Power broker William Cellini, convicted for his role in a fundraising scheme linked to imprisoned former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, has been released from federal prison.
A spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed Wednesday that Cellini was discharged from the federal prison in Terre Haute last Thursday.
He was released to a halfway house and is on home confinement until Dec. 5, said Ed Ross, an agency spokesman.

Cellini began his one-year-and-one-day sentence Jan. 22. Burke said he qualified for 47 days of good-conduct credit.

“Vrdolyak Special” - year and “The Day”.
To those who “forgot” Bill Cellini was in prison, rest assured, Bill Cellini was reminded… every day.

What, no book contract?

I bet he will end up with some obscure job with Cook County or some other politically connected agency. Washing busses at the CTA, mopping washrooms at night or something similar where no one will even recognize him in coveralls.

That would be a long commute from Home Confinement and after, from his Springfield home, but if that ruins your “shot at” Chicago and “Crook County”, I will ignore the facts I guess.

Mr. Cellini was a power broker who was broken by power. But I don’t think his financial future is all that bleak.

Look for a quiet semi-retirement here. Dabble here and there offering some advice to feed the need, but no discernible transactions. He won’t be washing buses or wearing coveralls.

It’s a shame no investigation focused on his activities in republican Sangamon county government. His state level corruption was small time in comparison.

In which party has Cellini been a dominant figure for decades? Whenever they talk about Crook County, Republicans have a memory lapse.

Best of Luck to Mr. Cellini. He served his time and deserves a quiet retirement.

Just in time so he can wet his beak some more on any upcoming infrastructure upgrades. Especially roads.

Cellini did more damage to this state than many more household names.
Still surprises me that is all they’ve ever gotten him on.

I stand corrected.

White collar, politically connected crime; sentence one year and one day at a federal country club. City kid walks down the street, gets stopped and frisked, arrested for possessing a joint or two. Off to state prison or off to a federal hard time prison for a mandatory sentence of 10 to 20 years. Great system
