Governor Rauner, was it wise to devastate Illinois Universities in an attempt to gain leverage to pass anti-worker legislation?

  4. - Anonymous - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:06 pm:

Why does the University of Illinois need two law schools? Won’t a UIC law school devastate NIU’s law school? Why is that good policy?

  5. - Ole' Nelson - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:07 pm:

    Mr. Pritzker

Do you have a plan to restore funding to Illinois Universities so that they may compete with higher education in neighboring states?

  9. - Diogenes in DuPage - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:27 pm:

Have you ever participated in a schools active shooter lockdown drill?

  11. - Give Me A Break - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:28 pm:

Instead of placing a law school at UIC, would you favor placing the law school at UIS given the location being in the state capitol and long history of UIS alums working in state government?

  12. - charles in charge - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:36 pm:

Has Illinois’ criminal justice system truly been “transformed” during Rauner’s 4 years in office, or do the recommendations of the Commission appointed by Gov. Rauner actually need to be enacted and implemented?

  13. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:44 pm:

How important is the entire package of higher education to you, including EIU, Chicago State, WIU… all the 4-year institutions?

  14. - dbk - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:53 pm:

In your view, what is the appropriate salary level for a high school teacher in Illinois (a) at entry level, (b) after five years, (c) after ten years?

Should grade school teachers starting out in Illinois (a) be forced to work second jobs to make ends meet? (b) be compelled to purchase supplies and equipment for their classrooms? (If yes, why? If no, how would you ensure that teachers don’t have to do (a) or (b)?)

How would you directly address the teacher shortage threatening Illinois’s primary and secondary school systems?

  15. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:54 pm:

Governor, why do you hate libraries?

  16. - Jake Gittes - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 3:56 pm:

Could either of you explain why there are teacher’s unions?

  17. - Commonsense in Illinois - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:02 pm:

According to multiple studies by George Washington University, just one-third of all jobs in the US require a Bachelors Degree or higher. That means about two-thirds of all jobs in American require a two-year degree or less. Yet, more than three-fourths of high school graduates are entering four-year colleges and universities, and just over 25 percent are actually graduating with a four-year degree within six years.

What will your administration do to reorganize education at all levels so that it is more relevant to the world we live in and truly prepares men and women for meaningful careers?

  18. - blue dog dem - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

    Commonsense. Excellent.

    My question.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:22 pm:

  21. - City Zen - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:23 pm:

What is your vision for vocational training?

  22. - Anonymous - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:27 pm:

Why should Illinois have a “hold harmless” clause in the state funding formula? Please explain why a school district that loses 20 percent of its students over the next ten years should never receive less money that it receives today?

  23. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:27 pm:

Are you willing to visit all state universities to tell them your plans for their campus and the region?

If the goal is to make all state universities U of I satellites, does that diminish the U of I brand?

  24. - view from the cheap seats - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:28 pm:

How can either of these candidates get through this election without outlining specific solutions to the pension crisis facing the state? There is not enough pot sales and tax hikes to fix it.

  25. - Robert the Bruce - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:30 pm:

Due to higher property tax base, some north suburbs spend more than 3x/student than south suburbs spend. Anything the state should do about this?

  26. - Anonymous - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:31 pm:

Governor Rauner, What happens to pay levels in private business when a shortage of applicants exists? Why shouldn’t increase salary levels be utilized to combat the current teacher shortage in Illinois K-12 schools?

  27. - Ole' Nelson - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 4:32 pm:

    4:31 was me.

Any thoughts on reducing the number of school districts in the state?

  30. - Chris - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 5:58 pm:

Why are we staying with common core standards. Switch to something that makes sense.

  31. - Mama - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 6:17 pm:

I would ask JB if he supports public education ‘pre-K-college’ and would he support the need for funding Special Education for students with handicaps.

  32. - Mama - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 6:19 pm:

I would ask him would he thinks public education teachers, administrators, and staff should be paid?

  33. - Mama - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 6:22 pm:

Sorry my statement made above was messed up.
I would ask JB what he thinks public education teachers, etc should be paid.

  34. - downstate hack - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 6:36 pm:

What is your best explantion why, while the expenditure per student has risen dramitically the past twenty years, why has student performance dropped?

  37. - Chicago 20 - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 8:02 pm:

Should the State of Illinois fulfill their constitutional obligation to fund the majority of the cost of education in Illinois?

  38. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 8:05 pm:

Starting next fiscal year, are any of you willing to look at different ways to fund all education, which may include property tax relief?

  39. - Rabid - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 10:08 pm:

You called schools crumbling prisons, repealing prevailing wage and cost shift pensions is your brainchild for education reform. Do you have any nonunion ideas?

  40. - Shanna B - Monday, Sep 24, 18 @ 10:27 pm:

With Illinois have the highest African American unemployment rate being the highest in the nation, rather it is urban or rural communities, what is your plan to bring much-needed union trades based high school education back? Follow up how would you address the systematic biases associated with these trade-unions when hiring or training African Americans?

  42. - cdog - Tuesday, Sep 25, 18 @ 1:54 am:

Should professors who “teach” online, sharing YouTube videos and moderating “chat rooms,” make six figure salaries, with seven figure retirements?

Shield brick and mortar public universities have more than 50% of their class offerings be online classes?

Should freshman and sophomores be required to live on campus when their classes are mostly YouTube lectures?

  43. - Illinois Resident - Tuesday, Sep 25, 18 @ 8:12 am:

Governor, why do you think the failed war on cannabis is a good idea?

  44. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:26 am:

==what is your plan to bring much-needed union trades based high school education back?==

Not sure what you mean? Do you mean shop? Wouldn’t that be handled at the local school board level?

==how would you address the systematic biases associated with these trade-unions when hiring or training African Americans?
    ==
Although in the past there had been discrimination, right now the trades will take anyone with a pulse. They pay for the apprentice classes, not the apprentice. No shop class needed. No Governor needed.
