So does MJM want to stick it to Daley for some reason, or does he want to make nice with Quinn for some reason?
Not sure, but I’m guessing that he’s sticking it to Daley at the insistence of Quinn and the Dem organizations that support him.
It you want to beat an incumbent, you better pack a lunch. A name, a smile and a shoeshine ain’t going to cut it.
The Rich Daley, MJM, Ed Burke dynamic has always been interesting to me.
The only thing I’m sure that the three of them ever agreed upon was screwing Neil Hartigan. And I appreciated their efforts, lol.
But it’s interesting. A lot of players came and went over the years, but those three were always rock solid in their positions.
Bill isn’t Rich, as I think he’s finding out. Rich, like it or not, had a cult of personality for a long time in the city. Once he beat Sawyer, Byrne, and Fast Eddie, the majority of voters considered him mayor for life.
You live long enough, you see everything.
Seriously — ten years ago, who would have bet that Gov. Pat Quinn would be endorsed by MJMs state Democratic Central Committee for a second term over a Bridgeport Daley?

I don’t think you have to have a history book to understand the hand Daley has been dealt.

The good government, open party reformer strikes again! It reminds of Chicago Reader post from a number of years ago about Richard M. Daley as the “civil rights mayor.” Bill Daley’s transformation is about as believable.

Well, Daley surrendered Chicago. Tough break. But when you cash out your chips, you also give up your seat at the table. And you sure as heck aint gonna get your seat back without a fight from everyone else at the table.

William started to believe all the stuff on his résumé. That, and having made big big $$$ needs to complete his life by doing what he feels is his duty.
The problem is the guy is awful when it comes to politics. Had Washington lived, he never would have gotten anyplace. Gore 2000 campaign he “managed”???
The interesting thing is its been 30 years since Madigan was at cross purposes with a Daley. MJM backed Byrne in 1983. Washington won.
What I am looking forward to is Daley and all the family’s retainers who think that just because they elected Rich 6 times that they are experts in State campaigns also. Not. They didnt have a real opponent since the 1991 race, and even that is arguable.
Will the Daley folks who served under Blago come back for one last shot at a state win? Many of them never understood Springfield!

The Daley Campaign is right on with this. There should be no slating until the tickets are packed with running mates. This slating process should go on in mid December.

hahaha. We all agree that lt. gov picks are meaningless both to the election and governing…yet we should wait to see who lands in the empty seats before endorsing?
I am sure all those Republicans are coming off the fence now that their candidates are naming names.
Maybe Daley will pick Cross? That’d would shake things up.

Daley should be giving some serious thought to serving as Rauner’s runningmate. He is going backward in the primary, spends all his time attacking Democrats anyway, and I don’t think he and Rauner really disagree on a single issue.

Not sure how a candidate with such Republican views and support can ever be seriously considered a Democratic candidate, even if they have a Daley name. Also, there is still a lot of rage about bankers and financial types.
