Your mission, should you choose to accept it

* From Gov. Pat Quinn’s Twitter feed

Dropped by @Wendys at 111th and State for lunch http://twitpic.com/7qwcd4

* The photo, which I cropped down to size and color-adjusted to make it easier to see…

Dude… Seriously?

* I’ve been thinking about what to do with this pic for the past 24 hours, and I finally decided that we just can’t pass it up. I mean, hey, he posted it. Besides, we’re finally done with this year’s session and I need as many distractions as I can get.

So, campers, while this could very well be the most difficult assignment I have ever given you, I’d like you to caption the above photo without any racy (and I mean that both ways) commentary.

Do not get yourself banned for life. Keep it totally clean. If you have doubts about your comment, don’t post it. Yes, I’m fully aware that this will be almost impossible to do, but I have faith in you… I think. Don’t let me down, but do make me laugh.

  2. Governor Quinn creates new jobs by signing legislation removing sales tax from Frosty sales. Governor Quinn claimed that the legislation, costing the state just $50,000, would create 300 new jobs in the Springfield area alone, although an aide acknowledged that those were just preliminary numbers.

  16. the staff’s smiles soon faded as Governor Quinn was joined by his new head of the Burger Commission Aaron Jaffe who then said to the collected media

“I don’t understand the eagerness of the legislature to allow people to eat burgers. The arguments that you can get a burger in Indiana ring hollow to me. Don’t people know that burgers are bad? Now cottage cheese, that’s good for you!”

Comment by OneMan Thursday, Dec 15, 11 @ 12:20 pm

  17. “This restaurant, like so many others in our great state, is staffed by hardworking Illinoisans. Illinoisans with jobs that they use to provide for themselves and their families. Nobody knows better than some of these people how hard it can be to raise a family. It’s been hard for a long time. But Illinois has seen difficult times before. When Abraham Lincoln first began his career in our state, he met with failure. But through perseverance, and hard work, he acheived greatness. Greatness is something Illinois knows as well. From our success in athletic competitions of all stripes, on all levels, from NIU to SIU to DePaul to Northwestern. We’re a land of champions. We’re a land of champions not only on the playing field but also in other fields. Soybean fields. Cornfields. Our agricultural industry is the envy of countries from Germany to Japan to China. The progress we’ve made in agricultural technologies has led to a level of food production unseen in human history. It’s led to tasty, affordable products like this Triple Baconator, which I now intend on consuming.”

Comment by ChicagoJ Thursday, Dec 15, 11 @ 12:23 pm

  18. I enjoyed this burger, a burger that came from a cow. Cows are a majestic animal, cows are fed corn that might have come from here in Illinois. Then again soy burgers made from fine Illinois soy are also really good tasting and good for you. Perhaps the corn that fed the cow that became this burger, a tasty burger, was harvested by equipment made here in Illinois.”

And with that the manager asked several staff members to pose with the governor so he would stop talking.

Comment by OneMan Thursday, Dec 15, 11 @ 12:23 pm

  19. So you see the patty on a Wendy’s hamburger is square, not round like in other establishments. I appreciate people who are willing to try new approaches to things. That’s what we try to do in the governor’s office, not be afraid to be a square burger in a round patty world because in the end it’s about whether you taste good. We think we’ve got the juiciest, tastiest, squarest governor’s office around, and people should be proud of that, good hard working salt-of-the-earth people that aren’t afraid to tackle a Triple Baconator if needed. And if you look around my administration you’ll see a lot of people who aren’t afraid to take on that Baconator whether it be at Wendy’s or in the form of a budget deficit. You know who I miss? Clara Peller. You know, the “where’s the beef?” woman. Little known fact, the Wendy’s people dumped Clara in 1985 because she did a Prego ad. That wasn’t right. We’re about everyone in, no one left out, not even lil ol Clara Peller. If Clara was here today I’d buy her lunch, well, OK, I have a two-for-one Baconator coupon I’d split with her. But she’s not here so I’ll have to eat them both, but I’m not afraid to because that’s what being governor is all about, making tough decisions like having to eat two, Triple Baconators on a Wednesday afternoon to make sure the proud, hardworking taxpayers of the Land of Lincoln recognize the full savings this coupon offers.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Thursday, Dec 15, 11 @ 12:25 pm

  20. If his current job doesn’t last much longer, the governor can replace Dave Thomas as the Wendy’s spokesman. “Have you seen our value menu? It’s got something for everyone–salads for the Democrats, burgers for the Republicans, Frosties for the media….That reminds of when I met Ray Kroc at a fundraiser in Oak Brook back in the 70s….oh wait…Wendy’s is the All-American burger….Dave Thomas was a great American….everyone who eats here is a great American….”

  22. After not being able to move the State Legislature to respond to his initiatives, Gov. Quinn named three random teenage Wendy’s works to head his legislative liaison office. When questioned about the qualifications of his newly appointed staff, the Governor said “Ever see Madigan turn down a Frosty? Pretty sneaky, ehh?”

  33. I think I’d like to order an old fashioned hamburger with pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Hold the lettuce, but put some extra onions on there. Old fashioned is a good name for a hamburger, just like Larry is a good name for a coach. When I was younger, I had a coach named Larry in little league. He taught me that you can never hit a curve ball unless you had one eye closed and were staring at the pitcher’s shirt button as his arm released the ball. The problem was he never told us which eye to close, so I experimented with both several times to see which one worked better. Baseball sure is a swell game, has lots of great food at the ballpark.

Oh right, food. I’d also like an order of fries with that and some sweet and sour sauce instead of ketchup. I’m feeling a little “saucy” today. Ha! Did you get it, saucy?!? I like to make a little joke every now and again to lighten the mood. People are too dour these days and a little joke always lightens the mood. Did you hear the one about Mitt Romney and the pancakes? No, it won’t take that long, let me tell it.

So, two cooks are firing up some flap jacks and… hey, what are you doing? Oh, you want to take a picture? Okay, I like pictures. Why don’t you come over here and you over here, and yeah, you just go over there and we’ll take a picture. Great, who has a camera? Oh, I have one on my phone. It’s one of these new fangled smart phones. I don’t know why they call them smart, if they were so smart they would actually make some better phone calls instead of taking pictures!

Okay, which one are we looking at here? This one? Okay, go! That one came out blurry. Guess that phone isn’t so smart now is it! Let’s try it again. Great!

Anyway, back to the joke. So then Mitt Romney walks into the room and says, “Hey, flip me up some of those flap jacks…” oh, what? Do I want anything to drink? Sure, drinks are great. I’ll have a Green River. You don’t have Green River? Aww, that’s too bad. Green River is a great drink. Started right here in the great state of Illinois back during prohibition and was second only to Coca Cola in popularity in the Midwest. I guess I’ll just have some water.

Thank you and enjoy the picture.

  51. This is the last picture existing of the failed revival of “Dreamgirls”. We all know what happened on Election Day. Quinn won, well ….

The musical was scheduled to open at the Shubert Theatre just weeks after the election, counting on a Quinn loss, and Quinn counting on a “fall back” job.

Quinn’s miraculous victory led to the destruction of all the press kits …but today … we unearth this surviving press still to think … “what might have been”.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Dec 15, 11 @ 3:01 pm

  52. Wendy’s restaurant staff took a picture with Governor Pat Quinn today.

    The reason?

Quinn used his “Frequent Stay” card during a puchase at the fast food establishment, claiming after 10 stays at a Days Inn, you get 1 night free … and … a free Wendy’s Frosty at a participating Wendy’s reastaurant.

Not wanting to offend the Chicago Democrat, the staff “honored” the “free Frosty” deal, but requested a photo, because no one would believe this story any other way.
