Question of the day

Friday, Jun 6, 2014

* The other day, we did a caption contest featuring Gov. Pat Quinn’s new government press secretary Grant Klinzman, who replaced Brooke Anderson on staff. Anderson has moved over to the campaign.

Here’s a recent pic of Brooke with Gov. Quinn…

* The Question: Caption?

And, please, keep it clean. Thanks.

“Governor, says here in her application that Brooke has you listed as a reference for a job with our paper come January, any comment?”

“Governor, you are still our best customer, but we are out of Purple Ties…”

“Didn’t Brooke tell you? Rahm is vacationing with Mr. Rauner this week and won’t be attending today…”

  6. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:18 pm:

Brooke (whispering, ventriloquist style) “Thanks for the question, Monique. As usual, you got right to the point. My staff and I are still reviewing the bill, and I will make a decision very soon.”

Quinn: “How do you spell review? R-E-V-I-E-W. We’re reviewing that bill. We’ve looked at it quite a bit, but you’ve got to do your homework.”

  7. - Almost the Weekend - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:21 pm:

PQ: Brooke, I thought we agreed to kick the can down the road on the Governor’s Mansion Roof?

Brooke: Governor, Bruce Rauner volunteered to put his focus groups to work addressing Illinois’ problems by fixing the roof on the campaign’s dime.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:21 pm:

“Brooke should have told you. This fundraiser, for Sen. Durbin, with President Obama, is being hosted by a Rauner supporter and he asks you to leave. The President told me to tell you, ‘See you at Breakfast’, whatever that means… “

  9. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:24 pm:

“Brooke, when you get time, Schrimpf wants to know if you signed your contract to come work for Bruce? You have his numbers…”

  10. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:26 pm:

PQ: Oh geez, Brooke, is that Sheila Simon over there? You go over and distract her. I’ll slip out the back door.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:27 pm:

“Brooke told me to wait here. You remember me, don’t you? Scott Lee Cohen? From last election? Remember?”

  12. - OneMan - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:30 pm:

    Don’t mention soy, don’t mention soy…

  13. - What's in a name? - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:31 pm:

    Rich,

How come every time there is a female in the picture we need to keep the comments clean? Seems somehow discriminatory.

  14. - OneMan - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:31 pm:

As she reached discreetly for the you are rambiling button in her pocket, Quinn discovered that the watch she gave him that “was just like Bruce’s” did have one more additional feature…

  15. - wordslinger - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:32 pm:

OMG — how did Squeezy get in here!

  16. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:33 pm:

    ===Seems somehow discriminatory. ===

    LOL

Comments are always, always, always supposed to be clean. Sometimes, however, some folks choose not to be, especially when females are in the pics. I’m not being discriminatory, I’m being preemptory.

  17. - PublicServant - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:34 pm:

Jeez, here comes Rahm with a pen in his hand. Let’s make like a tree and leave, or make like a hockey player and get the puck outta here.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:34 pm:

“Here we are again Governor! Can I get a picture to tweet? Do you follow me on Twitter, of course you do, and Brooke, oh Brooke, you told me to wait outside and I thought, ‘I’m the Democratic Nominee for Treasurer, I will just wait right here and shake hands with another person who was State Treasurer’ right? Right. I know, I can see it in your face; he is so tall! Well, like I tell Brooke all the time, I’m standing tall for Illinois and Governor Quinn, yes sir, standing tall. You ok, you look all glazed over. Brooke told me you are a big fan and all, so no need to be star-struck, say can we get that picture now, Brooke keeps promising a picture but it seems like you all are ignoring me, so can we, get a picture? I talking too much? They say I don’t give any time for responses and talk on and on about myself, but those people fail to see I’m important now and…governor, you there? Hello?”

  19. - Judgment Day - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:35 pm:

“Oh, why did you have to ask him that….

    Here we go….”

  20. - Norseman - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:36 pm:

“If I hear ‘night and day’ one more time, I’m going to scream!”

  21. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:38 pm:

Brooke (whispered) “Governor, Sheila is talking to Vallas over there…”

  22. - wordslinger - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:38 pm:

“Brooke, I’m having a brain cramp — why was I put on earth, again?”

  23. - OneMan - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:39 pm:

There it was, that far away look she would get when the governor would begin to go on and on, be it about the Mississippi good and true or the fine people of Illinois good and true or his love of soy, or high speed rail or any of about 50 things that could get him going and going…

She would look away, knowing there was not stopping the ramble train once it left the station all she could do was think of the second week of November, a warm beach, a drink with an umbrella in it… So far away yet closer than she would dare dream…

  24. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:39 pm:

BA: “I can’t believe I’m still feeling this ill at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. No more choosing ‘Lincoln’ as my drinking game word. Next time it’ll be ‘Rauner.’ He never, ever says that guy’s name.”

  25. - Stuff happens - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:40 pm:

Quinn: . o O ( Dang, the roof just dripped onto my head again. )
Anderson: . o O ( If he does that ‘deer in the the headlights’ look again I’m leaving. )

  26. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:41 pm:

“Brooke said its two ‘T’s and one ‘N’… ‘Patt Quin’… is that banner not right?”

  27. - Mokenavince - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:42 pm:

I’m sorry I learned to tie my at Fenwick, never could get the hang of a Winsor knot.

Many people had the same reaction at the fundraiser when Sheila said…

    How about some banjo music….

  29. - The End Is Near - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 2:46 pm:

Citing the deer-in-the-headlights look on Governor Quinn’s face in this recent photograph, Moody’s again downgraded the state’s credit rating, this time to Baa1.

“Governor - can you spare $54,000,000?”

  42. - OneMan - Friday, Jun 6, 14 @ 3:03 pm:

As Vallas went off script again, she thought, see Pat, that is what it feels like, that feeling you have no control, the feeling like you are on a bad amusement park ride with a blindfold, not knowing if you are going to head up or down, fast or slow or even if the ride was set up right.

That is my world every time you step in front of a microphone, Bruce may not say much, but he has discipline Pat, something you may now start to appreciate the value of.

As the TV showed Bruce Rauner budget plan, both of them realized at the same moment that it actually worked, it didn’t require a tax increase, it didn’t jerk anyone over, it just worked. It was one of those rare moments in public policy where everyone would realize this was the right path, sure there would be some partisan posing, but when it came down to it was the answer, the answer they at that moment didn’t have a response to…
