Madigan creates 20-member gun violence task force

Friday, Sep 13, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Speaker Madigan letter to the House Clerk

Dear Mr. Clerk:

Pursuant to House Rule 13.5, today I am establishing the House Firearm Public Awareness Task Force, which will review the issue of gun violence and make recommendations designed to reduce violence. The number of majority and minority appointments for the task force is indicated below. These majority appointments are effective immediately.

Each caucus will be allowed to appoint ten members. It’s not as big as the property tax task force, but it ain’t small, either.

* Here are the Democrats

Representative La Shawn K. Ford, Chair
Representative Monica Bristow
Representative Sonya M. Harper
Representative Barbara Hernandez
Representative Yehiel Kalish
Representative Stephanie A. Kifowit
Representative Theresa Mah
Representative Martin J. Moylan
Representative Aaron M. Ortiz
Representative Kathleen Willis

Rep. Ford said he requested the task force be created.

* From the House Republicans…

We look forward to appointing members to this task force and working in a bipartisan manner to address this issue.

How about a 20 member task force on public pensions?

No one has been killed by an illegal pension.

The constitution is plain on pensions.

    Anything else?

  3. - Perrid - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 2:41 pm:

Steve, buddy, there is no wishing the pension deb away. It can’t happen. The only thing a taskforce could work on, that wouldn’t be a waste of everyone’s time, would be new revenue streams or cuts to pay for the debt, which is unlikely, to say the least. There’s no point to it.

I’d like to report a murder.

  5. - Donnie Elgin - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 2:43 pm:

The task force should be called “The task force to study Violence Caused by Individuals”. Guns as inanimate objects cannot be violent.

  6. - Bruce (no not him) - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 2:47 pm:

“The constitution is plain on pensions.”
    Also on guns. /s

    - Steve -

It’s Friday, start early, or take this time to register to vote…

    You’re tiring.

  8. - Amalia - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 3:12 pm:

How many people are killed on an annual basis using other inanimate objects as a weapon? and guns can go off when loaded and dropped, for example. guns should be regulated as a consumer product.

    OW

You must really concerned about preventing 20 man task forces on issues facing Illinois government.

    This just in:

    They don’t do anything.

    Kinda like your comments.

  11. - Sayitaintso - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 3:16 pm:

There is, IMHO, an inverse correlation between the size of the task force and it’s ultimate success.

Your eloquence on 20 man task forces is touching.

    - Steve -

    Good luck.

  14. - Token Conservative - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 3:43 pm:

I would have liked to have seen at least one downstate Democrat on this list to help balance the rhetoric that will make every lawful, responsible gun owner look like a psycho mass murderer.

  15. - NotMe - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 3:50 pm:

Hi Token Conservative, let me introduce you to Monica Bristow. While we don’t have many So. Illinois Dems left, last I checked she counts…and is a gun rights supporter. Maybe you were looking for a man to fill that role?

  16. - RetiredFF - Friday, Sep 13, 19 @ 3:54 pm:

I know this is a crazy idea, but how about not pushing violent criminals back onto the streets. Besides, the 2nd Amendment is blanket prohibition on ANY government telling me what guns I can or cannot own. No, it doesn’t allow for “reasonable restrictions”. Government has the same authority to regulate firearms as it does religions or this website. You address violent criminals with public hangings. Yes, I’m serious.

Apologies, I missed that one. You don’t have to make it into “Battle of the Sexes.”

    Steve let me entertain you.

Tier 1 did not get their pension funded by legislature and the courts said that is not the problem of those receiving the pensions as they must be paid what they were promised.
Tier 2 is now shafted by getting less than they put in and they are paying for Tier 1.
With those very simple facts, explain what you want to do that is brilliant OR stop spamming your inane comments about pensions on every thread.
