Question of the day

Posted in:

* Oops. I forgot to ask a question. That hasn’t happened in a while.

How about this: Say something positive about both Pat Quinn and Bill Brady. No snark, please. And include both in your answers.

  3. Pat Quinn - Appears to be honest and not feathering his own bank next.

    Bill Brady - Family man.

  5. They are both relatively honest and straightforward proponents of their respective philosophies of what government should do. Whatever their other faults, neither is a panderer.

  6. Pat Quinn has proven, beyond any doubt, how his compassion for members of our Armed Forces is real, and goes beyond what others may deem as self promotion. Pat Quinn does much more behind the scenes, especially for our fallen, then he given credit.

Bill Brady is a class act, giving a wide berth to Kirk Dillard, and making what could have been the most contentious primary result in Illinois history, to be a show of pure class, so much so, that when Brady and Dillard said it was over and still had respect for each other, people actually believed all they heard. Only a class person can handle something like this in politics an not look petty and such … that speaks volumes to the character of a man.

  7. Willy is right, I forgot the Military thing for Quinn. He did that for years before the press even picked up on it…I believe that is genuine.

  8. Pat Quinn: Means well.

Bill Brady: Just can’t do without snark. All the good answers are off the table.

  9. Willy’s got it.

  10. Quinn I do believe is an honest man campared to his former running mate.

Brady well he’s a family man. Yeah I stole that from the other responses. Sorry.

Comment by Levois Tuesday, Jul 20, 10 @ 1:28 pm

  11. Quinn really is sincere in his desire to improve the state’s position.

Brady seems sincere about his positions, regardless of what people may say about their consequences. (I know that sounds somewhat snarky, but as John McCain spins like a weathervane in Arizona and Kirk changes his mind situationally it is nice to know someone actually has convictions)

Comment by Berkeley Bear Tuesday, Jul 20, 10 @ 1:37 pm

  12. Again, people, I’m getting sick of deleting comments. Stick to the question, please.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jul 20, 10 @ 1:39 pm

  13. First off this was a tough question.

Bill Brady has experience in the Illinois House and Senate, so he knows how Springfield works from both of these angles.

Pat Quinn, is out there, he passes Turkeys out, he is at most if not every fallen Veteran’s funeral, he is at most every event, parade etc. he can be, he never used a body guard as Lt, (I am not sure about now) Quinn is out there with his constituents.

  14. Pat Quinn - A flawed, but decent man.

    Bill Brady - Very passionate

  15. I’ve found Senator Brady and Governor Quinn to share a few similarities. They both support high speed rail (interesting that the only two supporters of high speed rail in the Republican gubernatorial primary ended up the top two finishers — and the biggest opponent of high speed rail ended up in last place).

And Senator Brady has an instinct to expand democracy that he shares with the Governor. As an example, the biggest franchise-expanding bill this session requires election administrators to provide in-person voter registration on public college campuses during the grace period from 29 to 7 days before the general election. While almost all Republicans voted against the bill, and many fought it as hard as they can, Senator Brady voted for it. Likewise, Senator Brady (along with Senator Dillard and then-Minority Leader Watson) was one of three Republicans to vote for the bill a few years ago to use the national popular vote to select Illinois’ electors in order to move towards a true national election for president where every vote counts equally.

I find both traits admirable in both men.

Brady sincerely represents an outlook many share.

  18. Both these guys stepped into positions where they are taking serious heat over every little trivial and major thing they do or say. It can’t be a lot of fun seeing your name in the papers or on blogs like this getting raked through the coals every day. Part of the job they say they want, but still you need to be pretty sure of yourself to survive long and stay positive.

  19. for both=Whomever of you is elected, you will inherit impossible circumstances and it will take much from you and your family to solve. You are both running for Governor with this in mind so I say you are both courageous.

  20. Quinn and Brady both strike me as relatively honest and principled politicians. Neither one will join Blago and George Ryan in Club Fed.

Comment by Reformer Tuesday, Jul 20, 10 @ 2:59 pm

  21. Pat Quinn - frugal (for his own expenses), believes he has the needs of Illinoisans at heart; not looking to set himself up for the big payout.

Bill Brady - true to his conservative principles; is looking out for what he believes to be the “little guy”; first gubernatorial candidate in a long time that thinks more about people south of I-80 than north of it; family first.

Scott Lee Cohen - he…aw, skip it.

BB has been a loyal steward to his constitutency.

  26. Unlike Blago, at least Pat Quinn comes to work every day. Bill Brady doesn’t shy away from giving his opinion.

  27. Rich, there’s an interesting story in the news swction about quinn using state resources to camaign. this was suspected during the primary and quinn was questioned about then, and lied.

but, i’ll answer your question of the day…

quinn: i though he was a good lt guv.

brady: i agree with others who have cited his character and willingness to speak his mind. while i don’t think illinois needs a lt. guv, given the unimportance of the office, i liked the way brady stood up for plummer when plummer came under attack shortly after the primary. a man(?) of lesser character would have dissed and ditched his nominated runningmate at the first hint of (possible) trouble. from what i have seen and heard brady is a good-natured and nice guy. i was impressed with some of the things that he did during the primary; he’s a hardworker. i think he’ll be a far better governor than people think. the’ll be a few kinks in the beginning of his administration, but the will be worked out and he will do illinoisans proud because of his work ethic and charcter.
