Bustos, Kaiser, Martin, Reimers and Sykuta make hall of fame

Thursday, Nov 7, 2013

* From a press release

The Samuel K. Gove Illinois Legislative Internship Hall of Fame at the University of Illinois Springfield will honor five individuals who have served as legislative interns at the state Capitol.

U.S. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Scott Kaiser, Mona Martin, Scott Reimers, and David Sykuta will be inducted during a ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion on Thursday, November 21, 2013.

Inductees are selected based on their contributions to Illinois and its citizens. The Hall of Fame is also recognition of the important role that public service internships play in developing public sector leadership. […]

The event on November 21 will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion at Fourth and Jackson Streets, followed by the induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person and may be purchased online at http://illinoisissues.uis.edu/. The deadline to register is November 18. Reservations are required. For more information on attending, call 217/206-6084.

Bustos is the only person on that list who I’m not personally familiar with. The rest are just incredibly solid people.

Congratuations to all.

Echo Rich’s sentiments - all solid folks who are outstanding in every sense of the word. Great choices!

That’s a great honor. Sam Gove has been instrumental in bringing in new generations of kids into state and local politics. More programs like these need to be developed and nurtured at our schools.

Great choices all around. Scott deserves a Golden Horsehoe!!!

  8. - Tom - Thursday, Nov 7, 13 @ 5:18 pm:

Congrats to all but especially Mona. She’s the best. Myself, Shaw and Debbie would be lost without her.

I worked with Cheri at the QC Times, back in the day when they printed morning and afternoon editions (yes, I am old. Beats the alternative).

We shared a desk. I was the morning copper reporter, she was the night copper reporter.

She is the real deal. Authentic. Honest. Happy. A great friend. I’m lucky to know her, and I am so proud of her, always.

  10. - Anonymous - Thursday, Nov 7, 13 @ 7:00 pm:

Scott Reimers-Congratulations to one of the classiest guys I ever met in state government or anywhere. Kevin Joyce

  11. - Fan of Cap Fax - Thursday, Nov 7, 13 @ 8:12 pm:

Mona is a real sweetheart and a true professional, always so considerate of others. I have a great deal of respect for Scott, as well. He’s intelligent, friendly and has a great sense of humor. I don’t know the others but I’m sure they’re cut out of the same cloth. Many, many congratulations to all for such a fine job and providing inspiration to many others whose paths they cross each day.
