Wearing a Bruce Rauner T-shirt and a pair of Prada shoes, U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock walked onto the State Fairgrounds putting the political divisiveness between himself and the gubernatorial candidate behind him.

Former Marine Paul Schimpf, who is seeking to unseat Attorney General Lisa Madigan, said her 12 years in office have seen two governors go to prison for corruption.
“Her record speaks for itself,” Schimpf said. “Trust a retired Marine, not the Madigan machine.”

“That house is the people’s house,” Rauner said [of the governor’s mansion]. “We should treat it with reverence; we should treat it with respect. Some of you guys who know contractors may have to help me. We have to repair the roof and pump out the basement.”
It was a reference to reports earlier this year that the mansion roof was leaking so badly it damaged rooms on the third floor and led to flooding in the basement. Mansion officials have estimated the roof is at least 40 years old.
“The current governor takes care of the governor’s residence the way he takes care of the economy,” Rauner told the fair crowd.

Sanguinetti was a no-show at a Republican unity breakfast in Springfield Thursday and seemed to tiptoe around the controversy while expressing her adoration for the State Fair during a brief speaking role at the Republican fair event
“Over the last six years, and I apologize to my kids already, this is a family tradition coming to this place,” Sanguinetti told the party faithful at the fairground rally.
Uh, why apologize? Did the kids not like it?

“I think she should apologize for those disrespectful remarks,” Quinn told reporters in Chicago. “That isn’t the right way to talk about anybody or any cow in Illinois. We’re proud of our cows. They’re the best that ever was.
“She ought to say she’s sorry to a bunch of cows,” Quinn said.
He was making a joke, but that didn’t translate well to the printed page.

“I tell ya,” Rauner continued, “Pat Quinn and his cronies, and these corrupt patronage workers, they know — they do know bull. You hear Pat Quinn generate a lot of bull when he’s talking about his failed record, failed record on jobs, on taxes, on schools.”

The Gov’s Mansion remarks are GOP hypocrisy on parade. You have any idea how much hay they’d try to make out of it if Quinn had “wasted” money having the roof replaced and the house properly fixed up instead of just patching the leaks?

Well, I guess Rauner is in a better position than most to know about the “Chicago political machine” and its “corrupt patronage workers.”
After all, he’s been a major supporter over the years, dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct campaign contributions on Daley, Emanuel and Claypool, plus more on committees that support Chicago Democrats.
That kind of “generosity” puts you in their inner circle.
As an aside, is anyone ever going to clue this dude in to the fact that “patronage” is not a dirty word among Springfield Republicans? Why does he think they’re at his rally?

I read the article and I saw the video and I have no idea why Korecki would mention Schock’s footwear. How did she know he was wearing Prada? Is she some kind of footwear expert on Prada men’s line? Did someone ask Schock? Were there large P-R-A-D-A lettering on his feet?
And if she can confirm that Schock was wearing Prada shoes, what would she prefer that he wear? Is there some kind of State Fair attire she believe is appropriate for attendees? Was she worried that Schock was wearing footwear that wouldn’t be comfortable? Was she worried that his feet might step in something that wouldn’t come off?
I’m trying to find a real reason Korecki would feel a need to make a claim that Rep. Schock was wearing Prada footwear. I’m also trying to find a reason it should be mentioned if it was a fact.
You see, right now - all I see in that statement is an attempt to make Schock look like a rich male model out of his element, and I’m trying to find a non-political and professional reason she would do something like that.

VM - How often have you heard a female politician described by what/”who” they wore? When looking good and being trendy are part of your schtick, it gets reported. Schock made his excellent taste and manscaped self a central part of his political identity, why wouldn’t she play into it?
However, since you bring it up, Schock has never had to worry about bouncing a check, arranging childcare when the babysitter gets sick, having his home foreclosed, or starting a new career after his old one evaporated. In fact, he’s never had to interview for a job other than the one he has now - he has been on the public payroll since he was 18 yrs old. When it comes to representing the people of his district, I would say that he is, in fact, completely out of his element.

Your entire diatribe against Schock depends upon Korecki correctly identifying the brand of his shoes. You do realize that, right?
What if he was wearing something from Kohls?
The fact that a reporter even feels a need to write up a congressman’s visit to the state fair like that should be suspect in other ways as well.
I don’t believe her. I don’t believe she knows what is talking about at all. Unless she actually asked the Congressman and got a response - THEN told us why that information is somehow relevant to some point she was trying to make, she needed to have her editor do his job and edit that crap out of that story.
If she did that, she would be doing her job better.

VM: My “diatribe” was directly in response to your implication that Schock was somehow IN his element whereas I hold a different view. I additionally noted that Korecki is not out of bounds in pointing out an aspect of the Congressman that he himself has sought to cultivate.
You seem defensive about something YOU see in the report. You do realize that, right?

Prada shoes are pretty obvious. Depending on the style, they may, in fact, have “PRADA” on them in bold lettering. Other styles are distinguished by their bright red color.
