Kicking it old school

Thursday, Dec 3, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Cal Skinner

Jeff Lichte is running for State Representative as a Republican.

McHenry County Blog has been reporting that he is a Jack Franks plant, a fake Republican, a ringer, if you will.

The man has voted in Democratic Party primaries.

Although he gathered a good number of signatures himself, every other petition passer lives outside of McHenry County–some in Chicago. […]

If no one ran in the GOP primary, the Republican Party could pick someone in a caucus, gather signatures for him or her to put the choice on the ballot.

If a ringer like Lichte were on the ballot without opposition, however, the local GOP would not be able to field a serious candidate against Franks.

Unknown to the Franks folks, Steve Reick, the Democrat’s 2014 opponent who drove his winning margin down to 58%, changed his mind and filed on the last day possible.

Nevertheless, a Lichte stalking horse campaign could be of value to Franks.

His pawn could be the source of criticism of Reick, leaving Franks’ hands relative clean.

The Google photo you see below, however, makes the connection of Lichte to Franks picture perfect.

The Franks sign is readable; the other isn’t.

It is Franks’ sign favoring passage of electing the McHenry County Board in an at-large election.

“The owner of this website (mchenrycountyblog.com) does not allow hotlinking to that resource (/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Lichte-signs-Franks-Co-Bd-Chm-at-large.png).”

Maybe yard signs do win elections.

so the lazy butt republicans didn’t put up a candidate and Franks did. Do your job republicans. You have nothing to complain about. Go Jack!

    ===republicans didn’t put up a candidate===

The GOP has a candidate there now.

In some parts, GOP organizations complain too much about “false Republicans.”

Build strong organizations and you won’t have that problem.

Look at the ILGO crew; all that money, and how many “Dem” candidates did they put up?

  10. - Team Sleep - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 9:58 am:

The consolidation vs. no consolidation movement in McHenry County is fascinating. And, of course, Jack Franks is in favor of consolidation, so he has in effect neutered any potential threat.

It always comes down to strong organizations and local workers/volunteers over time. You cannot simply spend your money and labor at campaign time.

  12. - Jeff Trigg - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 10:03 am:

“Democratic” Party ballot shenanigans making them look like unprincipled hypocrites? Nooooo.

=== Look at the ILGO crew; all that money, and how many “Dem” candidates did they put up? ===

Word is on point. It’s easy to sit in your office chair and write big checks, but the hard part requires actual work.

its not like the gop is sponsoring a dem canidate in madigans dist…..

oh wait….. this seems like a bank robber complaining that his house was robbed

  15. - The Captain - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 10:44 am:

If an actual Republican is running against a Democrat in a Republican primary then that should be an easy race to win. Yet two days in a row the GOP is complaining about these easy primary races they face where all their preferred candidate has to do is beat a phony among an electorate that consists only of Republican primary voters. This should be a cakewalk, why all the complaining?

  16. - AlabamaShake - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 10:51 am:

**JO, I just tried them again and they work for me.**

Rich - there is an extra “forward slash” in each of those links. If you remove the extra forward slash, the links work.

  18. - Century Club - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 11:12 am:

The GOP wanted to field a candidate against Franks without being bothered to collect 500 signatures, and they’re mad at Franks?

Spare me, today we’ve got real things to be outraged about.

Also, Anon wins the internet for his comment.

  19. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 11:23 am:

Busted by Google! Gotta love it. BTW, if you just put the address into google maps and go to the street level, the Franks sign is actually crystal clear. BUSTED!

If party building can’t “stop” this type of thing from happening, then my party reaps what it sows.

As a political move, Terrence Goggin approves…

If the people complaining want to do something about it, then do it. Spending time complaining ain’t doing.

  21. - Steve Reick - Thursday, Dec 3, 15 @ 11:59 am:

As Lincoln said about the man who was tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail: “If it wasn’t for the honor of the thing, I’d just as soon walk.”
As the target of all these goings on, please put me down as being flattered.
