Rauner again attacks three rivals

Monday, Jan 27, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Now that his three Republican opponents have essentially told him to take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut, Bruce Rauner has issued a new press release attacking all three…

Why Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard, Dan Rutherford Won’t Denounce Efforts of Pat Quinn’s Allies

- Their Records Look a Whole Lot Like His –

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford today refused to condemn planned attempts by Pat Quinn’s Democrat and labor union allies to hijack the Republican Party.

“GOP candidates for governor are refusing to stand up to Pat Quinn and his allies, and Republican primary voters deserve to know the reason. They are part of the broken system in Springfield that has been failing Illinoisans for years,” said Chip Englander, campaign manager for Bruce Rauner’s campaign. “The truth is all of them sat in Springfield for decades and voted with the Democrats to raise taxes, to create the pension crisis, for big spending budgets and for sweetheart deals with the government union bosses.”

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford supported legislation that called for hundreds of millions of dollars in new spending and pork.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford supported increasing taxes and fees by hundreds of millions of dollars.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford helped to increase the pay of legislators.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford have taken tens of thousands in political contributions from government union bosses.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford voted for pension legislation that has been cited as the primary driver behind Illinois’ record level of unfunded pension liabilities.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford are career politicians who have spent the last two decades in Springfield.

” The whole world is wrong and I’m right ”

    Desperation strategy ?

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:32 pm:

    Getting a bit unhinged?

    Can’t wait ONE day…

Rutherford never should have kept the powder dry, or threw it back with “Paranoia”, then how more juicy and more Dopey could Rauner’s Crew look with this statement.

Wednesday after 3, try to get 4 pm news to get the “paranoia” narrative out there, liberally borrow if you like, but Wednesday, the story needs to unwind that the Tim Foil Hat wearing Rauner Crew is either paranoid for no reason, it has a real good reason to fear education.

“We will all wait and see how Mr. Rauner responded to these ’so-called’ ads and see where the truth lay, the we can judge what is real, and what is fiction, and if the Billionaire Mr. Rauner needs rescuing from 3 career politicians at that point.”

Run with this, you “3″, feed the paranoia, go silent till at least Wesldnesday, then go Commander Queeg / Bruce Rauner and where is his truth.

  3. - Empty Chair - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:34 pm:

This is actually how a good campaign responds to attacks. Well researched, direct, on-point attacks that address the underlying issue, and fit with the campaign’s broader themes.

Only I am allowed to hijack the Republican party!
Sadly, Quinn should be begging the Hard D’s to ensure this hypocrite gets the nomination, he’s the republican scott lee without the job fairs.

===This is actually how a good campaign responds to attacks.===
I actually agree with you here Empty Chair. But my biggest beef with the Rauner campaign is he offers no solutions. Just trust me to be different. And since they started throwing stones, instead of being different and offering up solutions, he just throws some stones back.

  7. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:40 pm:

Geez, have you ever seen a guy complain so much about attack ads that haven’t run?

I thought Shearer was spearheading the negative spots. He worked for Schock.

Apparently, Rauner is more of a Republican than Schock, Dillard, Rutherford and Brady, combined.

He just hid it for a long time by playing sugar daddy for Daley, Emanuel and Claypool.

  8. - walker - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:41 pm:

Morning: Rauner accuses his 3 opponents of being in some sort of conspiracy with Quinn supporters buying ads –

They quickly respond: No, it ain’t so!

Afternoon: Rauner accuses them of being Quinn clones because they “refuse to condemn” the Quinn supporters, while denying his accusations.

    Such nonsense.

It looks like a waste of money, by one has an abundance to waste.

    @Empty Chair:

I thought you were being sarcastic in your praise.

This is such an obviously ridiculous mishmash of claims, all in one shot. Triggered by a blatantly manufactured issue. Who could remember what about whom?

I’m often wrong. Will try to see it your way.

  12. - Bradyforillinois2014 - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

This is a act of scariness from Rauner he knows he is going to be on the defense for a long time

  13. - Superanon - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

What is the baron’s middle name? Anyone? Please let it be really funny, he needs a new nickname 3.0.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:58 pm:

Inoculations to allegations only work is the allegations are not based in truth, Rauner Crew.

You have put yourselves in a position, twice in one day mind you, to have the validity be the issue, if the “3″ go the paranoia route, as opposed to the messengers be in question.

    If I may…

“You object once, so you can say the ads are unfounded. You guys keep after it, and suddenly it looks like a bunch of fancy campaign tricks. It’s the difference between pretend campaigning and real campaigning, soon enough you might even have the press saying these ads are going to be true!”

    Commander Queeg in the Carhartt.

01:18:43 She made a mistake. Let’s not relive it.

Empty thanks for the good laugh. I needed it since I’ve been working on my taxes.

  16. - Vortex - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:59 pm:

Oooh the Rauner crew are jittery.

  17. - econ prof - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 4:59 pm:

I think this is actually a smart move by the Rauner campaign. If they don’t come out and condemn the unions getting involved to influence the GOP primary, they look guilty. And the Rauner campaign has the resources to make these attacks effective and stick.

  18. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:13 pm:

Rauner fails to disclose which of the three swiped that quart of strawberries.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:16 pm:

    I am surprised at you. We all know who stole the strawberries;

Jack Dorgan, according to Rauner backer and Original Comnsnder Queeg, Pat Brady, right?

    Synergy?

Nothing keeps me humble and grounded quite like this crew! - Your buddy (or not), Bruce”

I wonder how painful or hilarious it is for him to read these posts now after the past few weeks.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:22 pm:

    ===Actually not a bad campaign tactic.===

The twice, unfettered, Paranoia, based on the unknown, possibly true, allegations that might destroy a “Prop Bruce Rauner” and with that, millions spent on an imploding campaign?

I don’t think I would like to be on that Crew, even if it is the Caine and not the Titanic…

  23. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:24 pm:

    Overreaction?

Rauner just escalated things and dared all three of them to come after him at once.

He’s daring them to come after him on Rahm, his ties to Democrats, his sudden conversion to the Republican party, and everything else imaginable.

He is telling his opponents, very clearly, that he is going to destroy them unless they destroy him first.

He also sends a clear message to the party itself. He does not care about lessons learned from the presidential primary, where the candidates battered each other to pieces. He does not care whether the Republican party wins in November, only that he wins in November. The new guy will buy this Republican nomination or destroy their chances in November while doing so.

    Maybe he really is scared.

  24. - Drallid - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:41 pm:

The truth is Bruce Rauner has no governmental experience, has never been elected to anything (not even dog-catcher) and has spent money to elect Liberal Democrats like Rahm!”

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford never made Rahm Emmanuel a multi-millionaire.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford never hired Stuart Levin to lobby for them.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford never engaged in “Blagojevich Style Pay-to-Play Politics”.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford never came-out for rolling back the state’s minimum of $8.25 an hour by $1.

Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard and Dan Rutherford didn’t make made hefty cash contributions to Democrats Richard M. Daley, Rahm Emanuel, Forrest Claypool and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:46 pm:

    ===Maybe he really is scared.===

What are the things you can chase, but eludes money, power, influence, and even “position”?

Integrity and honesty… about ones self, and about fooling yourself to think you have those…

But like Icarus, and hubris, and wax wings, and pride…and thinking fooling others on s big stage will be as easy as fooling yourself, and seeing those wings melt, as failed ambition falls, based on a false belief of who you want others to see you as…

Scorched Earth is better than melted wings, and a bruised ego, and possibly a tattered reputation.

    Fear. Hubris, Paranoia. Control.

All are at play here, and Rauner better stop blinking at the hot sun he is flying past.

  26. - Angry Chicagoan - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:52 pm:

It will play well in the Republican primary if one out of Brady, Rutherford or Dillard does not break out from the others. If Rauner can cast himself as the only true “conservative” he only needs 35 to 40 percent of the vote. Then comes the tricky bit — he has to hope his resources are enough to look respectable for the general.

  27. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:54 pm:

Anonymous 5:24 must be either a Rauner “insider” or a good fiction writer.

Mr. Rauner, I can tell you that while you often hear these “they’re all rotten; let’s get rid of all them,” from a certain faction, it generally does not appeal to the other who believe they can’t all be gotten rid of asap because somewhat of a strategy and therefore transition plan needs to be implemented for everything not to go into that proverbial hand basket.

    You’re welcome.

  28. - MyTwoCents - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 5:58 pm:

I wonder how much this obsession with blaming unions and Republicans colluding with them for everything will backfire on Rauner. My die hard always votes in the GOP primary teacher has the attitude of why would any teacher vote for Rauner and she’s far from alone. If I remember correctly from an article I saw the union that gave the money to Shearer has approx. 16,000 members and around 49% voted Republican in the 2010 primary. That’s a lot of voters and press releases like this only add fuel to the fire.

  29. - jj - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:02 pm:

Rauner is a lesson in irony: he runs on stopping corruption and cronyism and the public finds out that his whole life is built on corruption and cronyism. What a jerk!

  30. - railrat - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:05 pm:

so who is most paranoid the unions or the seated elected ? lets see some unions supported Walker AND Daniels, (IUOE) with BIG BIG BIG bucks now in Ill. they bail for PQ, makes one wonder what the leaders gained in Indiana? some of the GOP are a friend of labor …no not we in a debate? !!! …oh maybe how much did they donate? ….oh wait are they public or private….oh one more question did I vote for the union leaders appointments to a board ??? oh sheesh is my staff a public union? when are the next D2s public ??? sorry it ain’t Kansas any more Toto’

  31. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:11 pm:

And, as some of the others mentioned, you are going to have to come up with something more than just being the outsider (as we know you’re not) and the “reformer.” Mark Kirk ran as the great “reformer” for about a minute during his campaign, too, and people still remember that.

    Again, you’re welcome.

  32. - Samurai - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:14 pm:

Bruce Rauner clouted pension deals in Illinois and other states resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in new profits for his venture capital partners.

Bruce Rauner supported clouting his daughter into Payton Prep with a single call to buddy Arne Duncan.

Bruce Rauner helped to increase the pay of venture capital partners through questionable business deals involving fraudulent accounting practices, a paid convicted Blago felon as a $3000,000 a year consultant and nursing homes where residents died from neglect.

Bruce Rauner has given tens of thousands in political contributions to democratic candidates and in payment for pay to play pension business.

Bruce Rauner profited by millions of dollars from Illinois pension funds.

Bruce Rauner is a career political insider who has spent the last two decades clouting pension business in Springfield.

  35. - Think about It - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:23 pm:

Mr. Rauner….with all your lawsuits, it’s amazing you haven’t ended up in jail. You’re daughter may end up being right after all.

  36. - Think about It - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:25 pm:

Wait until the third quarter D2’s come out showing all the financial backing Cook County GOP chairman received for their candidates. They think they got smart with the elections prior to the filing…..when this race is over, Mr. Rauner won’t even have a business reputation left. Can you say “retirement”.

  37. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:34 pm:

    I guess the Raunerbots are getting indoctrinated;

    “Paranoia and..’What was that?’…”

“When you can admit the Emperor has no clothes, and it’s a ‘good thing’ to support”

“The calm before the ‘Scooby-Doo’ ending.”

“Taking seperate flights when you need to get away from the ‘Buddy’ and vacation together simultaneously.”

“Strawberries; more than a dessert when frozen.”

  38. - woodchuck - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:36 pm:

Among a dozen other risks, Rauner’s argument that the other three have all been in Springfield too long is really a slap in the face to the voters who sent them there. In other words, those voters are the ones that are really to blame for repeatedly sending them back (ostensibly because the voters believed they were representing their interests). The argument that they’re bad, the whole system is broken is ridiculous. With that level of logic, the House Clerks should be let go too, right? What about JCAR staff or the Auditor General? They’ve been around a long time, right? Rauner’s been around a long time too. The dirt on the nursing homes is just the ice tip. There will be a February surprise and the nursing home story was, just in my opinion, a teaser. I’m anxious to see some of the yet non-existent ads that’s causing his fasiculations.

  39. - Percival - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:39 pm:

One would only expect this level of vitriol and paranoia from a candidate who knew that the coming charges are true.

  40. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:55 pm:

=slap in the face to the voters who sent them there=

Only if you’re extremely “sensitive” and looking to find and interpret something as a vicious attack on the general public and oneself personally from people who say stupid things in the press all the time. I’d like to believe that few voters would care and would rather focus on substance.

And there will probably be a lot February surprises–and even some that pop up in March. It wouldn’t be an Illinois election if there weren’t.

  41. - Norseman - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 6:56 pm:

I think they said that Rauner perpetrated a con, not a Caine.

  42. - woodchuck - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:05 pm:

@anonymous - not disagreeing that most are not that sensitive, but it just strikes me as illogical to potentially insult voters that he’s trying to win over. Then again, if he’s not really a republican, it doesn’t really matter. I think this guy is a bigger sham than Blagojevich. Just have that pit in my gut on this one. Same feeling I had when Blagojevich won the democratic primary in 2002.

  43. - railrat - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:12 pm:

@poolguy, maybe someday you’ll be able to think outside the box vs. having tunnel vision ? for your sake I hope so but with the above comment I doubt it

  44. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:12 pm:

Well, you just keep relying on, and telling people about, what you’re feeling in your stomach. I’m still trying to decide which administration, this time ranging from highly emotional to possibly unforgivably “cranial” will help most/harm least.

  45. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:16 pm:

PoolGuy, the Railrat’s narrative style is almost Joyceian.

You just don’t appreciate stream of semi-consciousness writing.

  46. - railrat - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:25 pm:

@wordslinger; some know of Pound, Fitzgerald Stein and Ulysses and of course Hemingway thanks

  47. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:34 pm:

    - railrat -,

I am not that far on the syllabus reading list and I missed class all last week. Email me the notes from class and some relevant points from the readings and I will try to think of something pithy and ironic and relevant to Rauner.

  48. - PoolGuy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:42 pm:

honestly I think the Blago and Bruce references are starting to be more relevant day by day. and I think Blago was only a Dem because of his Chicago roots. he would have been a Repub if it suited him like it does with Rauner.

  49. - railrat - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:50 pm:

@OW U where missed last week we all noticed !!! but I covered 4 U we went to the writings of Fitzgerald ‘19 -’21 and the latest Hemingway letters published from ‘07-’25 and ‘23-’25 please try to keep up!!! we love you but you can become heavy :-)

  50. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:53 pm:

I see. So Rauner is just like Blago. And not only is Rauner NOT a Republican, but Blago might have been one.

I’m convinced! Whom should I go “fan?”

  51. - PoolGuy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 7:59 pm:

wasn’t trying to convince you of anything, just making a comment

  52. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:01 pm:

Blago had plenty of GOP friends. Big Bob K, for one. Stu Levine, Rauner’s mutual pal, comes to mind.

Where do you think all those 25K contributions to Blago to beat JBT came from? Bolsheviks?

  53. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:03 pm:

    - railrat -,

Be honest, I may be heavy, but you keep me around to keep the curve low. Thanks for noticing I was missing and fig the notes.

    To the Post,

Dillard tying all of the shortcomings under the guise they are trying to do with their response is important, but the focus needs to be more on the hypocrisy and less “D” word only.

The irony and hypocrisy probably is most toxic, besides the name Rahm, or pictures of Rahm and Bruce hugging on TV. That will be radioactive and difficult to wish away.

    Ok, back to the syllabus.

  54. - PoolGuy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:03 pm:

he also had an affinity for Nixon which is ironic now

  55. - RedRepublican - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:05 pm:

Will 2014 be the first time that a Pro-Abortion Democrat becomes the Republican nominee for Governor? It will if Bruce Rauner wins the Primary…

  56. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:08 pm:

You know, word, I was just going to say that someone needs to tie JBT into this conversation, too. As much as I personally adore and appreciate her, tossing guilt and shame at me as a voter for what happened to her campaign is not going to motivate me toward one candidate or the other.

  57. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:11 pm:

As a matter of fact, I am now more convinced than ever that I need to vote for one of the two guys “in the middle” as I defined it earlier in this thread.

  58. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:14 pm:

Anon, don’t where you’re coming from, cousin. A lot of GOP types played ball with Blago for their own reasons. A lot of Democrats, too. Plenty of guilt to go around.

  59. - PoolGuy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:17 pm:

everyone saw Blago as game on, both sides. i see the same happening with Rauner. the rest will come out of the woodwork, granted laws have changed.

  60. - railrat - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:17 pm:

@OW love your edge hope someday to hook at Bristol Tap

  61. - PoolGuy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:20 pm:

rephrase, everyone with something to gain… didn’t matter what side they were on. Cellini, Bob K, Stu Levine, Resko, Kelly, JJJ, Emil. and so on

  62. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:23 pm:

Blago tried to work with the GOP as much as it could help them, and Blago was able to reap a small window of what was left of bi-partisan workings of Thompson/Edgar/Ryan ideal of the Executive, before Rod took the state down the rabbit hole.

    Weird times… In perspective now…

  63. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 8:24 pm:

So you think that the Daley, McKenna, Mark Kirk, Emanuel, New Trier, et al. perceptions of “six degrees” are better from an R Primary campaign perspective?

It’s been interesting to see the GOP money boys across the state abandon Dillard, Rutherford and Brady for Rauner.

I think they’ve lost their minds. What minds they had to lose, anyway. Apparently, they have a lot of money to waster. Look at Dan Proft.

From Gidwitz to Roeser and all points in-between, they’re all-in for this goof.

Really? What are the money boys buying? What do they get with a laughable phony like Farmer Bruce?

Quinn’s going to have money to go negative. He will have a ground game. The Op Engineers are going negative on Rauner, already. No GOP ground game, at all.

Rauner will get smoked, no matter how much he spends. He can’t handle eight months of scrutiny.

The dizziness of the GOP money boys explains a lot as to why they’re are a joke.

Too late, I guess, for Big Jim, Edgar, and JBT to knock their heads together.

In my opinion, there’s no way such a contemptuous hater of the people like Rauner can get to 50& plus one in a general election. None.

Oberweis and Farmer Bruce at the top of the ballot, taking arrows for eight months after March? it looks like a Madigan plot.

  80. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:25 pm:

No. I refuse to believe that Gidwitz is “all in for ‘this goof.’” Two different “molds.”

  81. - Carl Nyberg - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:27 pm:

Rauner has all the major GOP donors locked-up and he gave Mayor Richard M. Daley $150K in one check and he’s going to attack the other three as being insiders connected with the Democrats?

    You go, Buddy.

  82. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:27 pm:

Same for Oberweis. I’m pretty certain he’s not very keen on the “political class,” and he says ALOT of stupid things sometimes, but he, too, is of a different “mold.”

  83. - Anonymous - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:29 pm:

Now Mr. Roeser: he’s quite “unique.”

  84. - Carl Nyberg - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:30 pm:

As long as the race was about fundraising, Rauner had a change to just dominate and bluff.

But once it shifted to other stuff…

  85. - Carl Nyberg - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:32 pm:

BTW, has anyone asked Rauner what he spent on internal opposition research?

Does Rauner regret skipping that step? or not taking it more seriously?

  86. - Nw Burb Dad - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:33 pm:

I am a IL resident and taxpayer, like most if not all of you. All I am looking for is some accountability along with some relief, our current system has shown that this is not the case. Really not interested in continuing our 67% tax increase. Do you really think this will be better under our current governor?

  87. - Carl Nyberg - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:37 pm:

Which “Conservative” principle would Rauner refuse to jettison for a small advantage in an election?

Rauner will fight for the prerogatives of the 1%.

But anything social “Conservatives” want? If Rauner won the GOP nomination he’d walk back any of that stuff starting the morning after the election.

The reason he didn’t do internal opposition research can be explained in the ditty found at the following link:

  90. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:50 pm:

    - wordslinger -,

I am with you, well said.

I am, and have continued to be, amazed at the Pied Piper farse that has been the Rauner Campaign.

The complete lack of logic and understanding of who these followers use to be, and where Baron Von Carhartt wants to go is mind boggling.

You have been a touchstone, for me at least, when I find myself looking around and seeing people I have respect for line themselves up and be counted with a campaign, that not too long ago, would have made them disappointed in the choice even being offered.

To reconcile “Bruce Rauner” to Bruce Rauner, and now with this paranoia dictating its new tact, I find myself pleased I couldn’t compromise the Reagan Rules for someone who agrees 80% of the time with the likes of Rahm Enanuel, when those tens of thousands of dollars say to that question of the Reagan Rule, “this isn’t right”.

It’s quite funny, even Reagan Democrats will know better about Rauner, and that will confuse those lemmings the most.

    Just. Amazing. Period.

Keep it up, - wordslinger -, it makes a big difference in keeping me believing that My Party can get out of this funk, if it can just wake up and see its hand in front of its face.

    You have my marker.

  91. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 10:56 pm:

    - Norseman -,

I don’t know what kind of Administration the OW/Bill Ticket can deliver, but it internally, I am glad you would be three to keep morale high, and the course true.

  92. - Norseman - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:05 pm:

    Thank you.

One of the first things I would urge you to do is to have caricatures with big heads made of each member of the Governor’s staff. You could then tell them that the only time you want to see them with big heads is when you look at these caricatures.

One of the frustrating things I saw in my 30+ years was the decent folks who turned into big egomaniacs once they joined the Governor’s staff.

  93. - BoBo - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:08 pm:

I argued with OW that when they start the union ads against Rauner-it will backfire and cement his primary nod, but at this point, what have they got to lose. I mean they barely attack him during debates. This ones over before its started.

  94. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:11 pm:

    - Norseman -,

You have the keys to the Ferrari… Before you deliver them, …Owners Manual…

  95. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:13 pm:

–I am a IL resident and taxpayer, like most if not all of you. All I am looking for is some accountability along with some relief, our current system has shown that this is not the case. Seriously, you get paid for that stuff? Check out the pay-to-play Raunerbot.

Me love you long long time.

    Not too sophisticated.

The big story is no money is behind the other three.

I’ll ask again, what do Gidwitz, Roeser, Uiehlein, Griffin, et. al, think they are getting with Rauner?

Why do they reject the Illinois GOP? And Illinois Dems, for that matter. They’ve made a boatload off of all them.

I thought Alan Keyes was the low-point for the Illinois GOP. I was wrong.

By the way, you could have gotten behind JBT for governor. Maybe you were embarrassed by your scores with Levine, Cellini, Daley and Emanuel.

  96. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:13 pm:

    - BoBo -,

When the negatives and the paranoia starts, we will all… have to recalibrate. It’s shaping up to be that type of race here on out.

  97. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:21 pm:

Willie, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” on “Movie” cable.

Ford. Wayne. Stewart. Lee Marvin. Stother Martin. Woody Strode. The John Ford crew, except for Ward Bond, but many more.

Can you dig it? I knew that you could.

  98. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:22 pm:

==I am, and have continued to be, amazed at the Pied Piper farse that has been the Rauner Campaign.==

I am disappointed, but not surprised. It seems like both parties worship at the alter of the self-funded candidate and Bruce is the ultimate example. Once Bruce showed he was willing to dump millions into his campaign and spread the cash to those willing to endorse him, it was all over.

  99. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:26 pm:

    - wordslinger -

Indeed. Appreciate the assist. Catching the last 15 minutes, a good way to spend a cold night. Thanks for the “Drop”

  100. - Percival - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:29 pm:

I think the Rauner campaign has given us just a taste of what will be unleashed if any one of the three show any signs of traction, particularly Rutherford. Remember that the top members of the Rauner crew are almost all out of state (Englander is from California, Mike Schrimpf is from Ohio and D.C., etc. ). They can move on after this election is over, and Rauner will just retire with his money. “Restraint” is a word not heard much in the last weeks of a campaign, but I don’t expect even a shred of it from these guys.

  101. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:31 pm:

    - Pot calling kettle -,

I hear ya. I used “amazed” to stay from “Surprised” word as you laid out why “Surprised” can’t be fully realized.

  102. - wordslinger - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:46 pm:

Willie, the Ford Crew is the best and Wayne was a great actor. “Searchers” “Uuiet Man” and “Hatari” are my favoite.

They lived within the system until it fell apart.

Marlon changed everything with “Streetcar,” which came from Tennesse nand Kazan

Until then, those guys were the goods.

  103. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:55 pm:

    - wordslinger - you said it all and then some.
Ford had an “eye”, and that Crew…

Brando and Streetcar, the lone “loser” to Leigh, Malden, and Hunter for Oscar, but Brando, through Williams became iconic.

    The next “level” indeed.

  104. - Norseman - Monday, Jan 27, 14 @ 11:56 pm:

Liberty Valance trivia. Jimmy Stewart was allowed to wear a hat in this movie out of retribution by Ford for Stewart’s refusal to wear a new hat in the previous western they worked on. Stewart had insisted on wearing the same hat he’s used in several westerns.

  105. - Norseman - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:00 am:

Sorry, I left out the word “NOT”. Stewart was not allowed to wear a hat.

Guess I need to go to bed.

  106. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:00 am:

    Noseman, never heard that.

    Good stuff.

  107. - hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:01 am:

This is beginning to sound a lot like Chip Englander’s last campaign:

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/05/dismissive-spin-of-the-day-124066.html

The Wisconsin GOP Senate primary has gotten a bit rougher recently, with some anxiety among some Republicans about former Rep. Mark Neumann — viewed by Democrats as their weakest possible opponent — cleaning up and the state Republican convention.

Neumann’s gotten quite a bit of out-of-state help in his bid, including from the Club for Growth and Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund. He’s also faced questions about whether he astroturfed some of his support at the convention vote — prompting this scornful response from his campaign manager, via WisPolitics:

While most campaigns have made the claims Neumann was “Astro-turfing” instead of building real grassroots support, the Neumann camp simply says others didn’t have the ground game they did, calling gripes over Neumann’s first-round victory mere spin. The first-round balloting had Neumann with 42 percent of the vote, which was double the number of closest competitor Fitzgerald.

“Is that in comparison to the ‘no turf’ campaign or ‘no roots’ campaign they waged?” asked Neumann campaign manager Chip Englander. “Haters gonna hate.”

    ================

Just can’t help thinking of that “Haters gonna hate” line every time I read Englander complaining about something another campaign does.

  108. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:03 am:

    - wordslinger - Quiet Man, oh yeah, Ford’s Oscar well deserved. In my wheelhouse there, and those films, Pure.

    - Norseman -, good stuff there. Props in those films were such security blankets; along with same Crew, Director on down. Thanks for dropping the knowledge.

  109. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:14 am:

lol As you seem to be a “glutton for punishment,” Norseman: here’s one to “counter” your tune. Enjoy its incorruptible innocence and spirit.

Love John Wahne. Jimmy Stewart. Henry Fonda.

    But HisGirlFriday is the best.

  111. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:34 am:

Cary Grant, - wordslinger - Cary Grant.

Genius. One comedically well written film.

Nicely called, and with your background, hits all your sweet spots I bet too.

  112. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:48 am:

lol Chip Englander? In the Midwest? Seriously?!!!

(Or, does that one require a minimum of 9 exclamation marks? lol)

  113. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 12:50 am:

    Hater. ;)

=They can move on after this election is over, and Rauner will just retire with his money.=

Please, Dear Lord, let “they” and those who fall for their crap move onto another state. They’ve done plenty of unwarranted damage here.

  115. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 1:15 am:

Oh and Chip: Take the Opies of the purple hair with you.

  116. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 1:16 am:

To the “safe” parks of Moscow if you’d like.

  117. - AFSCME Steward - Tuesday, Jan 28, 14 @ 8:29 am:

Ah, good, the Raunerbots are back.

“This is actually how a good campaign responds to attacks. Well researched, direct, on-point attacks that address the underlying issue, and fit with the campaign’s broader themes.”
