Today’s quotables

* Tribune

Illinois Republican Chairman Tim Schneider had the honors of casting the Illinois’ delegation vote at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night, hailing an absent Gov. Bruce Rauner, and leading chants of “Woo” and “Trump.”

“I’m a proud citizen of the state of Illinois and the United States of America and we have the finest governor in our nation in Gov. Bruce Rauner,” said Schneider, a Cook County commissioner who was picked for the state GOP job by Rauner.

Rauner is absent from the convention and aides have said he is not “formally endorsing” Trump, though the governor has called himself the leader of his party and has urged support for the GOP ticket. […]

Schneider then engaged in an uncharacteristic Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers-style impression, chanting “woo, woo, woo” and then began shouting “Trump, Trump, Trump,” before his microphone was cut off.

…Adding… Raw video including the “woo woow” is here.

* From WTTW’s interview of Sen. Mark Kirk

I thought about going to the convention and the thought of spending a week in Cleveland with a bunch of Republicans shouting “Trump, Trump, Trump” – it sounded better for me to actually be in Illinois.

Hat tip: Tom Corfman.

    Yikes.

    Schneider sounded like a buffoon, as Rauner refuses to acknowledge he, Rauner, supports Trump…

    … and that Rauner has his own wife’s Social Services organization because Rauner wants Illinois’ safety net eviserated.

    That Bruce Rauner, the best governor!

    “Bruce, Woo, Bruce, Woo, Cubs, Woo, Cubs, Woo, Governor, Woo, Decimate, Woo, Eviserate, Woo, Rauner, Woo…”

    History will remember those that had the moral courage to pick country over party. So credit to Republicans like Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush who refused to back a man who won the nomination with his openly racist, xenophobic and misogynistic rhetoric.

    It would be good if we could genuinely include Kirk with those leaders but he openly backed Trump for 3 months before political expedience had him change course and repudiate that support. It’s good that he changed his mind, but why was it ever a question in the first place?

    Kirk’s really trying to thread the needle. Pounding Trump. His spot featuring Biden and Durbin, plus nice-nice about Obama and Garland.

    I understand the concept of running to the center. I just wonder how many drop-offs he has on the right in the current environment by doing so. And how many toward the center are really persuadable in an election year with Trump at the top.

    I’m sure that Kirk will be saving his ‘WOO WOO’s for when he goes to the Dem convention next week and endorses Hillary…..

    I really hope that no Republican gives this guy a job when Tammy kicks him out of the Senate.

    @Illinois Bob
    Let me know when your red-meat republican wins state-wide office.

    Hey Tim Schneider, Ronnie Wickers called. He wants his “woo woo” back.

  7. - Doug Simpson - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:28 am:

    Here’s the good news about Trump and the Republican Party. He is separating the wheat from the chaff. In other words, Donald doesnt care what bathroom Caitlyn Jenner uses. Trump is a True Conservative since government (”McCroryCare”) should not be regulating who uses what bathroom.

    Tim Schneider has not figured this out yet.

    Way to represent our state Schneider! I’m sure the few who didn’t already know why IL is a laughing stock do now.

    I was at the Goat one day last year when Ronnie came in with a sharply dressed young lady who identified herself as his “publicist.”

    She books him for parties, corporate meetings, etc.

    I found that strangely depressing, for no real good reason.

    OW - It almost sounds like the writers from “Daddy’s Home State” are testing out some potential spinoff material.

    I could not understand what they were chanting at the end…even after rewinding numerous times. I thought they were chanting “Cubs”.

    After Mr Schneider gets done “woo-wooing”, someone in the Illinois delegation should let him know who the Governor of Illinois is: https://twitter.com/MisterJayEm/status/755039947493560320

    I don’t understand why Cabello was so proud to say that he is the “only” Hispanic republican house member in Illinois. Isn’t that just highlighting the lack of diversity in the Republican Party?

    Thoroughly enjoying the last GOP as we know it convention.
