[…]

Meat Loaf? These Rauner cuts are starting to really get out of hand…..

Two out of Three Ain’t Bad…

When Rich warned us that “It’s only going to get worse,” I had no idea…

Cross off “Perform At the Illinois State Fair” as something he possibly won’t do for love.

  6. - VanillaMan - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 10:53 am:

The Fray - finally something not from the last century of geezer rock! More 21st century acts, please!

  7. - Stones - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 10:59 am:

I saw Jeff Keith from Tesla in Vegas a few years ago. Didn’t expect much from him but he was excellent live. Not a bad lineup at all.

  8. - Mama - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:00 am:

Sorry for the bad vibes VM, but IL can not afford the 21st century acts.

  9. - Get a Job - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:02 am:

I was hoping this was a post about some new fair food, meatloaf on a stick or fried meatloaf……..so I’m actually disappointed on multiple levels.

  10. - Upon Further Review - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:06 am:

Is it me or does the Illinois State Fair always seem to book the third tier musical acts? Some of these groups perform after AHL hockey games in certain cities.

  11. - Sun - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:10 am:

    His name is Robert Paulson

  12. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:11 am:

Styx and Tesla are touring with Def Leppard this year, what gives with just those the two opening acts and not their main act?

  13. - Jack Stephens - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:12 am:

    @ow:

“Groans”……that was terrible. But got it!

  14. - Wordslinger - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:25 am:

I don’t have to sleep on it and I’ll give you my answer this morning.

    Pass.

As an aside, I hope Gov. Businessman lights a fire under his fair director in signing more corporate sponsors. The Illinois effort has been quite anemic compared to some Midwestern states.

  15. - Juice - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:26 am:

Anyone else bothered that Hank Williams Jr., who has repeatedly called the President a Muslim, is playing the fair? I mean, First Amendment and everything, but even the NFL had to drop them, and they’re about as tone deaf as it comes.

  16. - Juice - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:26 am:

And is there anywhere in town that has a meat loaf horseshoe, because if not, that needs to happen right away.

  17. - jerry 101 - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:31 am:

    What? No REO Speedwagon?

  18. - crazybleedingheart - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:41 am:

It’s like decades of black people inventing entire new genres of music (including in this great state) never existed.

==It’s like decades of black people inventing entire new genres of music (including in this great state) never existed.==

When you need to make as much money as possible on these, you get who will sell the most tickets and who’s available/willing to come. Country acts and classic rock bands historically sell a lot more tickets at the State Fair than rap/r&b.

  20. - Mattman - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:50 am:

…and no grandstand acts announced yet for DuQuoin. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just as Chicagoland folks can travel south to Springfield, Southern Illinois folks can travel north to Springfield. No need for 2 fairs.

  21. - Mama - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:51 am:

IL could have its own singing competitions at the county fairs, and book the winners from each county fair for the Grandstand at the State Fair. Hey, it wouldn’t cost much.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:51 am:

    - Jack Stephens -,

    Sorry.

  23. - jerry 101 - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 11:54 am:

Mama - Illinois State Fair Idol?

Since Illinois is pretty much broke, maybe the prize can be a blue ribbon?

  24. - Finally Out (and now very glad to be) - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:06 pm:

Last I heard over the weekend, there still is no state fair director.

Already have my Hagar tickets, will be my first state fair concert in several years.

  25. - chi - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:06 pm:

    Tesla rocks.

  26. - Come on man! - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:44 pm:

I would do anything for love, yes I would do anything for love but Mr. Speaker I won’t do that. No I won’t do that…unless its for Ken Griffin- Bruce Rauner

  27. - Snopes - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:45 pm:

Will be interesting to see how much money they paid these fine stars and whether it’s possible to break even. This is the definition of “essential service” no doubt.

  28. - illini - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:49 pm:

To jerry 101 - REO and Styx did tour together last year with Ted Nugent - I would pay to see either group, so long as Ted is not a part of it!

  29. - Norseman - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 12:53 pm:

Speaking of two out of three, following is my favorite 2 of 3:

Spinal Tap Jazz Fusion and Puppet Show on the main stage.

  32. - PolPal56 - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 1:46 pm:

VM, the classics, man… “It was long ago and it was far away, and it was so much better than it is today…”

  33. - ajtg - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 3:06 pm:

At least the Biebs isn’t going to be playing at the fair.

@Juice 11;26 am: I am sure you could find stupid statements by all of the singers at the state fair. There is a difference in an artist being dropped as the paid front song for Monday Night Football and being blacklisted from playing concerts at state fairs for stupid, ignorant comments. I am sure people who are too offended by his comments won’t go to his concert.

  34. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 3:10 pm:

Sounds like Paradise by the Dashboard light to me.

  35. - Cool Bobby Jr. - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 3:19 pm:

    That 70’s Show

  36. - train111 - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 3:39 pm:

Meat Loaf is with the rest of us in Illinois with Gov Rauner — “Prayin for the end of time–so I can end my time with you”

  37. - illini - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 4:35 pm:

Forgot about Gretchen Wilson from Pocohantas - how many more have I neglected to mention.

  38. - Etown - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 6:50 pm:

It’s a shame Rich that the Fair cant seem to get any rock band that’s been relevant in the last 20 years.

  39. - Welchkin - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 8:35 pm:

I’ll be headed to see Meatloaf, can’t wait to drive down interstate 55 ” like a bat out of hell”

    -OW- @ 10:47am

    Nice line!

  41. - RNUG - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 10:08 pm:

Glad to see there are some other Meatloaf fans here.

  42. - RNUG - Wednesday, Apr 29, 15 @ 10:43 pm:

    Union members can relate:

    “It’s a never ending attack
    Everything’s a lie, and that’s a fact”
