* Governor Pat Quinn has a new Twitter account…
Acccording to the Associated Press, the governor’s office has launched an official Twitter feed and Flickr photo page, which they say the governor will use to get feedback from people around the state. His office says that when the governor tweets, his missives will be marked with “-GOV.”
Quinn’s inaugural tweets Wednesday evening included a shout out to the Biotechnology Industry Organization, a national biotechnology group that presented Gov. Quinn with its “Governor of the Year” award in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
He also thanked U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) for his welcome to the online community. Sen. Durbin launched his own Twitter feed in early March.
The governor’s account is here. I went through the list of people he’s following and noticed that his first follow appeared to be, um, me.
* The Question: Any Twitter advice for Gov. Quinn? Snark is encouraged, of course, but in the spirit of things, try to keep your anwer under 140 characters.

Gov, just some advice…..those days where you tend to drift off and have “long blinks” or start to do the Hungry Chicken while your up on stage nodding off….keep ur eyes open with ur twitter account. People will actually believe your paying attention…..

Our state office managers are all in a dither about social media, making a facebook page and twitter account for the agency… without thinking it through that the people on state computer networks can’t access that stuff. So the workers have no idea what the folks higher up are saying.
It is an example of state government thinking in microcosm.

If Quinn learned to write speeches as short as tweets, he’d come off better in public appearances. As Mies said: “less is more”.

Rich, shouldn’t you be asking Quinn to try to keep his answers under 140 characters? Maybe tweeting will cause him to be more succinct in his speeches.

I think important people, like Governors and U.S. Senators, pretty much have to “tweet” these days (ya know, it’s the “in” and “politically correct” thing to do), but thank goodness (and I’m CERtain this entry is well over 140 “characters,” the rest of us average Joes and Sues don’t have to feel that need!

When he is constantly cut off at 140 characters the ether will be filled with the governor’s incomprehensible 1/8th completed thoughts. (Then, a frequent QOTD can be: “What do you think the governor actually meant to say before this twitter comment was cut off?”)
