* Many thanks to the readers of the Washington Post’s “The Fix” blog for naming this website the best state-based political blog in Illinois…
In a handful of states, one blog — or sometimes two — were recommended far more than others. In those cases — Sayfie Review for Florida, Capitol Fax for Illinois, Plunderbund for Ohio — the blog leads the state list and is in bold. In all other cases, the blogs are listed in alphabetical order.
* The Question: What is your favorite non-political Illinois-based website or blog? Explain.
*** UPDATE *** OK, not a lot of response. Apparently, y’all don’t read too many non-political blogs. So, let’s try an alternate question: What’s your favorite Illinois-based local politics blog?

Is the Beachwood Reporter non-political, or just non-politicalish? I think Rhodes does a pretty good job of skewering the local media as well as the political spin that’s on every story coming out of City Hall. Is he a little too self-righteous? Yes, but there aren’t enough people willing to look past the easy story and get to what really matters. Rhodes, for all of his faults, cuts through a lot of BS for his readers.

Love second city hockey, but they are seasonal.
I have found myself gravitating over to Chicago Magazine and Time Out Chicago a great deal these days. Both have great blogs, lots of good stuff from neighborhood, to sports, to politics. Sorry for the regional only site, but the Trib and ST could learn something from these guys.

Mary Tyler Mom — http://www.chicagonow.com/mary-tyler-mom Former classmate of mine, funny sometimes, a bit sad sometimes but always a good read.
Local Political — http://openline.blogspot.com/ Openline in Aurora, a bit much at times, but when it comes to some stuff (like the fight between the Mayors Office and the Aurora Housing Authority) they can’t be beat and do a better job (more info, more documents) than the Beacon News IMHO

Like Harold used to say, politics is like shooting pool or eating potato chips. Once you start, you can’t stop.
I read everything and anything I can on Blackhawk, Shabbona, The Blackhawk War, Jane Addams, Lincoln, Grant, Sheridan, the Civil War and Reagan in Illinois and Iowa.
I’m currently on a quest to find if there were ever any writings or written accounts of conversation between Lincoln and John Quincy Adams. They were House colleagues for a short time (Adams dropped dead objecting to the Mexican-American War in the House; Lincoln also famously opposed the war in a House speech). If someone can help a brother out, I’d be much obliged.
Out of the blue, I recently read the Spoon River Anthology online. I was blown away. You should do it, too.
