* The Quinn campaign sure has a lot of closing ads up right now…

* Governor Pat Quinn TV Ad - “Hoops” (in heavy rotation)

* Quinn for Illinois TV Ad - Bruce Rauner “No” (15 seconds)

* Governor Pat Quinn TV Ad - “Gloria” (Español)

* Governor Pat Quinn TV Ad - “Lots of Jobs”

They’re all over the map.

* Meanwhile, Tribune

Republican governor candidate Bruce Rauner on Saturday sought to tap into long-simmering regional rivalries as he urged Downstate supporters to “block that Chicago political machine” by voting for him over Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, who in turn looked to first lady Michelle Obama for help in the final weekend of the campaign.

Launching a three-day statewide tour in Quincy, Rauner sought to reinforce a campaign theme that Illinois has had enough of Quinn and three other Chicago Democrats: his imprisoned predecessor Rod Blagojevich, House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton.

“Those four guys are the Chicago political machine,” said Rauner, who was joined by wife Diana and running mate Evelyn Sanguinetti. “They’ve controlled our state government for decades and decades … and they’ve driven our state into the ground.”

Rauner made no mention of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a personal friend who nonetheless endorsed Quinn, though the governor has so far refused to return the favor.

* Daily Herald

Quinn stopped Saturday evening in Waukegan, more than 100 miles from where he started the day with a rally with Michelle Obama in Moline, on the far western border of the state.

Just last week, Quinn dispatched a top state school official to Waukegan Unit District 60, where a teachers strike had worn on for nearly a month, and a tentative agreement was reached that day.

“I think the governor is well-respected in Waukegan right now,” said state Sen. Terry Link, a Waukegan Democrat.

Rauner will come to north suburban Lincolnshire Monday for his final rally before Election Day. He’ll be joined by U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, suburban Republicans running for Congress and former Gov. Jim Edgar.

* Tribune

On the final weekend before Election Day, U.S. Senate candidate Jim Oberweis met with friends Saturday at a “soft opening” of a new Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy store in Bolingbrook, one of many stops on his campaign schedule. […]

Durbin, 69, appeared with first lady Michelle Obama at a get-out-the-vote rally in Moline, in western Illinois. The rally drew Gov. Pat Quinn, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos and other Democrats on the ballot Tuesday. […]

Oberweis launched his day with two stops in Wheaton: an American Legion pancake breakfast at the Cantigny Park Visitor Center and the French Market, an outdoor venue where bakery goods, fruits and vegetables, French tea towels and other trinkets are sold.

    Oberweiss opens another shop in a white neighborhood and still has no stores in predominately minority neighborhoods. But when he isn’t dodgeing taxes by having his spouse live in fl he is in touch with the rest of us…..

  2. - Under Further Review - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 1:49 pm:

    Do income statistics have anything to do with where Oberweis puts his ice cream and dairy stores? The products are premium quality and the prices are not cheap.

    I do not think racism is at play here, but economics might be. Evergreen Park is also a diverse and racially mixed shopping district and there is an Oberweis store in that area.

    Voter #1 - who is his wife, who is Bruce’s running mate?

    Voter #2 - the woman on the left is Bruce’s wife and running mate, the other woman was required by the state board of elections.

    To Quinn’s 59 closing Ads;

    A week ago, all these Dopey Ads would be fun, or get some buzz. Now it’s like, “Let’s the kids play, where should we put the governor now?”

    The only people liking more closing arguments, are the Ad buyers, and Quinn’s media buyers or the internet folks running on adrenaline, just cranking stuff out, out if habit.

    Geez. Try decaf.

    “….Waikegan, more than 100 miles from….Moline.”

    Strange way of putting it. Carbondale is also more than 100 miles from Moline. So is Singapore.

    For the record, Moline to Waukegan is 190 miles. The google is your friend.

    As for the “Hoops” spot, Quinn “inherited” the mess? Wasn’t he Blagojevich’s running mate for two election cycles? He makes it sound like he was a volunteer or an appointee who was tapped to replace Blagojevich.

    Overweis has always weaseled campaign $ towards advertising his true goal in politics - make more money

  11. - OldSmoky2 - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 3:15 pm:

    So Rauner is urging people to vote for him in order to “block that Chicago political machine?” And that would be the machine that made Rauner chairman of the agency that tries to persuade people to visit Chicago? The agency that hired Joe Berrios’ lobbying firm and Mike Madigan’s legislative aide while Rauner chaired it? Yeah, with outsiders like Rauner, I’m sure the “Chicago political machine” is quaking in its boots.

  12. - Wordslinger - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 3:18 pm:

    Does the “Chicago Machine” still have juice in some circles? It died about 38 years ago with old man Daley.

    Chicago comprises about 20 percent of the electorate.

    FWIW, neither Quinn nor Rauner closing positive during the Dallas/AZ broadcast. All negative, all the time.

    Although Rauner’s latest closer qualifies as negative, too.

  13. - Under Further Review - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 3:25 pm:

    No denying it, Oberweis always engages in product placement when he campaigns.

    Oswego- I am a card carrying Democrat AFSCME retiree My objection to shanaynay’s comment was my perceived personal hit on her. I happen to know her and her husband Ray. They are both fine people. Put the guns and knives away for at least two more days.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 6:54 pm:

    - Wally Kubon -,

    “Slip and Sue” Sanguinetti is utterly unqualified to be governor of the 5th largest state in America.

    If you think “Slip and Sue” can be governor of Illinois, with her only experience in government is voting on curbs and stop signs, then you really think putting Illinois at risk is fine if she “magically”…”gets hired” …to be governor.

    Ask “Ole Slip and Sue” about asking for a job with a Quinn Agency…

    Ask Slip and Sue about not debating Paul Vallas.

    - Wally Kubon -, it’s up to you…if we continue to talk qualifications of Slip and Sue Sanguinetti.

    If my sample ballot you gave me included her, I’ll pass.

  26. - StraightTicket - Sunday, Nov 2, 14 @ 7:22 pm:

    Michele Obama is driving downstate GOP turnout while urban blacks in Chicago stay home. Rauner has done a decent job of keeping slip-n-sue out of the voters minds. 48 hrs and the Rauner victory will be official and we can move forward to the transition and the inaugural.

  31. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 10:22 am:

    In the little TV viewing I did this weekend — Chicago broadcast TV market surrounding local newscasts — I saw far more Rauner ads than Quinn ads.

    The Rauner ad I saw most often began with a counter attack to the Quinn’s ads about Rauner going after the former female employee, then on about how Quinn “lied” because Rauner supports a woman’s right to choose.

    Rauner did not attempt to explain or defend his words & acts regarding the former female employee.

    Listening to WVON talk a week ago the host was contrasting Quinn’s race with Obama’s polling and spoke about the obstructionism Obama has faced from the GOP.

    No mention of the obstructionism Quinn faces from his own party.

  32. - Louis Howe - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 10:24 am:

    Schilling runs a decent low budget closing ad. I like his “Bob for Jobs” message, and my friends in QC believe he’s a decent guy. But the 17th District is too Democratic for a Tea Party type and Bustos ran a “good enough” campaign to win. Neither understand the economic issues, so it really doesn’t matter for working families who wins.

  33. - Toure's Latte - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 10:37 am:

    The Ms. and I have taken to muting the ads and supplying our own copy. Best Republican ad so far is the one were Boehner, Ryan and Dold are smirking about being arrested for drowning hundreds of kittens in front of an orphanage. Best Democratic ad so far is Schneider providing sexual favors below screen to a pleased Winnetka couple.

  34. - Shore - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 10:38 am:

    in chicago yesterday the ads during football were at halftime when most people had tuned out-it was a blowout-to watch wallenda. Dumb media buying.

    it was mostly quinn and brad schneider.

  35. - Skeptic - Monday, Nov 3, 14 @ 11:11 am:

    “Dumb media buying.” And if it had been a close game? They were supposed to look in their crystal ball and see the game?
