IL GOP selling “Fire Madigan” items

Monday, Aug 27, 2012 - Posted by Rich Miller

* The Illinois Republican Party is now selling “Fire Madigan” paraphernalia. From a press release

After coverage of our FIRE MADIGAN signs at Republican Day at this year’s Illinois State Fair, we’ve had many people asking for FIRE MADIGAN materials so we’ve created this online FIRE MADIGAN store.

If you think after over 40 years in Springfield and Illinois being ranked as one of the worst states financially that it’s time to Fire Illinois House Speaker/Illinois Democratic Party Chairman/Father of the Illinois Attorney General Mike Madigan, you can have a little fun helping spread the word with any of these FIRE MADIGAN products, including t-shirts, hats, bumper stickers, buttons, and signs. Check back often as more designs and products will be added in the weeks ahead!

The Illinois Republican Party is selling these items at cost through CafePress.com to keep the costs at low as possible so that as many people as possible can help spread the word that Illinois needs to FIRE MADIGAN. There is no financial profit or loss on this merchandise by the Illinois Republican Party.

That’s no way to run a railroad.

  2. - Steve Brown - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:10 pm:

Looks like the IL GOPs are trying to hide from the report last week on the Blog that billionaire hedge find owners skirted campaign finance law to put $100,000 over the legal limit into Pat Brady’s cash drawer.
    Hmmm
Tried and failed with their Tollway billboards in 2012
Looks like another loser bid to me

  3. - OneMan - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:15 pm:

So Steve does this mean you are not getting each member of staff one to wear on April 1st?

    Whatever…
The Impeach Blago shirts were cool. Don’t see me getting one of these.

  4. - Lakeview - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:18 pm:

How about running a credible GOP candidate in his district? That seems like it might be more effective.

  5. - Springfield Dan - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:19 pm:

    Nice shirt, GREAT message.

  6. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:26 pm:

Always thought Shirley was doing a fine job as Chair of the Illinois Arts Council. Not sure why the Illinois Republicans would want to fire her.

    Oh, nevermind.

  7. - CircularFiringSquad - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:26 pm:

The GOPIes ran their “credible candidate” in the D primary

  8. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:32 pm:

What a waste of time and cotton. If that’s their goal, they are bound to lose. Why not print up a plan to get the state out of debt? They might have something to entice a voter or two.

  9. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:32 pm:

    @Steve Brown -

As far as I can tell, chairman Brady hasn’t contributed a single cent of his own money into the Illinois Republican Party.

Maybe he’ll actually buy a t-shirt, but I think it speaks volumes about how successful he personally believes this effort will be.

As far as I’m concerned, the Illinois Realtors Association, the Griffins, and everyone else contributing to Pat Brady’s efforts to increase his own name recognition are being CHUMPED in a big way.

  10. - Cook County Commoner - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:38 pm:

Hope they were smart enough to buy shirts made in the USA.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:43 pm:

    Is this a “fire” sale?

I think I would get one …I would wear it, singing a modified verson of “Call Me, Maybe.” with the CYR, then “hang” around, do nothing on Election Day, then take myself, in the shirt, to the “Victory Rally” for Speaker Cross and President Radogno.

  12. - Cheswick - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:43 pm:

As if they have no culpability in the situation.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:45 pm:

I think I am going to get the “Tom Cross Golf” shirt too…

  14. - wordslinger - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:45 pm:

–Hope they were smart enough to buy shirts made in the USA.–

Good point. I imagine we’ll find out soon enough if they weren’t.

  15. - Shore - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:46 pm:

I know Lisa Madigan is “perfect and untouchable” but it can’t sit well with this nonstop madigan trashing. The party gets a 2 for 1 on this which might be the first time they’ve gotten the positive side of one of these fights in a long long time.

  16. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:47 pm:

“Illinois House Speaker/Illinois Democratic Party Chairman/Father of the Illinois Attorney General Mike Madigan”

Whew! Didn’t know who they were talking about.

…then again… seems as thou a great deal of people STILL dunno who they are talking about.

This is going to turn out well … I can smell it.

  17. - Steve Bartin - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:51 pm:

Yes, it would be nice if Mike Madigan wasn’t Speaker anymore. I think the GOP raising the issue of Mike Madigan is good. Will it matter? Probably not. Madigan has enough people paid off with political favors. Illinois will continue its downward spiral. When unions have such oversized political power in Illinois: it’s difficult to reform. What will be interesting is: if in the future one of the major pension funds runs out of money where will they get it? Will a state or federal judge start seizing land to sell for cash for public worker pensions or will the pension funds just shut down??? I’ll bet a Republican Congress probably isn’t going to bailout Illinois public pensions. It’s just a guess.

  18. - CircularFiringSquad - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:51 pm:

Don’t the GOPies think that “Made in America” is just more of that class warfare stuff?

  19. - CircularFiringSquad - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 12:58 pm:

Here is the report from CafePress website

  20. - Ahoy! - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:05 pm:

Didn’t the R’s try something like this with billboards and in the end Madigan won and created a map that completely screwed them?

Since they have proven time and time again that they can’t beat him, I’d stop poring fuel on the fire.

  21. - Demoralized - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:13 pm:

==if in the future one of the major pension funds runs out of money where will they get it? Will a state or federal judge start seizing land to sell for cash for public worker pensions or will the pension funds just shut down???==

Comments like this really tick me off. We are NOT ANYWHERE CLOSE to this situation happening. Only the woefully ignorant would make such a statement. Try dealing with reality in making a point. It might make people take it seriously.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:15 pm:

===…any of these FIRE MADIGAN products, including t-shirts, hats, bumper stickers, buttons, and signs.===

    Wait, no coffee mugs?

  23. - Cincinnatus - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:28 pm:

I want the entire Fire Madigan sportswear collection, although, would there also be flip-flops?

  24. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:33 pm:

“Illinois House Speaker/Illinois Democratic Party Chairman/Father of the Illinois Attorney General Mike Madigan”

I know this is a lil “outside the box”, but if we give Madigan even ONE more thing to be held accountable for, maybe MJM will just give up?

  25. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:33 pm:

–There is no financial profit or loss on this merchandise by the Illinois Republican Party.–

    Commies.

  26. - Anonymous - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 1:50 pm:

Let’s get more creative: “Fire Madigan Apples.” (They’d be a beautiful color of red?)

  27. - reformer - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 2:00 pm:

Madigan bashing isn’t new — Republicans tried it in 2010 and in 2008.

Does anyone expect it to work this year and propel Cross into the Speakership? Didn’t think so.

  28. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 2:06 pm:

Maybe MJM will wear one of the shirts on the 1st Veto Session back after the election.

    (Picture indicates ‘daydreaming sequence)

Just gavel the session to order … shirt in all its glory in plain view …maybe for giggles, Majority Leader Currie asks the chair if what the speaker has on is ‘appropriate attire’? … Speaker thanks ILGOP for saving him dry cleaning … Speaker, with the shirt still on, takes pictures with each member of the HDem caucus… asks all HGOP members to look under their desks … they find same shirt …Cross not in attendence, he is golfing … opens golf bag, looking for tees … pulls out shirt with a note pinned …”With kindest personal regards, I remain Sincerely yours, MJM”…

    (sequence ends)

It’s possible. It’s Madigan were talking about here.

  29. - MrJM - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 2:18 pm:

If the Illinois GOP takes an interest in Illinois Jobs for Illinois businesses, they might order from the good people at http://www.onehourtees.com

(Note: I have no ties to them, I just like the three shirts I’ve purchased from One Hour Tees)

    – MrJM

Will YOU be offering Coffee Mugs?

(High Pitch voiced) Coffee Mugs …AA?

  36. - Rich Miller - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:06 pm:

    ===Classic Thong===

I sold more than a few thongs with my cartoon image on them when I did the merchandise thing. It was weird.

  37. - VanillaMan - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:06 pm:

    Pitiful, embarrassing, and amateur.

    Like watching Joe Biden speak.

    Cringe-worthy.

  38. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:14 pm:

Heck yes, coffee mugs. Shot glasses, too. A buck off if one buys the pair.

  39. - Siriusly - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:23 pm:

Of course they aren’t making a profit from these. Raising money is not a priority for this organization.

  40. - Knome Sane - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:30 pm:

Why is it that those without any credible, viable solutions to the state’s problems resort to stupid gimmicks?

  41. - soccermom - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:39 pm:

Rich, I get so many compliments about those…

  42. - Steve Brown - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:43 pm:

Trib could not quite fit all my comment…so here ya go.

Looks like they are trying to hide from media reports of the money laundering by two Chicago hedge fund owners, who gave Pat Brady and the GOP $100,000 over the legal limit with last minute giving to rural county parties.

Not much different than the past 25 years.

2010 they bought billboards on the Tollway.

Not much success then. No reason to think their luck will change

  43. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 3:59 pm:

    soccermom,

    You win.

    Well Played.

  44. - soccermom - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:01 pm:

Seriously — and with all due respect to Steve Brown — this focus on Mike Madigan just demonstrates how out-of-touch the Republicans are. Most Illinois voters don’t know who the House Speaker is, and even fewer could explain how the Speaker is selected. This shirt makes sense only to those few who are already on the GOP team. Not to mention — statewide, I believe the (very popular) Attorney General has greater name recognition than her father. So they are basically selling a t-shirt that tells people to fire someone who a) is well-liked and b) won’t be up for re-election for another two years. Waste of money, waste of focus. Keep it up, guys — we appreciate it.

  45. - soccermom - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:02 pm:

Although in a couple of years, I may be looking for a Tom Cross golf shirt…

  46. - Cincinnatus - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:04 pm:

I agree with you, soccermom. Why dwell on Madigan and the past when you should be talking about the future.

  47. - walkinfool - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:04 pm:

Perhaps this whole campaign is an internal ILGOP morale booster. It will have no impact on voters in general.

  48. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:06 pm:

I would raffle off a foursome with Tom Cross. I mean, he is already out there doing it. It would be like having golf outings ALL the time.

The “Tom Cross Golf” shirt would be an Election Day staple for every single “volunteer” who put up signs at 4 am, work a precinct all day, run back the tapes …very useful.

  49. - soccermom - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:13 pm:

If I’m doing a campaign in ‘14 (oh please God, please find me a campaign), my volunteers will definitely get Tom Cross golf shirts for Election Day.

  50. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:15 pm:

    “Light Bulb”

    Golf
    Tom
    Golf

If it worked for Forrest Gump …

Can I add that to your “Boot Brady” AA?

I will offer tees, golf balls, hats, visors, golf shirts…and for the real avid fan of sloughing off election day … the big Al Czervik golf bag, with the beer tap, telephone, (to talk to the ILHRO) and radio with the “Golf Tom Golf” logo on the sides.

  51. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Aug 27, 12 @ 4:18 pm:

    soccermom,

I hope I have that up by then!

I will cut you a deal if you buy by the gross.
