Perception and reality

* I’m not sure what these things are called, but there are a ton of them on every different topic imaginable and they’re making the rounds. I posted one about lobbyists in the subscriber section this morning and then a political type sent me this. Click the pic for a larger image…

  2. Apparently this was made by one of Brady’s staffers. I don’t think Quinn’s people get accused of murdering puppies.

The Lobbyist one didn’t quite hit for me, so thanks for the upgrade.

  4. Good. I’d just switch the captions on the first two photos. They’ve probably been messing around in deomcracy since the ancient Greeks.

  6. There is a funny video on youtube titled “So You Want to Work on Campaigns?” that is along these lines. Made in a crummy animation program, it involves someone interested in campaigns who thinks having watched West Wing means he can be an advisor to a presidential candidate.

  7. Anon — It is not a “funny video.” It is a documentary. (Sigh.)

  9. i always laugh when people refer to west wing. who wouldn’t want to work in that spacious, decked out environment? unfortunately, the white house is just the opposite — crowded, ancient and not at all for anyone who’s ever even thought they were claustrophobic…

  10. A picture is worth a thousand words; I do agree with Mark Walker. Thanks for posting it, Rich.

  12. Clearly put together by someone working their first campaign. That “What I actually do” picture is clearly an entry level person. Just sayin’.

  13. I’m sure if National Lampoon was still around they wouldn’t like someone ripping off their famous cover, If You Don’t Buy this Magazine We’ll Kill this Dog.

  15. I’ve had friends and family members assume and ask the most ridiculous things. “Do you know the president?” is one of my personal favorites - that and people who think my position allows me to advise people like Speaker Boehner and Leader McConnell when there are issues of national importance. A lot of people also think that campaign work involves either sitting around while doing nothing or traveling through every single county with a thousand yard signs an enough clothes to last me through Christmas.

  16. How can we show a picture listening to people in a meeting room in an old Holiday Inn, and trying to look interested in their inept & out of date ideas while trying to get them to walk for your candidate, wondering how many more cheap beers you have to drink before they might make some sense.

  17. I’m not sure that “society” thinks political operatives are as good-looking, loveable and noble as the cast from “The West Wing.” No one could be.

And for the political operatives who see themselves in “The 300,” what exactly did you like about that movie?

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Feb 16, 12 @ 5:20 pm

  18. Perfect.

  19. “…what exactly did you like about that movie?”

A little out of context, but it was obviously the warrior’s “uniforms”…and the trading cards of the warrior’s in their uniforms.

    Silly word.
