Can we call him a perennial loser now?

Posted in:

Krol has the story:

Sugar Grove dairy magnate Jim Oberweis lost another election Wednesday night.

The second-place finisher in last month’s Republican governor primary won’t be serving as Kane County Republican chairman or joining the Republican State Central Committee. Oberweis lost a bid for the unpaid party leadership posts to incumbent Kane party chairman Dennis Wiggins Wednesday night.

“I’m going to be around doing whatever I can to help rebuild the party in Kane County, to help rebuild the party throughout the state of Illinois,” Oberweis told nearly 130 assembled Republican precinct committeemen, before conceding defeat less than halfway through the roll call.

The loss marks the sixth major Republican post Oberweis has sought and failed to win since 2002. The list includes two runs for U.S. Senate, an attempt to be a replacement Senate candidate, state GOP chairman and governor. Oberweis was, however, elected unopposed last month as a Sugar Grove Township Republican precinct committeeman.

“Perennial” makes me think of flowers — and I like flowers — so I prefer to think of Oberweis as a “chronic loser.”

  4. As precinct committeeman… can we expect him going door-to-door in future elections organizing his precinct?

  5. Although I don’t like the guy, he was right and we were wrong regarding last month’s primary. He far surpassed what the “experts” considered would be his vote totals. He could have won if Brady got out. He was right about that, we were wrong.

We should be giving him credit when credit is due and stop these snide comments. I’d never vote for him, but you don’t disrespect folks just for the heck of it.

  6. “He could have won if Brady got out.” That is nonsense. Oberweis didn’t earn the votes. Brady did not steal them. Brady could have won if Oberweis got out. The Patriots could have won Super Bowl XX if the Bears got out, too.

  7. I don’t think people are disrespecting him just “for the heck of it” … I think respect is earned, not given, and disrespect is as well.

  9. That’s too bad. They told him to work his way up and won’t let him do that, even. The guy’s paid his dues.

  11. Obie is a joke. Hopefully, this latest and most humiliating loss will convince the guy to stay out of politics.

  14. “Perennial loser”…nah, I’d say more like “gadfly”. Oberweis got what he deserved at the Kane County Republican Convention in Geneva on April 19th. He got it but good!

This gadfly needs to get the message that he is no longer wanted. The message of “reform” is desperately needed in Republican politics in Illinois. Oberweis was the wrong messenger.

Expect this Oberweis character to be back in 2008 running for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, or to run for the Republican nomination for the 14th congressional district to succeed Denny Hastert (assuming Hastert decides to retire in 2008, as expected).

The nerve of Oberweis to challenge a genuine Republican hero like Kane County Republican Chairman Denny Wiggins, a man whose been serving the Republican Party since the 1960s and actually backed Oberweis for U.S. Senate on the Republican State Central Committee in 2004. Talk about backstabbing a friend and ally, all because of Oberweis’ bloated ego.

The 2006 election cycle has seen the end of the political careers of State Senators Steve Rauschenberger and Adeline Geo-Kairis. I only wish the ambition of Jim Oberweis would simply go away, too.

Oberweis, the Republican gadfly of Illinois.
