“Gov. Rauner: CTU has too much control”
CTU has to much control over what (working conditions, teachers’ pay or benefits)?
Which part(s) does Rauner want control?
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:12 am:
This is helping Chicago. How?
- cdog - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:14 am:
Somebody push his buttons and trigger him into some crazy anti-union rant. /s
Maybe he will say that he will sell options on all the fresh water in Lake Michigan, unless his anti-union/poison pills are swallowed. /s
Let’s get him going! He is very entertaining when his mouth gets ahead of his brain. I know… blah, blah,… he is impatient and passionate. Poo. There are much better words for his problems.
- Man with a plan - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:17 am:
I’ve grown used to the dropped g’s, but he has already said “bid’ness” three times. At this rate, he’ll be whittling wood on the porch at the Mansion by April.
- burbanite - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:17 am:
The beginning of the privatization of the government of the State of Illinois.

The more often Rauner says “transparency,” the more he has to hide.
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:18 am:
What will happen to DCEO’s staff?
- GetOverIt - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:20 am:
Illinois Business Economic Development Corporation - Does not have the authority to make a decision or bind the state. Um, then why bother?!
- Anon221 - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:20 am:
Rauner asserts that the sunset (actually was a review), that ILBEDC is needed because if your recruit “superstars” they need to be assured of more than a three-year stint. Well… if he’s a one-term Illinois “CEO”, his “superstars are facing the same “sunset”.
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:21 am:
- Anonymous @ 11:18am: “The more often Rauner says “transparency,” the more he has to hide.”
This is sad bad true.
- Norseman - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:21 am:
Lets see what the GA does with his Executive Orders.
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:26 am:
==”an executive order creating a public-private partnership related to Dept of Commerce & Economic Opportunity”==
Does this mean the taxpayers will pay for this newly created private business “Illinois Business & Economic Development Corp.”, but only Rauner will have control over it?
- Anonymous - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:26 am:
Governin’ is my bid’ness, and bid’ness is terrible.
- GetOverIt - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:27 am:
He wants to “sell” what we got including unions, social services, and our educational system. Sell, sell, and sell…
And, we “have better people.” How does he think these “better people” got to be who they are? If Illinois is so bad, how can its people be “better”?
- sparky791 - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:28 am:
Shock! King Rauner wants to privatize government agencies? Like I said whatever he can do to help himself and fellow 1% is the objective.
- Former Hoosier - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:28 am:
So, what will happen if the Dept. of Commerce does not approve a recommendation made by Il. “Bid”ness & Econ. Dev. Corp? I’m thinking it would not be well received by the Gov?
Exactly how will the new corp. be held to a commitment for “transparency”?
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:29 am:
==” Rauner says he’s looked “personally” at half a dozen states’ efforts in econ development.”
Find out which states his econ plan worked.
- ash - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:29 am:
How many times did he say “transparent?” Saying it enough times does not make it true, but does raise red flags…
- East Central Illinois - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:31 am:
Rauner just said he “will be very involved” in this new corporation. Privatization within business and economic development; next is privatization of education system in the state. He is really pushing the turnaround agenda today!
- burbanite - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:31 am:
Ugh, we would have billions if we had turn around agenda years ago…..where is the data?
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:31 am:
“He also mentioned seniority rules.” He doesn’t like seniority rules because he wants to fire the people who make more money & have a pension plan.
- walker - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:33 am:
a private-sector board driving economic development (read this as cheerleading and out-of-state company recruiting)is long overdue in Rauner’s mind. He’s following Indiana’s model, which has been reasonably successful, given that state’s relative shortcomings versus Illinois.
This is one where the phrase “elections have consequences” is fair.
- Trolling Troll - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:33 am:
Rauner says recruiting people in state government “is a nightmare.” Cites bumping restrictions and salary restrictions.
So the union prevents political cronyism. Got it.
- 360 Degree TurnAround - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:35 am:
Will there be an Executive Order for rape victims? Or school children? Or seniors who need services? does anyone ask why he is helping businesses before people?
- LizPhairTax - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:37 am:
As we saw from Chapin Rose yesterday, this administration is going to feature a lot of people standing awkwardly behind this Governor while he answers questions unrelated to whatever they’re there to be announcin’
- Mama - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:38 am:
- burbanite @ 11:17 am, “The beginning of the privatization of the government of the State of Illinois.”
Burbanite, I think you are on to something here. I think schools are on his privatization list too.

“I will never give up on compromise…a win-win situation.” Really?
- JackD - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:45 am:
It’s like watching a train wreck.
- GA Watcher - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:46 am:
Comment from the DCEO Director to the person representing the State Chamber picked up by live mic as press conference breaking up: “Anything you need, you just ask.”
- Anon221 - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:49 am:
Observations-
* He said that ILBEDC will be a 501(c)-3 (not his exact wording, but I think that was his intent, and will be FIOAble. Will it be subject to the Illinois Open Meetings Act? http://www.citizenadvocacycenter.org/uploads/8/8/4/0/8840743/journalist_guide_to_the_open_meetings_act_and_first_amendment.pdf
* Snark alert- “Change is hard.” Bruce Rauner. Yes, but the Dollars seem to flow whenever and to whomever he wants them to!
* Why didn’t he and his donors do this on their own 15 years ago if he’s been so concerned about the State of Illinois all this time???
*Observation- the tension level went WAY up once the CPS questions started. DCEO Director’s smirk seemed to fade real fast, as did the head tilt.
* Claiming to not be in discussions with the bond sellers/buyers… really??? When you’re doing press conferences. Not market influence there. /s

- Anon221 - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:54 am:
This is an Executive Order. Like it or not, he will not be Governor for Life. It may not be “sunsetable”, but it can be rescinded by a future Executive.
- Henry Francis - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:58 am:
It is telling how often he used the word transparency. From the ILBEDC’s website:
TO THE EXTENT THE CORPORATION WORKS WITH [DCEO] on negotiating grant agreements or tax incentives, the Corporation be subject to transparency laws, including the Freedom of Information Act.
Guess what - everyone who negotiates with DCEO (or any public agency), those negotiations are subject to FOIA (and its exemptions). This new private ILBEDC will be as “transparent” as Sears, Motorolla, ADM and any other private company trolling for public dollars.
Sham transparency.
- Person 8 - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 11:58 am:
” new superintendent picked by the state should be from Chicago”
Sooo, the what about the education superintendent of the state? Should he be from Illinois?
- TD - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:03 pm:
Privatize, privatize, destroy unions, privatize. No oversight, lack of transparency. Are they subject to FOIA? We’ll figure iut those pesky details later. This Governor is a wrecking ball tearing down the public institutions and middle class supports of this State. Cue the political cartoon.
This Governor also has done many questionably legal actions through EO as of late.
- Up North - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:07 pm:
Wisconsin went through the privatization of Economic Development, which resulted in tax money being distributed to well connected groups with little transparency and minimal oversight… resulting in several big “Oops”.
Free Money!!!!!!
- Up North - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:15 pm:
Privatization is where this is all going. Our tax dollars are in a big pot just waiting’ for the takin’.
Education is the largest pot of all. Once that is routed through private hands, do you think there is ANY incentive to save money? Absolutely, not. Tax high, lower the costs (labor, etc.) and REAP THE PROFITS… REAP THE CAPITAL WHEN YOU FOLD BECAUSE THE PROFIT ISN’T WHAT YOU “EXPECTED” (sell the real estate, computers, furniture… it is yours in the privatization process). And notice: there is no cut for the tax payer. There is just more profit for the company.
SAD

==”an executive order creating a public-private partnership related to Dept of Commerce & Economic Opportunity”==
Does this mean the taxpayers will pay for this newly created private business “Illinois Business & Economic Development Corp.”, but only Rauner will have control over it?=
I have studied P3’s in local government in Illinois and California over the past ten years. Very few successes, many failures. To be successful, there needs to be an equal sharing of risk and benefits/rewards. However, in many alleged P3’s I reviewed, ie., Schaumburg’s Renaissance Center, almost all financial risk fell on the government, while the private partner reaped the benefits. Consequently, I have some real doubts about this. Also, I found it ironic that Rauner is introduced by a DeVry University Official, the same for profit university that is alleged to have bilked students of millions of dollars that we pay for. Go figure.
- Honeybear - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:28 pm:
FOIA but not same rules? What? Did I just see a lot of red flags go up?
- wordslinger - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:44 pm:
–“Imagin the ‘The East India Tradin’ Company’ is now marketin’ Illinois, poachin’ bidnesses all over, all over the world… ”–
Is that for real? Did he really say that?
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 3, 16 @ 12:50 pm:
- Wordslinger -
Nah, for that I apologize, but the way Rauner was describing it, I channeled a thought.
My apologies for not labeling as direct snark. I’m sorry.

“So the union prevents political cronyism. Got it.”
I’m sure the union would be happy to unrestraint salary restrictions with salary increases so you can recruit more staff.
