Morning videos: Emanuel, Braun, Chico, Coyote

Friday, Feb 4, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Rahm Emanuel’s latest TV ad has a good message, but all that footage of people in short sleeves seems way out of place right now. Rate it

Script…

RAHM: City government is not an employment agency. It is delivering a service to the residents and the taxpayers of the city. I want that mindset to be different. We’re going to deliver a service to the taxpayers. We’re going to get them the best price for what they pay for, whether that’s protecting a street, cleaning a street, or plowing a street. That means making sure everybody that works for the city government knows that they’re actually a public servant representing and helping the people that pay them.

* Carol Moseley Braun still doesn’t have enough money to put an ad on TV, so she’s posting Internet videos. Here’s her latest

* Gery Chico’s latest Internet video is entitled “Chicago businesses say NO to Rahm Tax.” Have a look

* DJ Freddie Mac and The Blue State Cowboys have a new video spoofing Rahm Emanuel. Too Big to Fail

You wanna play ball, put a check in the mail
I got Hollywood cash; I’m too big to fail

* Our last video has nothing to do with politics. Uptown Coyote

Wow.

Where’s the roadrunner? Come to think of it, that storm had all the earmarks of an ACME product gone bad….

  2. - Wensicia - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 8:15 am:

Was that a coyote I just saw? No, it was Mayor Daley running away from the city’s response to the storm and the LSD debacle.

  3. - just sayin' - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 8:25 am:

Rahm is coasting to victory and I love how it bothers some people who don’t live in Chicago and whose opinion regarding this race we couldn’t care less about here.

  4. - Rich Miller - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 8:31 am:

A bit defensive this morning, js? lol

  5. - amalia - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 8:46 am:

just when I was about to write that the Rahm video hits on something people care about, competence, I started watching the Gery video…..AWESOME. put part of that on TV.

  6. - Spliff - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 9:09 am:

Any media team that can work “The Clash” into an ad get respect from me. Ken and Terrie deserve much respect for that.

  7. - MrJM - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 9:11 am:

So Uptown Coyote and Carol Moseley Braun have the same television ad budget?

And from the video evidence above, UC’s run has been far more impressive than CMB’s.

    Uptown Coyote for Chicago!

And here I thought that was Chris Christie emerging from the NJ tunnel that he canceled.

Kind of a back-handed swipe by Emanuel at city employees, isn’t it?

Until Emanuel defines his tax plan, Chico is wise to do it for him. Saw a pretty good Chico crime spot yesterday, too.

I had a coyote in my Oak Park neighborhood a couple of days last winter. Poor thing was half crazy from hunger and cold and nipped at a couple of kids walking to school. The coppers were chasing it, but I never found out how it played out.

quite the healthy looking beast…the one I saw last week in my yard was similar in size…I used to think rats were the ultimate survivors, but these coyotes are gaining on them fast…

  11. - MKA1985 - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 10:24 am:

Rahm’s ad is interesting in that the script seems much better than the way its presented visually. He’s clearly not as good at delivering a message as his former employer. But still, I agree its a good message.

The Chico ad? Hey, I love the Clash too. But I’m not sure it can do enough damage to Rahm as an internet video. If they could get a punk song on a TV political ad, that would be awesome.

  12. - Ghost of John Brown - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 10:43 am:

Come out to Kane County and you can see coyotes AND deer……..every day. Maybe even a bunny rabbit or two….hundred. All of their food is buried 2′ down, so they are more out in the open.

  13. - Loop Lady - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 11:34 am:

I did see a rabbit on top of a tall drift yesterday walking home from the CTA…he looked befuddled like, “where’s my food buried, man”?

  14. - Old Shepherd - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 12:03 pm:

You saw a rabbit walking home from the CTA? Do they get reduced fares, too? No wonder our state is in such a mess.

    Oh. Nevermind.

  15. - amalia - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 12:11 pm:

Rahm ad from above on Channel 9. similar theme and visuals but different ad no Clash in Chico ad on Channel 7….links Rahm tax to Stroger tax.

  16. - justbabs - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 12:52 pm:

I think Rahm’s ad covers several seasons so we don’t forget he resided here for the past year.

  17. - phocion - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 2:00 pm:

    That is one wily coyote!

  18. - Loop Lady - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 2:07 pm:

OS: I fell asleep in English Composition class a coupla times…

  20. - formerpolitico - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 2:25 pm:

Urban coyotes eat rats, and won’t bother people or dogs on leashes unless provoked. We need more of ‘em. Awesome killing machines!

  21. - chipoldem - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 3:07 pm:

I don’t think it is a great idea for Rahm to attack public employees two days after thousands of cops, firemen and other city workers risked their lives fightingan historic blizzard. Just wait for the response. The tone is all wrong considering the circumstances.

  22. - Paul Richardson - Friday, Feb 4, 11 @ 3:14 pm:

You can see my old apartment in the Uptown Coyote video. Glad I moved last summer.

  23. - Mark S. Allen - Tuesday, Feb 8, 11 @ 11:29 am:

It is incorrect to state that Carol Moseley Braun’s ads are limited to internet distribution when she has had at least three TV ads running on several CAN-TV stations. Her message is still reaching hundreds of thousands of voters without having to pay millions of dollars on the major commercial networks.
