Pritzker attended National Governors Association “boot camp”

Monday, Nov 19, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* A Pritzker transition spokesperson says the governor-elect was in attendance

Several of the nation’s newly elected governors, including Colorado’s Jared Polis, were gathered over the weekend at The Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs at a National Governors Association meeting.

The “Seminar for New Governors” was off-limits to the press and public. […]

The weekend-long gathering was intended to be a “boot camp” to help incoming state chief executives to prepare for their new jobs.

“This is an attempt to give them a little bit more … practical exposure to some of the challenges and opportunities that past governors have dealt with as they’ve taken office,” James Nash, a spokesman for the NGA, told KRCC.

Pritzker attended Friday through Sunday, I’m told.

Our last few governors tended to avoid these sorts of seminars, so I take this as a decent sign.

    Rich +1

Continued learning is always a good thing. Unfortunately, our duck had trouble on that front and learned his most valuable lesson in governing and politics on election day.

I would be curious which incumbents/former governors spoke at this. Unfortunately he is dealing with the wildfire crisis, but many incoming Governor’s can take a lesson from Jerry Brown and hear about how he handled his third and fourth terms as Chief Executive after a 28-year gap.

It’s a good sign that he doesn’t think he knows everything and is willing to learn.

The Broadmoor is a swanky place.

I’ll take this as a great sign. Good on Pritzker avd his crew to have him go, and understand it’s good to go to learn.

    Good stuff here.

Very good on JB for doing this.

Quinn also attended almost all of them. He enjoyed the panels, etc. Befriended the Republican Govs. Did this when he was Lite Gov too with the NLGA.

Rauner is an arrogant know-it-all. Good on Pritzker to show signs that he’s willing to learn and listen.

  7. - Not It - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 9:52 am:

I’d be super curious to see the agenda and what topics were covered.

  8. - Arsenal - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 9:58 am:

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t attend these things. You get to hang out in swanky hotels with your super-powerful peers. What’s not to like?

  9. - Cubs in '16 - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:11 am:

    @Arsenal-

You just described a typical day in the life of JB Pritzker. lol

  10. - Huh? - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:22 am:

What was that line from Edgar? “Pritzker knows what he doesn’t know.”

Being willing to learn is a sign of a true leader.

  11. - Anon0091 - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:25 am:

JB knows what he doesn’t know. It will be a welcome change from the last three governors.

  12. - Been There - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:29 am:

I agree this is good. I can tell you from my limited experience with JB that he was not the affable, outgoing and personal person as he was on the campaign. I met him a few times over 30 years and he was more of a wallflower at either campaign events or even business ones. He obviously took the time to go to candidate school and learned to be more outgoing. Which I also thought was a good thing and took as someone willing to learn. Same here.

  13. - Annonin' - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:38 am:

You forget GovJunk had already been brainwashed by Koch Brothers mafia so some silly boot camp was unneeded for him to function in the part time gig he was assumin’
    Silly boy

  14. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Monday, Nov 19, 18 @ 10:47 am:

Good idea, since so far no one has written a “Governing for Dummies”.

–What was that line from Edgar? “Pritzker knows what he doesn’t know.”–
I must admit I have been impressed with JB so far, I like his transition team, and I like this attendance and participation. His predecessor was way too smart to listen to anyone, he knew what he was going to do on day one…”luckily” for Illinois he was hit head on by MJM, who kept him from many foolish moves, like destroying our unions.

The professional staff at the NGA are very good and understand the differences between the campaign trail and what is needed to govern.

Been there: A wallflower billionaire…..hmmm; trying to earnestly try, hmmm; how do I love thee J.B.?, let me count the ways. This is a guy who is not afraid to say, “I don’t know, but let’s find out”.
