· Sun-Times editorializes in favor of medical marijuana proposal. “In fact, Illinois already has a law on the books authorizing the State Police and the Illinois Department of Public Health to allow medical marijuana.” The proposal would make it mandatory. More coverage here.

Let me guess, the answer is more money.
I love these studies. Notice how they never say who gets the “A”. Every state is always last in every study, encouraging them to spend more money on whatever special interest group sponsored the study.

About the casinos….

The governers race is becomming disgusting, especially the anti-gay bigotry and very deceptive advertising. Are there really citizens Who want such a despicable and corrupt person as governer?

Funny, I didn’t see a mention of that in our “health care” Governor’s campaign commericial.
No state got an ‘A’ However only 8 states got an ‘F’
And the solutions offered were not “more money”. They were improve consumer education, eliminate discrimination, improve data collection, and tie reimbursement to quality measures.
Besides being the only large, populous state to receive an F grade, Illinois flunked the “Consumer and Family Test Drive” of information accessibility through the state mental health agency’s Web site and telephone system. In one instance, an Illinois agency employee told a consumer: “No, I don’t want to help you.”
So, sounds to me like we deserved an ‘F’ and we should strive to improve our program, not casually dispell these studies.

I’m not in anyway connected with Mental Health industry, but this state has some real problems administering health care and it concerns me that they are getting in even deeper over their heads with “All-Kids”

And you intend to provide these service improvements without using “more money” exactly how….?

Oh, you mean like “real” money — When I said it wasn’t more money I was assuming Filan could just add another day onto the payment delays to Medicaid doctors. Then it’s free! Throw in a mental health provider tax, draw down some additional federal match, and voila — you’ve got a profit center. Set up an intergovernmental transfer, declare everyone in Cook County mentally insane, admit them to Stroger Hospital and bada boom bada bing — we can fund the pension shortfall!
But seriously, tieing reimbursement to quality measures might actually reduce costs. It’s not like these mental health guys are demanding 20% reimbursement increases — which they could. These are pretty common sense, cost-effective improvements.

Lynn Sweet wrote an excellent column. Duckworth(less) should disclose her campaign finances, and she should explain to the district how and where her campaign earns its money. She is probably one of the most corrupt candidates in the 2006 cycle.
