  1. I’m not a big fan of actors portraying “real people” in political spots like in Madigan’s. There are plenty of real people out there. I like the voting booth, though.

Good health care workers are angels on earth.

  2. Lisa’s ad is 9/10 - I really like the whole voting booth in the real world theme. Great spots - consistent messaging. Money well spent.

  3. Melissa Joesphs? Is that supposed to be Josephs? Sigh.

  4. The Quinn Stories ads should have been the Quinn Television Presence. 8 / 10.

Lisa Madigan, I give it an A. Then again, Lisa Madigan could run a :60 ad featuring Rod Blagojevich wearing a cape, spandex body suit and cowboy boots, and still win the election. Lisa is untouchable.

  5. Why is there a voting booth on the sidewalk?

  6. -1,000 out of 10 on the ad. the economy sucks in illinois right now so I’m looking for where this difference she speaks of is in the state?

    awful.

  7. I guess it’s an okay ad but only because it has no competition. I’m quite disapointed that she doesn’t have the hair blow back look though.

  8. Why not some third party validation of her work–all the stock footage does nothing for me. And what about a speaking role for her. She’s getting ripped off if she paid for than a couple of thousand for production.

  9. Let’s see….Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were instructing, no, demanding that financial institutions give loans to pretty much anyone who could find their way to them. Now, somehow they are predatory lenders? Interesting.

How about corruption in State Government in general? Now if she had a boast about convictions in that area that would be good.

Ad seems pretty weak other than to say that she is running.

  10. Quinn’s internet guy should have been his TV guy. Pat’s biggest mistake of the campaign.

  11. “While Washington did nothing . . .”

Coming from a Democrat no less.

  12. “Coming from a Democrat no less. ”

Lisa just get elected in 2008?

  13. Less than creative, it may not be a great spot, but it ain’t cheap.

That’s not stock footage. You have a carefully crafted interior set (somebody got paid to put it together) with two actors. Another setup outside with another actor going in the polling booth. Then another interior setup with Lisa talking to a dude who may or may not be an actor.

Besides the set creations and actors, you’ve got creative fees, account services, director, cameraman, film, hairstylist and makeup person, lighting, etc.

Two thousand bucks doesn’t get you chi-chi beans. We learned that from some of the awful cheap stuff we saw in the primary (cough, David Hoffman, cough).

  14. totally confused by Quinn’s ad — the woman is in nursing school, dressed like THAT? Going on a trip? Minimum wage? What’s that got to do with a nurse?

Comment by justsickofit Friday, Oct 15, 10 @ 1:18 pm

  15. 9/10 for Madigan’s ad. Ditto Siriusly about the actors. Geez, what does that cost? Couldn’t find any real people? But money isn’t really a problem for her at the moment.

It’s a good ad because it nails what we want from an Attorney General. AGs aren’t crime busters, no matter how much some candidates pretend to be. And most of us here know the backstory on her deference to the US Attorney on the major corruption cases in Illinois, so nice try but it ain’t working.

One critique though, and this applies to all 50 Attorneys General, the horse has been out of the barn for a couple of years. It’s nice that you all are now investigating mortgage lenders, but it’s a little late to tell us that you’re finally closing the barn door.

  16. I assume that the Quinn video meant “Melissa Josephs,” of Women Employed, and not “Melissa Joesphs” (sic)?

    Comment by some_dude Friday, Oct 15, 10 @ 2:33 pm

  17. @Bill F. - Lisa got elected as AG in 2002. She was a State Senator for 4 years before that.

  18. Just, dressed like WHAT (since you like caps). What’s the problem?

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Oct 15, 10 @ 3:14 pm

  19. the video does not pop the way the copy does on the Lisa ad. it makes one feel uneasy, perhaps that is the point, and then she swoops in and makes it all better. feels off.

  20. I know, Happy.

My point was that Lisa ragging on Washington isn’t limited to January, 2009-present.

  21. some_dude you are so right. embarrassing mistake. Melissa Josephs it is. We corrected it on Youtube.

  23. Lisa’s a classy candidate with a good record who’s taking the high road in her ads. The ad is pointed and the voting booth helps it stand out from the usual negative crap that always out there.

  24. The Madigan ad was shot on my street in Westchester about a month and a half ago. Wouldn’t really call myself her supporter, but nevertheless it was kind of cool to see some of the work.
