opposition candidate pictures go, but he does almost look like he has fangs with his canine teeth here.

  9. - really - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 8:14 pm:

It’s just the same old tired lie; all Quinn is proving is you can’t trust anything he says. Brady has never paid any federal Taxes; wouldn’t the IRS be hauling Brady away by now?
Wow I guess I can find any economist I want to attack Quinn’s record on job’s oh that’s right I don’t have too, everyone knows how Quinn’s horrible budget policies have cost hundreds of thousands of jobs.

  10. - Matt - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 9:15 pm:

I like the ad, although as mentioned before the repetition on the taxes is annoying. If Quinn keeps focusing on how Brady doesn’t really have any reasonable plan, then he may gain some ground.

  11. - Chubs Mahoney - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 10:48 pm:

Solid A minus. For about 90 percent of the people who see it, it will not be repetitive - it will be outrageous. Reinforces the message that BB is out of touch and unserious when it comes to fixing the budget and creating jobs. They will overlook the so-so production value and other minor stuff that inside baseballers like us fixate on.

  12. - Old Guard - Wednesday, Sep 29, 10 @ 11:38 pm:

Bill Brady does not pay his taxes. People go to prison for not paying taxes. Does anyone who is over 13 believe this garbage? What has Quinn done?

  13. - common sense - Thursday, Sep 30, 10 @ 12:12 am:

Take it to bank Pat Quinn will win.

  14. - Ghost - Thursday, Sep 30, 10 @ 1:40 am:

ad’s wont win this for Quinn without a large buy, including donwstate. he has had some good ad’s, but they are never seen in my area.
