Well, looks like Brady is close enough to warrant the “spoiler” name.
And even if the Major pulls it off in the 6th, I can’t see a close win helping her in the fall.
And what about Rita mullins? Not even close….

I just watched Joe Birkett’s speech. What do Judy and Joe stand for? They can keep talking about how corrupt they think Rod is, but what is their vision for Illinois? It backfired when the Democrats bashed Bush without a vision for the country and its going to backfire on the Republicans.
If elected the Topinka/Birkett ticket is going to make sure 14 year olds in Illinois can’t get abortions on demand. Wow what a vision for Illinois. What a joke!

I’m a Democrat, but I’ll tell you this, Judy is a lot more likeable than Rod. Maybe it’s just because she sounds genuine and real instead of like a political robo-elvis

How was the turnout in your area?
McLean County had only 20.33% (66 of 66 precincts tabulated)and the city of Bloomington mere 16.88% (with 42 of 44.) If my math is right, that’s 18.6%–really pathetic.

I had heard that Mrs. Salvi was predicted to win… But the figures I saw, a little while ago, showed that McSweeney’s victory wasn’t even a close one. [I could be mixing it up with another race… That is very much not my district.]
But at least we knew that, whoever ending up taking that nomination, a conservative would have been the pick. [From what I’ve heard, Rep. Churchill may have been the best option… And I think that he may have good traditionalist views on labor and economics.] At least we don’t have a situation in which a good conservative was beaten by a liberal Republican [or a “moderate”].
That might be the case in other races tonight, though.

The candidate and the campaign have said nothing, but it is time to start thinking about raising money for a recount. Cook County has been a disaster, there have been district-wide glitches with these new e-machines, and the margin is going to wind up being about 2%.
There is no automatic recount triggered in Illinois; a candidate must call for it. It costs $75,000 to just trigger a recount, and will cost more to get it done.”
It appears they are already getting ready to contest the results should Christine lose. Oy vey.

Hah problems in chicago with the new machines…imagine that, must be letting the dead vote…doesn’t bode well for Claypool, hope he pulls off the upset…Extremely happy with the margin JBT is winning Cook by…it’s been a close exciting race!!

I just about spit out my drink when Rod said that he solved the state’s budget problem.
I also liked how Judy admitted that it’s easy to support Rod’s social programs, but that he has no way to pay for them and that is irresponsible. She’s absolutely right.

Oh my gosh, the Stroger people are already blaming corrupt election officials for their loss.
They are also mad that “the black votes” haven’t been counted. Why do they insist on playing the race card? If a Republican were to complain that “the white votes” haven’t been counted, there would be calls for their head. Makes me sick.
Why can’t they just instead point out that Stroger’s base of support has yet to be declared without calling them “the black votes”?

This is pathetic, these votes should have been counted awhile ago…if there were failures should these issues not have been addressed earlier? It’s gonna be a long night and both camps will be crying foul…I frankly don’t blame either of them…Orr’s head should be on a platter

At 12:23, the suntimes officially declared Topinka the projected winner. It was a close one, but I believe the result is what is best for Illinois and the republican party. Good night and good luck.

Well, Bill protected the Illinois GOP from Oberweis as the nominee so looks like he the Illinois GOP owes him one (Republican nominee vs. Durbin in 2008?)
Also thanks to the person with the link for the county breakdown for the votes. EE didn’t win many counties but one I thought was interesting was Champaign county. Could Naomi Jakobsson be in trouble in the general because of anti-Blagojevich sentiment?

Brady is now the fave’Â for the next R-Senate primary.
But 52% for EE in Sangamon County? They’ve never even seen this guy. Take a look at the other numbers. The downstaters will vote for just about anyone else. Can you say “Governor Topinka?” …and I’m a Democrat.

Eric Weiss won 53% to 47% over Boyd
Totals:
Eric: 7681
Boyd: 5533
This was a really interesting race. Proved that money wasn’t near as important as shoe leather, and building a team of operators who functioned well together working their areas.
Boyd had all the ‘old money’ (raised easy over $100+++k compared to around $45k for Eric), but Eric was mostly local money, whereas Boyd’s was from mostly outside Kendall County.
Also, almost all the County elected officials (County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, County Treasurer, etc.) were for Eric, whereas all the old line establishment types were for Boyd.
Interesting night in Kendall County.

Actually 7,602 Weis (58%) to 5,472 Ingenmunson (42%) according tho the Kendall Co. website.
Kendall Co. is a tight knit community but with a lot of newcomers as it was the #2 growth county in the US last year and #3 this year. Ingenmunson and Weis both have ties to the old guard, but I suspect Weis got more of the newcomer’s vote.
The real question is, when will a Democrat be elected to any office in the county - notwithstanding Marilyn Michelini, village president of Montgomery, whose town straddles Kane and Kendall counties.
Surprising to see the results of the 2 Dems vying for Hastert’s seat - left winger Ruben Zamora didn’t even carry his hometown of Aurora this time, while the well-scrubbed Caucasian, John Laesch, could almost pass for a moderate Republican with his military record and faith-based references. He won’t come close to unseating the Speaker in the general, but he might have an outside shot at winning some office in the county someday.
