Bill Brady responds to Edgar, talks Palin and Quinn’s taxes

Posted in:

* Sen. Bill Brady had a press conference today to unveil a new website, StopThePatQuinnTax.com. He also took questions from reporters. My intern Dan Weber asked him about the criticisms lobbed at him by former GOP Gov. Jim Edgar

* Brady said he wasn’t planning to attend Sarah Palin’s event near Peoria, but heaped praise on the former veep nominee

* He was also asked about the capital plan

* His opening statement

* And while we’re posting videos, here’s an unedited video of my intern Barton Lorimor trying to ask Gov. Quinn a couple of questions outside an event last night. Barton didn’t have much luck at first, but he got it done..

…Adding… Brady was also asked what he was doing to reach out to minority communities…

  1. Whew, I am glad Brady shorted that Web site name. Their first one was:

  9. While I appreciate all your intern’s dogged efforts, Rich, you simply HAVE to get them better cameras, or make them read the manual on how to work them better. I’m not asking for network quality; the content of course rates first, but some of the recent footage is pretty poor technically, almost unwatchable. Get them cameras with a good built-in motion stabilizer and a good microphone. maybe the Kodak Zi8, which can take an external mic input from press mult boxes or a quality hand-held mic like the radio guys use. Add a simple pistol grip to it to make it easy to hold one-handed, and your video should look way better. Still all fits in a coat pocket.

    By the way, they can get their audio improved for free by using the Levelator plug-in when making their clips for your site. Drag-and drop, levels made even and noise reduced.

  11. I don’t think Brady’s response is bad. What is he going to do, criticize Edgar, the only guy in the scene today who has actually guided the state out of an unbalanced budget situation. Maybe a little of “Gov. Edgar, I’m just pledging to do what you did, rescue a bankrupt state without raising taxes. I’m willing to be the Gov, “No” that you were. Do you prefer my opponent’s approach?”

  12. I would love to know how the income tax prevents job creation. New hires pay tax on themselves, so no hit there. Businesses count employees as an expense (which would reduce their earnings and tax liability). Unemployed people don’t pay tax & those who have received a pay cut will likely pay less under the tax plans I have seen.

    To the contrary, a bankrupt state with bad infrastructure and underfunded schools is not likely to attract many new businesses.

  13. Does anyone think Edgar’s comments about Brady’s fiscal policy are anything less than political? I believe some/many GOPS want to see Brady lose this race. They want the DEMs to own the fiscal nightmare, then take back the governorship in ‘14. Edgar is a centrist Republican and knows Brady gives the right wing traction at a time when the party as a whole should become more centrist in order to survive.

  14. The Dems in this state have a smackdown coming, but I’ll lay money now that Brady won’t deliver. He just can’t elevate his game.

    You can roll with the Sarah Palins, and you’ll be the most popular guy among 25% of the population. That just doesn’t cut it, and that’s what Edgar has been trying to tell him.

    Quinn is the luckiest man in show business. Blago, now Brady. Lightweights.
