This episode: We talk with pundits, analysts and reporters about the week in Illinois politics.
WBEZ’s Sam Hudzik gives us background on the resignation of Governor Pat Quinn’s Chief of Staff Jerry Stermer. Capitol Fax Editor Rich Miller likens the race for Illinois governor to the 1980 presidential race between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. And we talk with Laura Washington, Scott McPherson and Michael Bauer about this week’s political news.
“Best Game in Town” will cover Chicago politics from the Statehouse to the White House with lively analysis, insightful interviews and in-depth feature reports. The name is nod to the colorful world of Chicago politics – and comes from Cheryl Corley’s weekly political show in the early 90’s on WBEZ of the same name. (We’re resurrecting the title). The Best Game in Town is tentatively scheduled to air Fridays on WBEZ and as an extended weekly podcast via iTunes. The show is hosted by Steve Edwards and produced by Justin Kaufmann.

While I realize you look very good on radio, I’m not sure family radio is your best format. Did they edit out your cursing or simply bleep over it?

Nice line up! I wishe we had more programs like this in IL
instead the mediaoutlets seem determined to kill off political coverage in favor of canned national AP pieces (usually from people outside of the State who have no idea what is really occuring)

Hey Rich, try to be the Angry White Man on the show. It’s incredibly lucrative. The best have New York Times #1 hardcovers (that’s what she said) with books that they DICTATE while driving.
Yet, somehow, they seem bitter and pessimistic about our prospects as a country. Rush, given your talent, history and success, I find that perplexing.
Sadly, on a beautiful late August day, at the start of football season, with the White Sox in the hunt, and a garden full of tomatoes and peppers, I’m the Optimistic White Man.
Believe me, there’s no extra money in that.

Does this new show mean they are dropping “State Week In Review”? There should be room for both shows, since one is based in Springfield, and the other, Chicago.

Interesting 1980 Reagan-Carter comparision. However, I first heard Zack Stamp make the same comparison last February after Brady won the primary. It’s a good spin for the GOP.
