“Some voters respond to my integrity, others are more impressed with my incorruptibility. Still others buy my determination to lower taxes. And the bureaucrats in the state capital can put that in their pipes and smoke it!”
It seems some here think it is fine to insult average folks angry over their governor. Governors don’t need protecting, they work for those average folks. Montgomery Burns has never played an elected official because the good folks of fictional Springfield know he is incapable of doing the right thing for them in office.
The real folks of Springfield were played by Rauner and now they are angry that as governor, Rauner is allowing their state to struggle, just to get a political win.
Rauner suffers by comparison to Burns, as a result.
“All right, you ragtag bunch of misfits! You hate me, and I hate you even more. But without my beloved ringers, you’re all I’ve got. So I want you to remember some inspiring words that someone else might have told you over the course of your lives, and go out there and win!” ~ Charles Montgomery Burns
Montgomery Burns and Smithers alleged love child is pictured on the left. Burns denies the allegation though. “No offspring of mine would speak so poorly,” Burns replied in response in a question regarding Smither’s paternity suit. “However, I like what that guy has done to the poor,” Burns remarked as he left the court house.
If you can take advantage of a situation in some way, it’s your duty as an American to do it. Why should the race always be to the swift, or the jumble to the quick-witted? Should they be allowed to win merely because of the gifts God gave them? Well I say “Cheating is the gift man gives himself.”
Ironic, isn’t it, Trover? This anonymous clan of slack-jawed troglodytes almost cost me the election. And yet, if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to jail. That’s democracy for you.

He did (early on in the series) run for office…until Marge brought him down with the three-eyed fish for dinner. She made him eat it, and he spit it out. “(Burns) was dead before it hit the floor.”
