An angry Republican who wants to ‘lock ‘em up,’ regardless of evidence. It’s not Trump. It’s Pat O’Brien.
O’Brien oversaw nearly 30 wrongful convictions as a prosecutor, including personally putting away four innocent black teenagers who together spent 47 years behind bars, helping make Chicago the false confession capitol.
His angry rhetoric? Pure Trump. His record as a prosecutor? Even worse. Pat O’Brien’s wrong for State’s Attorney.
…Adding… I forgot to link to O’Brien’s ad. Click here.
It’s a good commercial. I’m not sure it is true but it gets out the typical dem talking point that every R is with Trump. It also links O’Brien to wrongful convictions although the truth may be that the wrongful convictions were based on factors other than misconduct by O’Brien. Bottom line is if she was running away with this election, she wouldn’t be going this way.
That’s an A. Though it should probably be graded on a curve because you don’t have to be a combination of David Axelrod and Karl Rove to figure out how to craft the right ad in Cook County. Trump will be lucky to hit 20 percent. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
She got my vote because she’s the only SA I know that’s standing up to police corruption. Normally their offices are a part of it.
- thisjustinagain - Monday, Oct 19, 20 @ 12:39 pm:
Her ad is ineffective as she is. O’Brien dares to lock up violent felons, and repeat offenders. Notice how the Feds managed to promptly arrest and charge several felons in possession of firearms, while she postures about racial inequity as the body count rises.
O’Brien could (and probably will) double Trump’s vote total and still lose in a landslide. I suppose if the margin ended up in single digits it would excite Foxx’s many detractors and highlight some vulnerability. But four years is a long time in politics, so they shouldn’t get too excited.
It puts O’Brien on the defensive with a record, if he chooses to answer in the media or in an ad, and it connects O’Brien with Trump thinking or logic to be joined together.
It’s not like O’Brien is running away from Trump either, so it helps to reinforce a connection.
I’m strongly supporting O’Brien but I have to admit is is a pretty good ad. To the extent that she has a problem, it is with life long Dems that think she has done a poor job. This takes the attention away from her record and points it at O’Brien.
We will see. Polls are suggesting something very different. Trump could lose the overall white vote for the first time in 50 years for a Republican. It has been at least that long since the Republican Presidential candidate lost the senior citizen vote.
Most certainly, all Dems were NOT with Hillary. Your blanket statement really isn’t true. I see MANY Republicans expressing buyers remorse with Trump in this election cycle.
And if there was any polling showing this race was close, the independent expenditure committees that helped her in the primary would be kicking in by now.
=I think the intent of the Comment is everyone running for an office is with Trump.=
Outwardly, most probably are . . . . .however, many find him repulsive and are currently distancing themselves from him (not exactly a profile in courage at this late date).
A number of Republicans running for office are embarrassed by him and are quietly hoping he loses. The real test will be when the reconciliation comes if Trump loses and the Republicans get crushed in the Governor’s race in 2022 which is almost a certainty.
At 80-38 in the House and 18 members in the Senate, if a new day isn’t on the horizon, the Republican Party as we used to know it is over (it is arguable that it already is over).
The Eastern Bloc and their ilk are a relic of some other era that has no audience of critical mass in the future.
=== Outwardly, most probably are . . . . .however, many find him repulsive and are currently distancing themselves from him (not exactly a profile in courage at this late date).===
… and yet you can’t name a single Trumpkin/Raunerite who *isn’t* running with Trump?
The reason is… they’re running *with* Trump. lol
=== A number of Republicans running for office are embarrassed by him and are quietly hoping he loses.===
LOL… (catches breath)… LOL
WhY are the they *saying* it… ‘cause they’re running…with Trump.
I got the receipts. The phonies, the Rauner phonies… they can’t hide. We’re 15 days out… still no denouncing.
=== The real test will be when the reconciliation comes if Trump loses and the Republicans get crushed in the Governor’s race in 2022 which is almost a certainty.===
The Raunerites need a quicker “Come to the Mount” moment than 2022.
The phony Barickman opinion piece he did after Rauner lost won’t cut it. The real damage the Raunerite/Trumpkins did, the brand will need a severe overhaul, and the likes of… Barickman, Rose, Demmer, phonies to the Rauner years, hoping people forget, Trump won’t help and losing another gubernatorial race won’t help… they need serious “mea culpa” type thinking come January. Honest, real, “sorry we did this Illinois, you can trust us, we will show you can trust us” type of language.
=== The Eastern Bloc and their ilk are a relic of some other era that has no audience of critical mass in the future.===
Right now, they call the tune, and at times and places of their choosing, no one seems to call them on it in real time.
To bring it back?
O’Brien is running with Trump… until he denounces Trump. The party platform… is only Trump, it’s one page, “we support Trump.”
Foxx not putting it in the ad would be malpractice
“Outwardly, most probably are . . . . .however, many find him repulsive and are currently distancing themselves from him (not exactly a profile in courage at this late date). A number of Republicans running for office are embarrassed by him and are quietly hoping he loses.”
Sure.
And fleeing a traffic accident is fine as long as you are embarrassed by what happened and quietly hope that the people you’ve hit-and-run from are somehow going to be okay.
Since almost all of the cases she is talking about involved ineffective assistance of counsel or witnesses who recant with the real cases of Burge and DNA testing that didn’t exist then, it’s a good false narrative to push. Plus the fact that he’s the one who vacated convictions during his time there.
Pat has been boldly lying to her face about her involvement in the Smollett case and some people like the media bought into it. It was smart to lull him to sleep and then hit him over the head with the sledgehammer (ie Roscetti Four Case). Brilliant political move. Everyone remembers that horrible case.😔
uh-oh. Another special prosecutor to investigate Kim Foxx over destruction of evidence in the Wilson case? She quickly tried to have AG Kwame investigate it but since he’s given her so much money it smells corrupt from the start. A cesspool of corruption is a brewin’

Pat O’Brien will not win, but I think the final election results will show that Foxx will significantly underperform Biden/Durbin/etc.
She has not done a good job as State’s Attorney and the County is worse off than before she was in office.

Every Republican *IS* with Trump.
Trump is at the top of the ballot because he’s the head of the GOP and one’s party preference is a choice.
Every Republican has had four years to choose something other than Trump’s party.
