Quinn Campaign’s Statement on Bill Daley’s Decision

CHICAGO - The Quinn for Illinois Campaign released the following statement on Bill Daley’s decision not to run in the 2014 primary election:

“We respect Bill Daley’s decision. A divisive primary would have only helped Republicans who want to take this state backwards and undo the important progress we have made.

“When Governor Pat Quinn took the oath of office, Illinois faced a triple crisis due to decades of corruption, fiscal mismanagement and the worst recession since the Great Depression.

“Under the Governor’s leadership, Illinois is making a comeback.

“From restoring integrity to state government with strong new ethics laws to working with our auto manufacturers to create thousands of new Illinois jobs, all the while making many hard but necessary decisions to balance the budget, Governor Quinn has never stopped fighting for working families.

“We have more work to do.

“The Governor will continue fighting for taxpayers to enact a comprehensive pension reform solution that will strengthen Illinois’ economic competitiveness.

“And when the time comes for voters to make their decision on Nov. 4 next year, we are confident they will recognize the difficult and important work the Governor has accomplished on their behalf.”

Bruce Rauner Statement on Bill Daley Dropping Out of Governor’s Race

Republican candidate for governor Bruce Rauner issued the following statement in response to Democrat Bill Daley dropping out of the governor’s race:

“Pat Quinn is a master of machine politics, but that approach to governing has failed the people of Illinois. I’m the only candidate able to offer a clean break from the failed policies coming out of Springfield, and I can’t be bought by the government union bosses and special interests running the state. I can’t be intimidated, and I won’t back down until we bring back Illinois.”

Further from the Rauner campaign: “And I won’t be bothered to listen to anyone with divergent opinions or experiences in actual governing. Shut up. I am The Bruce.”

One of two things to take away from the Payton Prep Clouter Bruce Rauner react …

    1) Got to get ahead of this before the 3 I am running against take me down and start defining me at every speech, every appearance, every chance, when describing who is best to lead the GOP.

    or ..

    2) Bruce Rauner is so oblivious to his complete hypocricy as a candidate, as an outsider, as a “friend to the people”, as … and ordinary guy … that “we” do not see this Daley leaving as a bad thing, but an opportunity to tell people more about who I… am not, but want you to believe I am.

Only two choices there Payton Prep Clouter…

“Pat Quinn is a master of machine politics”

really? didn’t the Daley clan master that, and even the phrase itself was typically used with the Daley name? what???

““When Governor Pat Quinn took the oath of office, Illinois faced a triple crisis due to decades of corruption, fiscal mismanagement and the worst recession since the Great Depression.

“Under the Governor’s leadership, Illinois is making a comeback.”"

If Quinn thinks that he belongs in a padded room. Any second thoughts now Lisa?

Next up: Quinn announces another spate of jobs that are already here.

Boeing is moving their headquarters to Illinois!

Normally Wordslinger, OW would get the quote of the day, but “Formerly Known As” — that’s about as funny as I’ve seen. Kudos. No need to try to top that. Quinn would claim credit for a “C” chord in country music.

  7. - wordslinger - Monday, Sep 16, 13 @ 10:59 pm:

Apparently, no one ever told Farmer Bruce that Illinois has open primaries.

All of a sudden, a lot of teachers, firemen, cops, and other public employees that Farmer Bruce has been demonizing will have no problemo in pulling a GOP ballot next Spring.

They’ve been known to be pretty good at knocking on doors and getting out votes for candidates they support.

Farmer Bruce should ask his buddies Rahm, Rich Daley and Forrest Claypool. They know from experience.

  8. - Bad Karma - Monday, Sep 16, 13 @ 11:02 pm:

A master of machine politics? Get outa here! Quinn is a lot of things, but that he ain’t.

  9. - Formerly Known As... - Monday, Sep 16, 13 @ 11:05 pm:

    lol, thanks @woodchuck

It’s not luck. It’s the power of positive thinking on Quinn’s part. That’s the only logical explanation.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 16, 13 @ 11:07 pm:

    - FKA -,

    Well played!

This campaign is going to be about who is the best “Captain Obvious”

  11. - chubs mahoney - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 6:25 am:

PQ a master of machine politics? LOL.

  12. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 7:46 am:

    Typo.

“The Governor will continue fighting for taxpayers (unions) to enact a comprehensive pension reform solution that will strengthen Illinois’ economic competitiveness. (A Quinn re-election will be a mandate from the taxpayers to keep the income tax)

  13. - Ipad - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 7:57 am:

I didn’t realize how horrible of a Democrat the former cabinet member and White House chief of staff was until he decided to run for Governor against the incredibly qualified Pat Quinn.

  14. - Bill White - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 8:16 am:

The nomination of Bruce Rauner would also render the Republican party organization irrelevant.

Why miss Monday Night Football to attend committee meetings, knock on doors in a cold drizzle, and eat countless meals of mediocre pasta and chicken while drinking lemonade from paper cups if some rich dude can simply helicopter in and win it all?

  15. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 8:23 am:

    “until we bring back Illinois.”

Awesome! This has to mean that Rauner will deliver us an old-school economic recovery, with higher private-sector union participation and less income inequality.

  16. - Bill White - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 8:27 am:

Rauner is a typical tyrant wannabe, claiming to arrive on a white horse to save the masses from the oppressive aristocratic class (in this case the Democratic machine).

Thinking about Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar” helps us understand Rauner’s motivations and intentions.

And why Bruce Rauner would be a disastrous governor for Illinois.

  17. - OneMan - Tuesday, Sep 17, 13 @ 8:33 am:

Still will never quite get the level of anger at Bruce here but whatever…

Am I the only one (likely) who thinks there is something more to this whole Daley thing. It just seems hard to believe that a former Chief Of Staff, Cabinet Member and insider like Daley didn’t think out what it was going to take to run for governor or be governor?
