  1. It’s almost like she’s consciously trying to keep the runoff from happening.

  2. I thought Noonan and Reyes were running that race? …. looks more like Jason Plummer is in charge.

Tin foil hats at the ready ….

It’s either that OR … CMB is inept as we thought she was…

  4. Maybe the heat is helping galvanize the 42% of the vote that is African American. Look at the new poll, taken last Tues -Thurs. She is surguing.

  5. Just imagine if she had made money like Emamuel and Chico — it would be a mini-series.

Still hard to believe a former U.S. Senator and ambassador couldn’t have made some money hooking up with a law firm, foundation, corporate boards, universities or any combination thereof.

What was it before the organic teas — a cashew farm or something?

I’ve got one — Ketchup and Mustard in the same bottle. Call Kramerica Industries. Ask for Kosmo.

  6. I wonder if her political thinking might be that this way she manages to keep her name in front of the voters and it doesn’t cost her a dime? Maybe she bought into that old adage that “bad publicity is better than no publicity at all” a little too literally? Then again, she knows that her personal financial situation will appeal to a large segment of the Chicago voters that are struggling to survive themselves. They will be more readily able to identify with her than with Chico or Rahm. She might be the “sly old fox” on this one.

The question is for whom are they running that race. Sure doesn’t seem lime CMB.

  8. She’d be four years of tremendous material for City Hall beat reporters.

Comment by Boone Logan Square Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 1:21 pm

  9. OMG - too funny.

Now that Davis is out of the way - the Braun campaign can afford to do a nose dive? Is that what’s going on here?

    No run-off for Rahm.

  10. Perhaps she feels that she’ll attract more voters if it’s perceived the media is attacking her. It’s really the only political move she has left.

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 1:55 pm

  11. Wow, this is just getting weirder. Last week at Northside DFA, she stated before the endorsement vote (which del Valle got without showing up), that there is nothing more than just losses with her organic tea company. This has become a lot weirder.

    Comment by Rahm's Parking Meter Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 1:56 pm

  12. She will play this up as outside attacks and it will help her with her base. It is sad but it is Chicago no matter how inept the candidate you can count on certain things and in Chicago 2011 race still matters.

Comment by Fed up Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 2:05 pm

  13. I have to agree with Fed Up and Wensicia. She has decided to be the victim. Brown, Zorn and Mary ? (trib) have to be the most liberal columnists in the print media and all took shots at her last week. Mary Mitchell may be the only sympathetic media person she will have

Comment by Hank Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 2:17 pm

  14. I’m just amazed at how she is treating this issue.

The way I see it, she has 3 choices.
    - Turn it into a positive- “I’ve experienced first hand the difficulties of running a business in Chicago, and it has demonstrated the need to improve our business environment”.
    - Never talk about it again and let it disappear in a week
    - Constantly remind everyone that she made no money.

Thus far it appears as though she has gone with option three, which holds no real advantage.

Comment by Matt Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 2:35 pm

  15. She’s counting on the free publicity and reporters being seen as overly aggressive to help her case. Hey, it worked for Rahm at the residency hearings.

Comment by SR Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 2:50 pm

  16. Good grief!!
I sure wish I could take back that vote for her agains Fitzgerald back in 1996. What was I thinking??

    Comment by train111 Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 2:56 pm

  17. SR, that’s not quite true. The media was essentially 100% in favor of letting Rahm run, and then they had the opportunity to watch the three ring circus that was the residency hearing.

In this case CMB is relying on voters being turned off by reporters being aggressive with her as opposed to Rahm being defended by reporters.

    Comment by J Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:03 pm

  18. She’s a one-woman Snark inducer.

Comment by chiatty Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:03 pm

  19. She just needs one more press conference to clear up all this misunderstanding about her finances.

Comment by One of the 35 Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:05 pm

  20. I seriously doubt there’s a conscious strategy by CMB to keep this alive for sympathy votes. It’s like every move by Mike Madigan is made to ensure that Lisa can be elected governor in 2026.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:13 pm

  21. J, I don’t disagree with you, but in Braun’s case the media will play the role of “citizen questioners” at Rahm’s residency hearings. That’s what Braun and her advisers are probably hoping for. They’re playing to a different audience, and possibly not even to win at this point, but to get more donations.

Comment by SR Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:15 pm

  22. ==I sure wish I could take back that vote for her agains Fitzgerald back in 1996. What was I thinking??==

I hear ya. Even without all this new stuff, it must’ve been bad enough having to reconcile voting for her two years before the 1998 Senate Election.

Comment by ANON Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:23 pm

  23. Word, so why does she keep saying she’s through talking about this and then brings it back up the next day or two? Isn’t this round three?

I think it’s keep her name up front, portray the black female candidate picked on by the media, and thus fire up her base.

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Jan 10, 11 @ 3:27 pm

  24. Wen, I think she’s shockingly disorganized and unfocused for someone who thinks she could be the chief executive of the City of Chicago.

I’ve heard her give great speeches, and seen her hold her own in some Byzantine legislative intrigue. At times, she could be quite effective as a legislator.

But there’s a way different skill set involved in being a mayor. Hmmm? Sounds like a certain governor I know who would have been an excellent champion for working-class Illinoisans as a U.S. Senator.

    ————————–

Illinoisans had the chance to make certain governor a senator in 1996. Instead, they choose Mr. Partisan, Dick Durbin. Though I have to say Durbin impressed me with a couple of actions/votes over the last year. Quinn, indeed, would have been a far better senator than he is governor.
