* Yesterday, the AP ran this quote from Gov. Pat Quinn about the ComEd bill, which had been held in the Senate via a parliamentary maneuver for almost two months…
“I think we’re going to veto the [ComEd] bill as soon as it arrives,” Quinn said.
Now that the bill is officially on his desk, Quinn was asked when he would veto it…
“Yeah, I have to officially do that. We’ll find the right moment to do that.”
First, though, he went through one of his trademark long, rambling responses…
“Well, that just arrived yesterday. That’s a bill to raise utility rates on people who are Ameren customers and ComEd customers. I’m not sure anybody in Illinois is for higher utility rates, whether you’re in agriculture, or business or you’re a consumer in your household. I don’t think we should be raising utility rates. I started the Citizens Utility Board about 30 years ago and we’re going to fight hard to make sure customers and consumers and businesses get first [unintelligible].”

* And here’s Gov. Quinn responding not long ago to a question about expanding gaming to the State Fairgrounds…
“Harness racing has been at the fair for a long time but when you put in slot machines, that’s a wholly different situation. I was never excited about that. We’ve got Lady Antebellum coming on Sunday. Can’t go wrong with that. I think that’s enough. Who needs slot machines when you have MC Hammer?”

Another ineffective and embarrassing Governor from Illinois. Hardy har har. I know we would all rather laugh than cry, but I’m tired of accepting incompetence from our leaders as the status quo in this state. I guess we have no choice for a while.

Seriously, I know this state could use a smart grid do over of some sort - is there a serious review of the plan somewhere I could read that would give me the straight poop? To listen to ComEd it is like the second coming. To listen to PQ it sounds more the the money changers run amok. Sheeesh.

And today there is another story of Quinn appointing another daughter of a Chicago alderman to a state board at a high salary for not much work. How many is this for Quinn? Isn’t this part of why Blagojevich was impeached and convicted? I think Patrick Fitzgerald should wake up and start collecting the evidence to send Quinn to the slammer.

If doing something like hiring an alderman’s daughter at a state board was illegal, the whole state would be in prison. They’d just run electrified razor wire on the borders and call it a day.

I’d love to know if Pat Quinn has actually listened to the music of Lady Antebellum before stating that “you can’t go wrong with that.”

I’m glad to hear that Governor Quinn is against the Tenaska facility since it will raise rates by $8.6 billion over the next 30 years!!!

Despite the state being inelligible for bankruptcy, the enterprise is insolvent.
This agency is now paying a part-time secretary $32/hour.
Schnorf should have just written this position out of the budget, and told those relying on the work to be done to type and file for themselves.

I still can’t believe the Illinois GOP couldn’t beat this guy. Hopefully the conservative wing of the party learned their lesson. (Moderate Kirk won, conservative Brady lost.)

Recollection is that M C Hammer’s Oaktown Stable went belly up , even though they finished 3rd in Kentucky Derby in 1992 ? Poor management did him in.
Slots wouldn’t have saved M C and slots won’t save Illinois racing. Poor management did it in.

Funny, the state’s concern about keeping the horse racing industry afloat. It wasn’t like anyone was trying to save the telegraph industry, or the record stores, or other antiquities of the world whose time had passed.
