State Rep. Scott Drury of Highwood, a Democratic candidate for governor, said Illinois has been “hijacked” by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan and is no longer a “democracy.”
“The state has been hijacked by a billionaire governor, Bruce Rauner, and by an all-too powerful speaker of the House, Mike Madigan, who continuously put their self-interest against the public interest and that is going to stop once I’m the governor,” Drury said in an interview Tuesday evening on WTTW Ch-11’s “Chicago Tonight.” […]
Drury said Madigan should call for a House vote on a Senate Democrat-passed budget package that includes higher taxes and spending cuts.
But Drury wouldn’t commit to vote for it. Instead, he called it “a good start” but warned the cuts it contains are “too much of a hatchet.”
If he thinks the Senate’s cuts are “too much of a hatchet,” wait until he sees what actually has to happen to balance the budget with the Senate’s proposed revenues that the governor has apparently agreed to.

Drury’s call for a vote is a better starting point than Madigan’s human-shield COH waste of time.

IMHO Madigan needs to step aside, not because he’s wrong for Illinois but because his political tactics are old and stale. Mr. Madigan needs to step aside because his failure to connect with the technology of the day means that Bruce Rauner is winning the media day in and day out. Rauner may not win the war but he is inflicting maximum damage on the Democratic Party district by district. Contrary to what Republicans tell you, Mike Madigan is not the only Democrat standing between us and right to work for less, pretty much every one of them are. Hey Mr. Speaker, the 1980’s called and they want their political tactics back!

Drury is the “statewide” Ken Dunkin to make every light be a bad light to help Rauner push the blame to “both” when Candidate Rauner made clear the rule that use to be accepted as a given… governors own.
Rauner ran a whole winning campaign on governors own.
Drury will aid Rauner in the Primary, making sure governors own is blunted from its raw reality.
Drury voting on anything … Meh. Former federal prosecutors are taught early, never admit to anything going on or not going on. This is why Drury continues to fail

As we know Rich Rep. Scott Drury is not alone among House Democrats on arguing the $3 billion plus cuts in the Cullerton grand bargain package are too much. I also believe these Democrats also know full well what the Republican package would do. The reasonable Senate President’s deal with Sen Radogno doesn’t work for them and if that deal is to pass the House it will need a good number of Republican votes. Votes that are not there. By the way I agree with Drury the cuts in SB 6 are way too much. I don’t agree that the problem comes down to Rauner and Madigan, President Cullerton plays a role too, even though he is constantly portrayed as being reasonable.

Drury speaks his mind and votes based on his and his constituents views, even when told not to by Madigan. Very rare sadly.
