Another Brady ad connects Quinn to Blagojevich

[Bumped up from Tuesday evening for visibility.]

* I posted a Bill Brady ad earlier today that brought up Rod Blagojevich right off the bat. Another ad, called “Partner,” is far more negative with the Blagojevich stuff. Rate it…

…Adding… The ad falsely claims that Gov. Quinn stuck taxpayers “with a $250 million pay raise for government workers.” The alleged “deal” with AFSCME was about layoffs. AFSCME’s contract, which included the pay raises, was negotiated by Rod Blagojevich.

Another home run for Brady. I give this one a 8.5, simply because I like the “Pat Quinn cannot do this job,” “Pat Quinn had his chance”" spot better. It’s more earnest, faster. Also, I think he should have kept the “it’s time for a clean break,” tag.

There’s certainly no lack of material for negative ads on either side.

Actually, Quinn did stick taxpayers with the raise. He in essence renegotiated the contract that allows 8 percent raises in the next year (series of steps). Quinn renegotiated it so that no layoffs can occur but he didn’t try to reign in raises. Therefore he stuck us with them.

Another good set of ads for Brady, the Quinn has given him a lot of ammo to work with and he is using very well.

I’ve had a feeling all along that Brady was saving the ‘Blago Partner’ ads for the last minute. Bet they’re played hard this weekend.

I also think Quinn has been saving the big emotional hit, but can’t figure what it is. I don’t think ‘puppies’ will do it. But between him, the unions, and the nationwide dems, there must be something.

I have not seen a Quinn ad in days.

Don’t recall if I saw any yesterday, but didn’t want much tv. Definitely saw several on Sunday during football.

These ads are slick, and Brady is stylish - much as Rod Blagojevich was. People know that Brady has more in common with Rod than Pat Quinn ever will.

Oh my goodness. Having lived in Bloomington all my life, these ads make me sick. People in this town are dumbfounded by polls. Bill Brady?? He has been well trained for sure and brought in a great staff to run his campaign. But Even local republicans are worried about the “monster” that the McLean Co. Party has created. In fact one high-ranking party member said that Brady better surround himself by some really smart people. To put things mildly, people down here can’t believe he’s doing this well because he’s always been known as the FAR less intelligent Brady (reference to Dan Brady)

Maybe I’m naive, but how do these people get away with outright lying about the other candidate? If it wasn’t election season, wouldn’t the lawsuits be flying?

I know I’m off topic but there was an editorial cartoon in the Trib today which depicted Cutler with a Quinn button and something replaced his head. I couldn’t figure out what it was about. Maybe it could be a riddle of the day or something.

Brady may not be smart, but neither is Quinn and his brain trust. Dillard would have been better, but again Il voters can’t seem to get it right. We’re screwed! I just retired and I’m seriously considering moving out of IL.

Well, for one, Quinn had three versions of an ad talking about how often Brady was in session. The first two got pulled because they were blatantly false (cited statistics that could be proved false). The final ad was accurate but ineffective (the real stats wasn’t so damning) and it didn’t get much traction.

Thank you for posting the SJ-R interviews. Once you get past the sound bytes Brady doesn’t have a clue. It looks like he’s memorized these lines and practiced them in front of a mirror. And when he’s caught off guard he tries to flip to a different line. You can see the blank pauses when he finishes a memorized line. Then there’s the longer pauses when he gets thrown a little off guard and tries to pick up one of his lines. Where’s the substance? Where’s Illinois’ Katie Couric to expose this flakiness before it’s too late? It’s easy to wish that over-simplified solutions would make things better. Quinn obviously has what it takes to lead Illinois to a better place. He has a real record to prove it. He’s bringing jobs to Illinois on a daily basis. He’s accomplished more sweeping reforms and legislation than any of his recent predecessors. Let’s take responsibility and do our part too.

The raise claim is a fair hit.

The union contract was reopened to give the union layoff protections. At that time, we had a $13 billion deficit. Quinn did not move to reduce or eliminate those pay raises when he had the contract wide open. When he closed the contract back up, and those raises were intact, then he owned them. It’s really very simple.

@CindyLou-I happen to agree w/Rich’s initial point, which apparently you do as well. But when someone posts something you don’t agree with, it would be helpful if you backed up your opposition with more than one word.

Also, someone pointed out a lack of Quinn spots lately. Maybe its just the clutter, but I dont recall seeing to many lately. Anyone (and i mean Rich) know what he has bought right now? I cant imagine he isnt up point for point, but there is so much out there it may be getting lost.

I understand you want to save something good for the end in a campaign, but I’m kind of surprised it took Brady this long to play the Blago card this hard on Quinn. It seems like this only came out after Quinn ran that “Do we really want another governor with ethics problems?” ad.

I kind of wonder how much an ad like this affects things at this stage in the game, when a percentage of voters have already voted early and most casual voters are already experiencing major campaign ad fatigue.

Pension reform. Nursing home reform. Campaign finance reform. Capital bill.

Those are four pretty huge pieces of legislation.

Adlai Stevenson Jr. “the snoozer” would be killing either of these guys. Sam Shapiro could have won in a cake walk. Even Marty Oberman and Alex Seith Junior would win their first real election. Who’s the tallest midget? (oops Andy McKenna spent a small fortune answering that question) However, we have members of the same brain trust that blew the primary capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

And you still want to vote for Republicans on November 2? Bill Brady hasn’t done anything positive for Illinois the entire time he has been in Springfield. Why would we give him the state to run?
As for the comment on Marty Oberman from “Whatever…” I remember when Oberman was my alderman in Lincoln Park. What a joke…our ward never had it so bad as during his term.

Because the folks who are running it now have not done a good job. My local school is owed millions, a couple of years ago it took the state over 30 days to deposit my tax payment, I have a governor who shows up with millions for grants to improve a riverfront park when the homeless shelter a couple of blocks away is owed tons of money.

I had a governor who couldn’t govern to save his life and no one seemed to do anything about that until the feds stepped in. A deficit so large that it is not just the fault of a slowing economy and a legislature that let the former governor get away with a ton of stupid financial tricks that are coming home to roost.

A legislature that passed and a governor who signed a budget that everyone knew was not balanced when at least I learned in middle school that the state constitution kind of required that.

For what it is worth I did vote for some Democrats on my ballot.

Also I already voted.

You may find in incosevable that anyone would vote for a Republican or Bill Brady for that matter. But I think you will find a lot of folks think just about anyone (besides SLC) would be a better pick than the gang we have now.

Speaking of simplifications… Quinn was Blago’s “partner”? Must be on those “secret” FBI tapes we haven’t heard about. Apparently we also haven’t carried out the simple analysis that Quinn’s “secret deals” aren’t secret deals if everyone in Illinois knows about them. Honesty, transparency, open government… pretty simple.
