*** UPDATED x1 *** Just a hiccup?

Friday, Feb 7, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Dan Rutherford’s running mate Steve Kim was asked by the Daily Herald about the allegations against his boss

Kim called the Rutherford allegations a “hiccup.”

“I think our base is more energized than ever before,” Kim said.

*** UPDATE *** I told subscribers about this earlier today

This week, employees in Rutherford’s office were submitting to interviews for the internal review.

“They’re being pretty frank about it,” one source with knowledge of the interviews said. “They’re scared about it but they’re doing it.”

This doesn’t look like it’s gonna end well for anybody involved.

    It’s just a flesh wound.

“Mmmm, mmmm, MMMM! Kool-Aid is fresh today!”

I’m reminded of Kevin Bacon at the end of “Animal House” with all the mayhem from the parade.

“Ironically, when voters were asked about Steve Kim’s response, the voters asked ‘Who’s Steve Kim?’ …”

47th Ward - made my day.

I’d check on that base, Kim. Like the 3rd base we used to use playing stick ball out on the farm, I think it was a cowpie.

  6. - Henry Clay - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:35 pm:

Since you are a lawyer, would you please define “hiccup” for us in legaleeze, Steve old buddy?

  7. - John A Logan - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:36 pm:

Steve Kim, a proud graduate of the Baghdad Bob School of public relations.

  8. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:37 pm:

Given the lede starting with “As unspecified allegations from an unnamed employee dog Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford’s campaign…” kind of feels like this story’s headline could be: Rutherford running mate, just like public, still kept in dark by media despite media still writing stories on subject

  9. - Dave Victor - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:39 pm:

If by hiccup Steve Kim means the Rutherford campaign is toast, then he’s spot on.

  10. - Sunshine - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:39 pm:

Flesh wound….a nick in the aorta! Yep, nothing serious here folks.

  11. - OurMagician - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:44 pm:

The energized base gave almost $5000 to the Rutherford campaign! Meanwhile, Kirk Dillard spent all of his 4th quarter fundraising and bought a package of 4 Energizer batteries.

  12. - PoolGuy - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:44 pm:

Steve “I ain’t got time to bleed” Kim

  13. - Henry Clay - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:45 pm:

Hiccup–a condition characterized by repeated contractions (or was it contradictions?) of this kind. It is seldom fatal (unless extremely close to election time). One cure is to have someone or something almost scare you to death. Another suggested cure is to swallow lots of sugar and honey while still maintaining a smile.

  14. - Just The Way It Is One - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:47 pm:

A “hiccup,” hmmm? Well, Mr. Kim, THAT was, by FAR, THE most hilarious (and yet, sadly tragic, in some ways, too) one word Response to an incredibly loaded Question that I have heard or read ANYwhere (in my personal life, too, for that matter!) all week…thanks for the free Chuckle, Steve…!

  15. - Just Observing - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:52 pm:

Eh, what else is he supposed to say.

  16. - Pre - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:52 pm:

I’d keep playing. I don’t think the heavy stuff’s gonna come down for quite a while.

  17. - Wayne Bibliotech - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:52 pm:

    We are energized indeed.

  18. - Omay - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:53 pm:

I was thinking more like SNL’s Massive Head Wound Harry.

  19. - Anonymous - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:53 pm:

Ah yeeaah, Steve, ‘hiccup’. Most hiccups don’t include expectorating your lungs

  20. - Wally - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:54 pm:

Maybe, just maybe, he said that because he knows more than all of us here. Will be interesting to see what next week brings!

  21. - A guy... - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:55 pm:

“It was enough to make the two of us go out and get completely drunk. Today, all we can do is….hiccup”

  22. - Wensicia - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 3:59 pm:

    I get it.

A hiccup is to the Rutherford fiasco as the beat of a butterfly’s wings is to a hurricane.

  23. - How Ironic - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 4:08 pm:

In other news the Hindenburg suffered what engineers described as a ‘hiccup’.

    More like a verp.

  26. - out and about - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 4:15 pm:

the way this campaign was going to only worst thing to being talked about was not being talked about so probably was a good thing

  27. - Upon Further Review - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 4:22 pm:

I once thought Minnesotans were nutty for electing Jesse Ventura. Looking at this primary field, I wish that he was running here.

  28. - 47th Ward - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 4:23 pm:

Regarding the update: Tis but a scratch.

  29. - Big Muddy - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 4:31 pm:

  30. - Snucka - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 5:04 pm:

I guess Steve Kim will be the one turning out the lights…

  31. - Soccermom - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 5:11 pm:

No, ’tis not so deep as a well nor so wide as a church-door, but ’tis enough, ’twill serve.

  32. - Rich Miller - Friday, Feb 7, 14 @ 5:30 pm:

===just maybe, he said that because he knows more than all of us here===

He also says he’s been kept completely outta the loop.
