And, our owners, past and present, ne’er traded away their most valuable assets when they were 3.5 games back on July 31, in a trade so morally devastating it earned its own Wikipedia page.

  27. It tells you a lot about the mental makeup of sox fans that they’re getting excited about going 4-2 against the cubs this year. This is a barely starting to rebuild cub team with a first year manager and a gm who’s been on the job 8 months.

Also if I was a white sox fan, I’d be really upset at jerry reinsdorf claiming poverty and that he can’t use trades to improve the team unless he gets more $$$ to pay for salary. No one told him he had to pay $$$ for alex rios when no one in baseball wanted him.

  29. ===This is a barely starting to rebuild cub team with a first year manager and a gm who’s been on the job 8 months.===

We also have a first year manager, but ours has never managed before. We have a lot of young players who were totally untested before this year. And our big DH hit .159 last year with just 66 hits. Nobody, but nobody, expected the White Sox to do well this year. I thought we might even be worse than y’all.

So, please, spare me the “Wait ’til next year” crud. It’s always “Wait ’til next year” for youse clowns. The schtick is old. Wake up like I finally did and come into the light.

    Go Sox.

  40. Thinking …

A County Board Chairman becomes preeminent, she’s expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiasms… Enthusiasms… What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Softball! A player stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There she stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork…. Looks, throws, catches, hustles - part of one big team. Bats herself the live-long day, Frank Thomas, Adam Dunn, and so on. If her team don’t field… what is she? You follow me? No one! Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does a rogue Commissioner have to say? “I’m goin’ out there for myself. But… I get nowhere unless the whole County Board wins.”

Absolutely. The Ricketts are doing a swell job of building public support. There might be someone left in Chicago who hasn’t been insulted by their insufferable sense of entitlement.

A real farm system? Please advise what you mean by that.

As far as Theo goes, let’s see if he can win something without overpaying for players with syringes up their bums.

Well, either low and away, or in my ear.
He’s not gonna wanna load the bases, so look low and away.
    Right.
But watch out for in your ear.

  51. A league of her own….

The high point of the Cubs season is winning 2 of 3 in US Cellular. That’s pretty pathetic. Game 2 could have gone either way.

Bottom line is the Cubs are still the worst team in baseball and the Sox are 1/2 game out of first place.

Comment by Stones Thursday, Jun 21, 12 @ 2:02 pm

  52. === a barely starting to rebuild cub team ===

    Rebuild?

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

“Rebuild” implies that you had a team once, and presuming that you actually want to win the world championship someday, that you’ve won it sometime in the not-to-distant-past. And have been “rebuilding” since then.

If this is “rebuilding,” The Parthenon will be rebuilt sooner.

  53. - Wensicia - Thursday, Jun 21, 12 @ 11:46 am:

Considering the Sox are doing so well, why are their fans still so bitter?

Sox fans are the downstaters of the baseball rivalry. They can never be happy unless they’re looking down and blaming some other team.

The main difference between Sox fans and Cubs fans is that Cubs fans seldom think about the Sox. Sox fans constantly think about the Cubs.

I’m not a sports fan, but Sox fans are the “tea party” of baseball. Give them some motorized scooters and three point hats and let them roll to Cooperstown.

What do you mean, 300? Must have double counted some. Was sure there were only 280 or so fans in the stands. Thought most of them were Cubs fans anyway.

Maybe we could convert US Cellular field into a central maintenance barn for the CTA buses. Then we would at least be doing something productive with the facility.

  57. First off Monday night was due to our pitching issues.

Tuesday I felt bad for Peavy, he pitched so well but we could not get another run in to tie, one more to win.

Last night was Ya! Sox, they are back.

Also note we on the South side admit our faults, not blaming it on the goat, the poor scape goat.
