* Rep. Brad Halbrook on Facebook

Posted by Brad Halbrook on Monday, April 6, 2020

* A commenter on the Rend Lake Visitor Center’s Facebook page asked a few days ago if people can still fish at the lake. The center’s response

Yes. If you are using a boat, the South Marcum, Dam West, and Cypress View boat ramps are open. The North Gun Creek Boat Ramp, managed by the Rend Lake Conservancy District, which is where the Buck and Bass Cabins are is also open. This ramp is located north of Hwy 154, across from the Rend Lake Golf Course and just west of the I57 Sesser exit. If you are interested in fishing from the shoreline, all the hunter/fisherman parking lots managed by the Corps of Engineers, the Spillway recreation area, and the Dam West recreation area are all open at this time.

…Adding… Alton Telegraph

Alton Mayor Brant Walker on Monday described his wife, Shannon Walker’s decision to attend a gathering at an Alton bar that was ultimately shut down by police as “a stunning lack of judgment.”

Brant Walker issued the statement soon after Alton Police Chief Jason “Jake” Simmons reported that officers broke up the party at Hiram’s Tavern, 213 W. 3rd St. in Alton at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday.

Simmons said a criminal complaint of reckless conduct will be filed against each person at the party for violating the state’s State At Home order amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Brant Walker says he instructed Simmons to not give his wife any special treatment.

The truth has no power to stir fake outrage when a falsehood will do so nicely.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 3:51 pm:

    This is epically silly.

    Let’s break this down, for a sec…

First the flights, from New York. It’s a hot point in this crisis, no doubt. So, instead of the concern, maybe, for those flights landing in Chicago, that’s all “good”.

    Here’s why it’s good…

It’s good “as long as selfish souls can go out and fish”

So, Mr. Halbrook is so smart to fishing, flights from New York are fine right now, to own the libs

    See, here’s why this is so comically silly;

Trumpkins like DeSantis in Florida, his genius is to block off Florida with flights from NY, as they are unacceptable.

You have this alienation of NY by those unwilling to understand the importance of social distancing, but here, Mr. Halbrook is fine with NY flights… to justify Covidiot thinking.

    Got all that?

It’s like a Triple Lindy Pretzel to first own the libs, then embrace the opposite of the pandering, to be a Covidiot… because “freedom”

    Huh?

Even I know better not to golf… and it’s Masters week so it’s even more painful.

don’t let the facts get into the way of a good narrative.

    Brad Halbrook is lying!?

    NEVER! /s

  5. - jimbo - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 3:57 pm:

The flights are empty or nearly empty. They continue to fly partially as a condition to accepting the federal stimulus money.

  6. - DownSouth - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 4:01 pm:

It’s especially infuriating to those of us who work in the outdoor industry and are trying to keep people updated with the myriad of closures, and help them find ways to still safely enjoy some time outside in their own respective neighborhoods etc.

The fact that’s it just plain false - meh not surprised.

As an after thought, gee if he is so concerned about fishing..how about helping out our DNR on a few things? Or - novel concept help work to get the Rend Lake Resort debacle cleaned up?

Nah.. it’s just easier to post a meme that plays to his base….

On the upside..maybe folks will believe him, and stop flocking to rural southern IL from all over creation to recreate and actually follow the stay at home guidelines.

  7. - Earnest - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 4:02 pm:

Couldn’t do a better job of keeping people away from Rend Lake if he tried.

  9. - Norseman - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 4:32 pm:

There needs to be a supplemental category for this year’s Golden Horseshoe Awards - Covididiot Hall of Fame.

Halbrook and Skillicorn are leading contenders.

  10. - Former Downstater - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 4:39 pm:

There was a QC area bar busted last week for being open to customers. My favorite part from the news story-

“The investigation led the deputies to the Country Pub and Grill where they found several vehicles in the parking lot.

“The deputies went inside and found several people trying to hide under tables, the release said. “

  11. - Bigtwich - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 4:43 pm:

I am shocked that Rep. Halbrook would launch such an attack on President Trump. The US Army Corps of Engineers, serving under President Trump, runs Rend Lake, not the State of Illinois.

  14. - Responsa - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 5:09 pm:

Mayor Lightfoot admitting she got a haircut while all barbershops and salon chairs are shut down and saying it was necessary since she is “in the public eye and the face of Chicago” was a covidiot move.

  15. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 5:27 pm:

I think fishing individually is totally alright. Not much of a golfer, but that should be permitted. So long as proper social distancing is observed.

  16. - Good grief - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 6:17 pm:

Going from Roger Eddy to Brad Halbrook as State Rep. for that area is quite a tumble.

This entire dynamic really does pull back the curtain on some of the intellectually challenged that occupy some of the seats in the GA (see Eastern Bloc juggernauts and Skillicorn).

There are bright, thoughtful, capable, wonderful citizens living in these districts. I truly hope that going forward, the masses figure out that the fringe zealots now occupying the seats leave these Districts pragmatically unrepresented.

  17. - TheInvisibleMan - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 6:56 pm:

“1st, the chart came from Twitter so you know it’s legit”

This is a comment made by halbrook himself in defense of the source of another post he shared on facebook yesterday afternoon about the Murray model.

Way forward. Holbrook is running unopposed.

  19. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 7:08 pm:

    Halbrook, I mean.

  20. - Rendezvous - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 7:34 pm:

Kudos to the conservancy district for staying open like so many other local districts. Thankfully, they didn’t take the Governor’s lead.

Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park on Rend Lake of course is closed to the public so the confusion is understandable.

  21. - Oldtimer - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 7:36 pm:

Maybe we could have Tom Holbrook take over Brad Halbrook’s Facebook page and start voting for him in Springfield.

  22. - JS Mill - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 7:37 pm:

    @Donnie Elgin- very impressive. /s

  23. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 7:53 pm:

===… so the confusion is understandable.===

If you call gross incompetence, being a troll to pander, no matter the truth, or even the Trumpkin talking points are somehow… not aligned here.

Mr. Halbrook isn’t confused. A Covidiot, sure, but confused… nah, this is no different than trolls giving false information… “disinformation”… or gross incompetence of an elected official.

    I’ll let Mr. Halbrook choose.

Very true, but that won’t be understood here. Same with Carlyle Lake.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 8:04 pm:

    === that won’t be understood here===

… that Mr. Halbrook is a sadly pathetic for not grasping truth, or a pandering Trumpkin, knowing it was open and bent over sideways to make a point no matter the truth.

I’ll let you choose that one, lol

  26. - Cadillac - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 8:06 pm:

See, I told ya. Fishing was good today, BTW.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 8:09 pm:

Aw - Cadillac -, I know you crave my attention, living rent free in you head, I’ve learned lots…

Plus, again, fishing for my acknowledgement, bud, aim higher.

    :)

  28. - JS Mill - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 9:00 pm:

@Cadillac, Florida Governor DeSantis sends his regards. Ask him about the Florida infection rate thanks to his inaction and fealty to Trump.

Considering Florida’s median age, they are doing far better statistically than Illinois, but we’ll see. Hope you aren’t rooting against other states.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 9:58 pm:

    - Cadillac -

Stay well. Stay inside. This stuff out there is serious.

    Trust doctors not Covidiots.

=== Hope you aren’t rooting against other states.===

Hope you realize why Louisiana (Mardi Gras) is trending upward now, and still behind everyone.

    Florida just closed beaches.

Hope is not a strategy, only Covidiots hope things won’t happen.

  31. - JS Mill - Monday, Apr 6, 20 @ 11:48 pm:

@Cadillac- Of course you would try to turn my comment into rooting against other. That is you intellectual and maturity level.

You are such a victim. Much like the Florida governors self inflicted disaster.

“they are doing far better”. That has a familiar sound to it. Besides being false it has that trump flair for gross exaggeration and false narrative.

    Done feeding you.

I totally agree with Rep Halbrook. The Trump admin has totally dropped the ball on social distancing while Illinois has excelled. Thank you Representative for recognizing the facts;)

  34. - Corn Desert - Tuesday, Apr 7, 20 @ 9:23 am:

There is no reason for state park lakes to be closed, its a solitary activity that just might keep a few people sane.

  35. - Suburban Mom - Tuesday, Apr 7, 20 @ 11:49 am:

Among the people on those flights are doctors and nurses being repositioned from less-hard-hit areas to New York City or Chicago, who are accepting temporary work in NYC for its “peak” and then will move to Chicago or another city for its “peak” and so on, going back home when they burn out, get sick, or the epidemic is over. I have several friends, especially in the southwest, who are doctors and nurses who are currently working in NYC and plan to go wherever capacity is needed next.

The planes can’t only fly IN to NYC; they have to leave again so they can get more doctors and nurses.

    ——————-

I’m thinking the state park/lake closures are due to Staffing matters (probably some of the park workers are seen as non-essential at this time).
