    That’s succinct.

  2. - dominionhinny - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:03 pm:

IMHO, this was the most accurate statement in yesterday’s house discussions. The governor really needs to learn to count to 30 and 60.

  3. - MSIX - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:03 pm:

    The Bruce don’t tweet.

  4. - Diogenes in DuPage - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:05 pm:

My guess: the Trib won’t pick up this quote.

  5. - Honeybear - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:06 pm:

    Indeed, indeed

Bruce Rauner: “I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done.”

  7. - Team Sleep - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:11 pm:

Jack Franks is a hard man to follow. This statement was spot-on, but man oh man does he go back-and-forth on issues and votes.

  8. - Wensicia - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:12 pm:

    But…but, he’s #Winning!

  9. - The Dude Abides - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:12 pm:

That’s probably the best advice Rauner has been given in the last year. The problem is Rauner doesn’t appear to know what’s good advice when he sees it. All he knows is that he wants Unions to go away and that’s the principal reason why we don’t have a budget.

  10. - Joe M - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:17 pm:

The GOP needs to tell him that also

  11. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:19 pm:

If the gov won’t listen to Jim Edgar, why would anyone think he would listen to a guy like Jack Franks?

  12. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:21 pm:

Do Rauner’s people have a plan B after Scalia’s death? it was more likely than not that scotus would ultimately take care of public unions for him if the ga wouldn’t when scalia was alive but what now? have rauner’s people gamed out anything here besides doing nothing?

  13. - Anon221 - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:21 pm:

Joe M- They need to tell him with their VOTES. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter, because advice (verbal or written) does not matter to Rauner. There are no consequences for him at all. No recall. No impeachment. No investigations. Nothin’, and he knows this. So, the GA has to take control, and that includes Republicans realizing that Franks advice applies to them as well.

  14. - Belle - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:26 pm:

It’s almost time for the new one. Maybe they can do a combo package?

  15. - Huh? - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:29 pm:

Good advice. Too bad 1.4% only listens to the voices in his head.

  16. - downstate commissioenr - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

Really cold somewhere-Franks said something I agree with.

  17. - Omega Man - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:35 pm:

All the House and Senate need to do to drive that message home is override the (expected) veto of SB580. AFSCME would get a contract in short order and the other unions would follow. It would end up being something that no one would be thrilled with (called a compromise) it would show the way forward from this dark place that we are at.

  18. - Jack Stephens - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:44 pm:

But I thought Bruce was givin’ us a Right to Work?

  19. - Norseman - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:52 pm:

=== The GOP needs to tell him that also ===

You would have thought. Especially when the universities started having problems. Why the GOP Solons with universities in the district have stuck with Rauner this long amazes me. Obviously, the political slush fund meant more than the needs of their district. Finally, Phillips gets it - although in a little ham-handed way. Hopefully, Righter will vote the same way in the Senate.

  20. - wordslinger - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:53 pm:

Has there ever been a count on how many GOP reps. and senators would actually vote green on the union-busting legislation?

If not, I’d say the “squeeze the beast” strategy is an objective in and of itself.

  21. - burbanite - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 3:53 pm:

Actions speak louder than words Franks. I agree it has to be driven home with votes.

  22. - 47th Ward - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:01 pm:

And he won’t have enough votes after March 15th, and likely not after November 8th either.

  23. - MSIX - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:07 pm:

The ILGA needs to take a lesson from Maine’s legislature. Maine is also “blessed” with a less-than-sensible governor. The good folks there have learned to work around him.

    From last June:

“Nearly as fast as Republican Gov. Paul LePage can sign veto letters, lawmakers are overturning them. It’s putting LePage on pace for another entry in Maine’s political record books: the most overturned governor in state history.”

    http://bangordailynews.com/2015/06/11/politics/lepage-nears-maine-record-for-overridden-vetoes/

I wish we could make that claim about The Bruce.

  24. - Norseman - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:12 pm:

Franks needs to back up his talk with action. He sat out HB 2990. If Rauner doesn’t smarten up and start negotiating, HB 2990 will put a monkey wrench in Rauner’s hostage taking. Presuming it passes the Senate, then Franks needs to vote for the override.

  25. - Well then it's done! - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:13 pm:

With insight like that, it’s no wonder that members on both sides wait for Jack Franks’ direction, and then immediately fall in line with it. Both the Gov and the Speaker will be working night and day to resolve this, now that Franks has spoken. Whew - I was really worried too.

  26. - Juice - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:14 pm:

Norseman, it should be noted that Philips did already cash the $50,000 check though. Just guess he decided it wasn’t helpful to stay bought.

  27. - Moe Berg - Friday, Mar 4, 16 @ 4:27 pm:

Wordslinger has been beating the “squeeze the beast” drum for a couple of weeks now, and it deserves to be taken seriously. Sure, busting unions would be great, but the Rauner administration would also consider wrecking government, crippling it with debt, forcing programs and institutions to shutdown (or as Leader Radono says it, “shakeout”), and keeping taxes where they are a win, too.

Horrifying to contemplate, but urging Rauner to give up union busting as unrealistic assumes that’s the only objective.
