Today, the Dold for Congress campaign released its first ad of the 2014 campaign, “Enough Blame”, which highlights Bob Dold’s focus on putting people before politics and ending the partisan blame game in Washington.
“Like millions of Americans across the country, 10th District voters are tired of the partisan finger pointing in Washington and are anxious to restore serious, effective, bipartisan leadership to their seat in Congress. As a small business owner and father of three with a clear record as an independent leader who puts people before politics, Bob Dold offers 10th District voters a positive alternative to the status quo and a commitment to growing the economy and improving the quality of life for families throughout the District,” Dold Campaign Manager James Slepian said.

‘It’s putting the people first, in front of the politics’
Running a small business, raising three kids, Dold knows we’ve got problems to solve.
‘More jobs are leaving, uncertainty around retirement, cost of education. We need to make sure that there’s a level playing field.’
Bob Dold’s plan: Job training for the unemployed. Improve mass transit. Make college more affordable.

I gave it a three, but that may have been too charitable.
Too much crammed into one ad.
“Bod Dold is non-partisan!”; “Bob Dold supports job training!”; “Bob Dold wants to make college more affordable!”
Too much, ends up being a mess.

I really like this ad. I think it hits on what most people think about Washington - that nobody can get anything done because they are too busy trashing the other guy. Not going to win you many votes from the die hards in the base (because to them working together is heresy), but I think everyone else will like the ad.

I gave it a 2. Everybody runs against Washington, but they whip into line once they’re in office.
And seriously, job training, making college more affordable and mass transit improvements out of the House GOP caucus? That’s a laugh riot. What’s your count on the Hastert Rule for those?

Ad? - A solid ‘3′, as to the:
“Bob Dold’s plan: Job training for the unemployed. Improve mass transit. Make college more affordable.”
Really? I’m sure they tested well, but that’s really all you got?
Try this on for size: - as an alternative:
“Bob Dold’s plan: Better Internet access for everybody along major transportation routes. Better technology program funding for Community Colleges. Improve our handling of wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water.”
There you can make a difference - and especially for small businesses.. The other things, not so much.
Now, if Bob Dold REALLY wanted to make a difference here’s what he would say:
“Bob Dold’s plan: Graphene. 3-D Printing/Additive Manufacturing. Patent Reform - Stop The Patent Trolls. In-Ground Fiber. Kickstarter.
Let’s start something GREAT”.

As a political ad it is just fine. Positive and uplifting. Identifies the problem and offers gov’t based solutions.
He looks like an up and coming candidate for the democratic party.

What Mr. Dold said is what each and every candidate for Office should be saying. I gave it a 4. BTW, I am not in District 10. I only wish those running in my District would say something similar. The party label should be left on the floor, once they get into office and they should remember that they represent EVERYONE in their Congressional district, not just the so-called base.

3. Standard pap and will attract some in the district, if they don’t realize this is his second time around.
Dold’s problem is follow-up, when his opponents point out that he didn’t act the problem-solver, non-partisan moderate, much at his first rodeo.
Certainly not consistent with the “anti-Obamacare”, and “Medicaid Theft” ads just put up on Dold’s behalf by his “Washington” allies at Crossroads and the Chamber.
When does Dold criticize those ads as “partisan finger pointing?”

Sounds phony, looks phony and is the same as any other positive ad we’ve seen for the last 25 years. Makes no matter that he’s GOP; would say the same of a similar DEM ad. So funny how much commercial advertising has changed over that period, but we get the same cookie cutter garbage from the political ad folks. All the boxes checked - family shot, diversity shot, woman shot. What a racket!

Gave it a 4. While it doesn’t blaze new trails it is spot on in tone. Dold is very poised. It checks the boxes from the Kirk playbook. Very good for the 10th CD.

It’s pretty good generally. It’s very good for that district. Lots of images, positive, upbeat. Pretty solid.
Extra question, is it just me or does this guy look a lot like Mark Kirk circa 2000AD?

It is a positive message during a very cynical election atmosphere.
Voters are tired of hearing about the other guy’s shortcomings and want to here this kind of stuff!

Dold is still known as “Tea Party Bob” in the 10th Congressional District! He can pretend he is a moderate interested in bi-partisanship, but that is a tough sell.

Dold is a moderate, but to some friends still pining for that progressive society promised them during their college years - too far right on the political scale.
They want that solar powered car, so they can drive to the mountain top to hold hands with all nations while riding unicorns. Free, of course.

i gave it a 4. it’s a feel good romp that candidates like to see, but you have to wonder if it cuts through the noise. negative ads grab your attention, and make you feel (if they are successful). i don’t know that this ad (or any positive ad, for that matter) generates any warm and fuzzies for the candidate…

Dold was part of the problem during his one term in Congress.
He flew in a planeload of tea partiers in 2010 to harass his primary opponents, and was in bed with the local tea partiers,
whom he told he was one of them.
