I am looking forward to the guy who caught Chance The Snapper getting his own hipster fishing show.

It’s gonna be scorching hot here in the Land of Lincoln.

Hydrate, check on family and friends, neighbors and the elderly.

Be good to each other, look out for each other these next few days.

    14th Congressional District Republican Primary

With Q219 Fundraising now in the books, and Jim Oberweis and Ted Gradel far-above the primary field in terms of money, should Danny Malouf, Anthony Catella and James Marter be written off at this point? Sue Rezin did not announce her campaign until July 9, after the Q219 ended. Is it a 3-person race between Oberweis, Gradel and Rezin?

===Is it a 3-person race between Oberweis, Gradel and Rezin?===

    Rezin probably hopes so.

Will Mike Madigan invite the entire The Squad to address the Illinois General Assembly ?

John Paul Stevens died. Chicago’s finest.

  7. - The Dude - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 9:59 am:

There’s still a lot of Rauner division managers throughout state government who have no idea what they are doing.

Underwood needs to become a more visible member of the squad. Come on girl, get out there.

President Ford appointee, and like Warren Burger, someone who evolved on the highest bench, with evolving having the meaning of a jurist who was thought to “lean” or “be” something that in the end career could be seen as a different jurist than advertised.

To all that, the brilliance to law, and the constitution, Justice Stevens was a giant, not by the simple decisions, but the complex rationale others tried to make his wise decisions seem less. Those who tried, failed.

Wait, what? So the whole Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois job cuts went over really well. When the CEO makes over $165K plus bennies, her son makes over $90k, then you slash dozens of minimum wage jobs for the disabled for a $1/hr wage hike that is not coming till Jan 2020, did they think this through?

  12. - Notorious R.B.G. - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:03 am:

Rumor had it, John Paul Stevens was to attend the presentation of the award named for him, given by the Chicago Bar Association last year. I wonder if he actually made it out for that. He was an excellent justice.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:03 am:

    Are *we* already race-baiting?

Why ask a question of “The Squad” speaking to the GA?

That’s not rational or even honest to a thought other than pointing out a division existing… that you want in Illinois.

Further, if Underwood isn’t “Squad” enough for your anger, and asking her to fuel your own anger “more”… yikes, think about what that says about you.

Illinois needs more diversity of thought, not folks wanting division for the sake of justifying their own hatred and anger.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:07 am:

===Come on girl, get out there.===

    Think on that.

    Pathetic.

You don’t like her politics, you want her defeated, fine, go walk a precinct, make an argument to defeating her

The anger and blatant things typed… you don’t even realize how you’ve devolved.

    We are all better than…

“Come on girl, get out there.”

    Whew.

  15. - OneInchMoon - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:08 am:

So where is the DCEO Strategic Plan? It was due on July 1. They had a new PDPR manager, Jason Horowitz in place months ago. What’s the hold up JH? Communities and Economic Development folks are on hold till you get it done. I’m hearing a lot about bizarre personnel changes and chaos. It seems that nobody knows what the game plan is. Anybody know what’s going on over there at DCEO?

  16. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:08 am:

Stevens donated his SC chair to Northwestern Law. It’s in a case on the 2nd floor of the law school building on the Chicago campus.

Hey. It is hot, don’t rush….We stole the following from IPI Clown Car “news site” Something to celebrate about….
Schaumburg said the Illinois Lottery will celebrate Lottery Week by sharing announcements, facts, and stories on social media to highlight the positive impacts the Illinois Lottery has on communities across the state. Lottos in the U.S. and Canada are organizing the week as a way to highlight the good that lotteries have done. July 17 is the official National Lottery Day…..then we can settle in a cool place and wait for USA Network first episode of “Pearson” another set in Chicago show.
There your work is half done :)

===Underwood needs to become a more visible member of the squad. Come on girl, get out there.===

You do know, that same “squad”, via AOC’s chief-of-staff tweeted recently that the House New Democrats Caucus should be called the “New Southern Democrats” and they wanted to treat black and brown peoples like the 1940s south. Underwood’s D.C. roommate, Congresswoman Katie Hill of California, is a member of the New Democrats Caucus in the House. Doubtful Underwood sees eye-to-eye on the Squad, especially in light of those “New Southern Democrat” tweet from AOC’s chief-of-staff

  20. - A guy - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:21 am:

Cong. Underwood has a very important difference or distinction between her and “the Squad”:
The district she serves is vastly different than the Squad. It’s not a D+27 area.

  21. - WH Mess - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 10:41 am:

I nominate the following Pritzker Cabinet quote for Most Important Comma of the Year:’Put me in, Coach,’

Guthrie… is hoping to recruit Pritzker himself for a trade mission to Japan this autumn and for continual phone calls to corporate prospects.

“He’s said, ‘Put me in, Coach,’ ” Guthrie says.

The Squad needs to come to Illinois to talk about Medicare for All. To all those crying about the cost of MfA, American healthcare is the most expensive in the world, and millions are without insurance. Pretty much the entire First World figured this out a long time ago.

  23. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 11:28 am:

Rep. Underwood would be well advised not to join the Squad, as she represents a swing district she won by 5 points and would like to stay in Congress, I presume. If she represented a safe district in Chicago it would be different. The biggest threat the actual Squad members would face would be in a primary.

Click through the slide show in the link below, to see, based on Q219 cash-on-hand, who needs to worry about being primaried. Hint: AOC reported nearly $1.5 million CASH-ON-HAND

    You have names?

  26. - OneInchMoon - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 12:26 pm:

WH Mess- I read the Hinz propaganda piece. Hilarious that he quotes Denzler of the IMA.
Not the best person to ask post Rauner. But despite the glowing review. Where are the results? Where are the deliverables? The 5 year plan was due July 1.
DCEO is the now the perfect representation of BPIA™ private sector consultants, all talk, no action. Now instead of BTIA™ telling us regularly how there are companies lined up to come to Illinois, we have overcompensated private sector consultants, telling us there are companies lined up to come to Illinois.
If only Gov. Pritzker would ask them, in person and on the phone.
The truth is that you have arrogant private sector divas, and private sector know it alls failing miserably to produce results and deliver what, by statute, they are required to deliver. Not that this is a change from the Rauner era. The OIG report was rife with deficiencies that will take a decade to repair.
So Hinz can laud young Guthrie all he wants and invite praise from the IMA and other Rauner quarters.
Meanwhile, the real work of DCEO is neglected so that overpaid millennials can feel good about how they look on social media.

  27. - Wondering Wendy - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 12:48 pm:

There are a lot of Quinn division managers throughout state government who have do idea what they are doing………especially in DHS and Dept. of Children and Family Services……….

OW- Family Community Resource Centers (FCRC)
    AKA “The Aid Office”
    are cooling centers.
    All are welcome
Folks need to be super careful today. Thanks for mentioning it.

  29. - WH Mess - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 1:26 pm:

OneInch - agree it was a puff piece. I know what a hard and unglamorous slog real economic development is. I did have to laugh at the image of the Governor sitting in coach on a thirteen hour flight to Japan. Good think Hinz put the comma in.

The Illinois State Museum has a sample of Moon rocks from Apollo 11 and Apollo 17. This week marks the 50 Anniversary of Apollo 11, and really cool to learn Illinois has a small piece of this history.

    ==14th Congressional District Republican Primary==

Oberweis has to be rattled by Ted Gradel’s fundraising number. Especially since Oberweis has such an awful burn rate, and it doesn’t look like Gradel has spent much at all.

  32. - Former Quigley Supporter - Wednesday, Jul 17, 19 @ 5:45 pm:

It’s not only Congressman Dan Lipinski being primaried by a progressive opponent. Congressman Bill Foster has a primary opponent, too.

To be fair to Oberweis, he has opened a campaign headquarters in St. Charles, and is leasing a satellite office in Crystal Lake. To my knowledge, Gradel has yet to open a campaign office.

What should be more disconcerting to Oberweis would be Gradel has only put-in $30K of his own money, where Oberweis has put-in $200K, through June 30.
