Question of the day

Tuesday, Oct 15, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Sun-Times

Federal agents wanted to know more about heating and air conditioning at the home of Cook County Commissioner Jeff Tobolski when they swept through the southwest suburbs late last month.

That’s according to a set of search warrant documents released Tuesday without redactions by the Village of McCook, where Tobolski doubles as mayor.

McCook previously released heavily redacted versions of the documents, which revealed the feds had targeted Tobolski’s mayoral office. The redacted documents also indicated federal interest in anything related heating and air conditioning at a residence.

However, the village’s previous redactions hid the fact that it was the mayor’s home that was in question.

* More…

Heating and air conditioning work at Tobolsky’s house and the mention of a “place of adult entertainment.”

* The Question: Your thoughts on where this is all going?

    No clue where it will go, but I have popcorn ready.

  2. - Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 3:55 pm:

    Forget it Rich, it’s McCook.

  3. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 3:57 pm:

    Seems like they are just following the trail where it leads, and once they hit Sandoval it branched in a dozen different directions. It’s like wherever they look, they are tripping over new criminal activity.

    This investigation covers a lot of people and places.

  7. - Streator Curmudgeon - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:04 pm:

    When things get hot, you want good air conditioning.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:04 pm:

    Probably with Marty sharing a basket of onion rings, listening to “Don’t Stop Believing” … then it goes to a blackout.

  9. - At The Bar - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:06 pm:

    Since you asked I’m guessing this will go through JC’s Pub. If the Feds have anything on Jeff, and they bugged that place, it’s going to be tough for the guy.

  10. - Powdered Whig - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:06 pm:

    Two things come to mind:

    Bribery and failure to report income.

    Are targeted electeds taking official action only after receiving personal benefits (i.e. cash or services)?

    Also, it is interesting that IRS agents are involved in these criminal investigations. Did elected officials conceal payments of cash or services from these vendors and therefore, fail to pay tax on them? Remember it was the IRS that took down Al Capone. Just saying.

  11. - Responsa - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:07 pm:

    It’s a real life Elmore Leonard novel. So it’s eccentric and the denouement is gonna be good.

    ===where this is all going?===
    Down the McToilet for Tobolski et.al.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:14 pm:

    Joking aside, this will lead to something we already “know”;

    The truth… these aren’t very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

    Wanna-be phonies, with corruption, engulfing the thirst to exploit power, you get air conditioning and adult entertainment, you get cigar shops and red light cameras.

    “The truth…these aren’t very bright guys, and things got out of hand” means a phony lifestyle needed cash to exist and this leads to nickel and dime petty corruptions… to overreaching power wielded so overtly, so ethically challenging, it’s gonna lead to people liked “living the life” of something they knew nothing about but what they saw in movies.

    Someone is already singing. “We went too far” is gonna be a theme.

    Rod will be able to put a band together with all his old buddies as we all know he loves Elvis

    The heating and air conditioning could also mean the ducts inside the house. Plenty of neat hiding spots there methinks

  16. - Honeybadger - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:28 pm:

    Are the roads going to lead to Berwyn and Cicero?

  17. - Steve - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:31 pm:

    - Honeybadger -

    There are many communities in Illinois with misunderstood idealists besides Berwyn and Cicero.

  18. - Jocko - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:38 pm:

    If I were a ‘cash only’ establishment in McCook…I’d be very worried right now.

  19. - Quizzical - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:39 pm:

    Maybe Tobolsky was running up outrageous heating and air conditioning bills, using maybe even grow-house levels of energy, but he didn’t care about the electric bill, because the utility company ceo allowed the bills to be waived in exchange for drinks and dances at the adult entertainment club.

    ==The heating and air conditioning could also mean the ducts inside the house. Plenty of neat hiding spots there methinks==

    Feds need to look for tent poles, sans tent.

  21. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 4:59 pm:

    Lots of new names and entities in the McCook search warrant. Will be interesting to see who they all are.

  22. - JennaM - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 5:37 pm:

    Only in Illinois. I think Marty and his cohorts watched too many gangster movies.

    Your kidding yourself and need to get out around the country more.

  25. - Al - Tuesday, Oct 15, 19 @ 9:40 pm:

    I will hazard walking out on a limb and say federal court. This is going to a federal court room.
