*** UPDATED x2 - IL Review accuses DCCC of theft - Ad hits Plummer’s “experience” *** DCCC airs TV ad about “one of them” Schilling

Posted in:

* The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has a new TV ad attacking Republican Bobby Schilling. Rate it

* Script…

Everything moves faster these days…

Even the time it takes a Congressman to lose touch with us.

Like Bobby Schilling.

Schilling voted to cut Medicare, costing seniors an extra $6400 per year… to pay for tax breaks for millionaires.

And jobs? Schilling voted to keep tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and supports bad trade deals that hurt us here at home.

Bobby Schilling, it sure didn’t take long for HIM to become one of THEM.

*** UPDATE 1 *** The DCCC also has a far more aggressive TV ad ripping Republican Jason Plummer

* Script…

Meet Jason Plummer.

He’s only had one full-time job, working for his dad, but he’s got millions in the bank.

He wants to be your Congressman, but praised a plan that would essentially end Medicare –

making seniors pay thousands more every year for health insurance…

…all while giving more tax breaks to millionaires like himself.

Jason Plummer: Giving tax breaks to his family. Ending Medicare for yours.

*** UPDATE 2 *** IL Review claims the DCCC stole their footage…

Hmmm, the DCCC and Enyart paid to have the ad produced. They’re paying television stations to run the spot. But they lack the professional courtesy to ask permission before appropriating our proprietary footage.

Given the DCCC’s and Enyart’s actions and outright theft, Illinois Review is demanding they immediately pull the ad, and publicly apologize. Stealing video from a conservative blog to create an ad that lies about a conservative candidate is beyond-the-pale. Or should be for the DCCC and Bill Enyart.

  1. effective ads in my opinion. Schilling’s ad is easier to respond to. Plummer is getting the worst of all worlds. Blasted for being a millionaire while not having a whole lot of liquid assets to put into the race. At least that’s my guess.

  2. Why is it necessary to spend money preaching to the Democrats within newly redrawn Democratically leaning districts? These ads aren’t to convince Independent or Republicans with their cookie cutter farcical claims, the ads are for gullible Democrats.

Does the DCCC think they need to get their own voters scared onto the voting booths 60 days from now?

  3. Yeah, poor JP. If only more of his millions were liquid, it’d be so much easier to win!!!

    American Dream deferred.

  4. So plummers a millionaire Still beats the guy who is friends with Blago and Quinn.

  5. The Plummer ad uses misleading info that has been shot down numerous outlets– not just the GOP.

The $6,400 Medicare number is a “myth” based on an out-of-date CBO estimate that the DEMS still using even though it has been debunked. Current seniors will see no change under the current GOP Medicare plan…CBO announced it can’t model the current GOP plan.

Um, if it can’t be modeled, then how do you know what the impact will be?

  7. Nothing new in terms of slants and thrusts. Both have on their big boy pants, and knew these ads were in the pipeline. Question is, how much is the DCCC willing to spend on these two races?

  8. wow- that Plummer ad is a punch in the gut

  9. Schilling has lost touch. I know him and he is not the same, friendly guy he was. He’s all about a photo op and that seems to be about it.

  10. That Plummer ad is pathetic. It is class warfare plain and simple. Attacking the values that made the United States the world superpower is unpatriotic and the Democrats should be ashamed of themselves. With the “work ethic” I am seeing esposued from the Democrats cheerleading session in Charlotte, it is clear this country would cease to be a superpower and loose its American exceptionalism if these “values” take over. Democrats attack success in business as something bad. This pathway will weaken our country. Class warfare plain and simple and the voters will see through it.

  11. The schilling ad is awful for democrats. What’s the point in raising the money, spending the time recruiting the candidate to run against him to run some ad they’re probably running in 40 other districts? You need to say why SCHILLING should be fired. The more effective ads are generally done by the people that know the opponent the best and know what messages and images work.

The plummer ad is more effective from democrats although you can find pictures that do a better job trashing him. Obama has really dented romney with the rich guy that doesn’t care about you, and with plummer who reminds me a lot of galifanakis in hangover 2 “the clueless stay at home son” and I think is the right way to sink him.

All in all though given their redistricting and obama edges it’s bad for democrats that they have to work to win these seats.

  12. Both are pretty good ads. I do find it funny that the DCCC is touting that it didn’t take Shilling “long to become one of them” and a picture of the Capitol. So essentially their saying, it didn’t take him very long to become of “us”?

Comment by Ahoy! Thursday, Sep 6, 12 @ 1:47 pm

  13. They’re both pretty good ads.

The sending jobs overseas issue hits pretty hard in the Quad cities. I’ve seen polling cycle after cycle that shows its a winning issue.

And Plummer? So much material to work with, how do you use it all?

Republicans can deny the $6400 figure all they want. President Clinton used it last night, and it seemed pretty credible. If Plummer wants to refute it, Enyart should just refer reporters to Bill Clinton. “Don’t take my word for it: you can believe a kid whose only job in his life is working for his dad, or you can believe President Clinton. And Bill Clinton says that Jason Plummer’s plan would force seniors to pay $6400 more.”

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Thursday, Sep 6, 12 @ 2:05 pm

  14. The “Plummer’s only job is working for his dad” is so tired and baseless. The DNC’s opposition research even shows that he owns some of his own companies and has his own employees.

I hope the RNC runs an ad against Rod’s General (Enyart) exposing the fact that he and his wife earn more than $350k/year in public pensions. Not that this state has any pension issues or anything.

Comment by East Sider Thursday, Sep 6, 12 @ 2:27 pm

  15. Reality, “class warfare”? That’s funny…almost as funny as “voting fraud”. But the thing that is most offensive is the notion of “American exceptionalism”. Just how is that defined? America is better than the rest of the world because God told us so? It certainly is no longer based in it’s historic context.

    Comment by D.P. Gumby Thursday, Sep 6, 12 @ 3:04 pm

  16. Both DNCCC ads are hit the target. I don’t know Plummer as well as I do Schilling, but Schilling is starting to look very vulnerable. Bustos appears to have a stronger ground game than does Schilling. Could be a huge upset in the makings in Northwestern Illinois.

Comment by redrum Thursday, Sep 6, 12 @ 3:41 pm

  17. I looked carefully and I was actually surprised that IR appears to be correct at the 0:02 point in the DCCC ad compared to 2:06 in the IR video. Not sure if it is illegal since IR had it on-line but was still surprised IR’s facts were correct.

  18. “Current seniors will see no change under the current GOP Medicare plan…”

How long do you think young people will be willing to pay taxes to support Medicare for old people once they understand it will not be there for them? This is just a Republican ploy to kill Medicare once and for all.

Offensive?! To whom Gumby? You and others who have lost the spirit of what made this land the shining example to the world it is today? You would have us “stand down” on our values to not offend your sensibilities. Poppy-cock. The United States is the world superpower because of American Exceptionalism and god help us if those of your ilk take control. This is one of the primary differences between Republicans and Democrats today and I think we just witnessed it in the Dem Convention yesterday when we saw clearly that 2/3 of the hall did NOT vote to restore god and Irael to the platform but booed and hissed. Is this the element we want controlling government? Unfortunatley, the spin-meisters and the current administration are too worried about offending the sensibilities of folks like you and not serious about defending our nation’s values. This is why we will see another Republican landslide in November with Romney taking the White House, the Senate going red and the House Republicans increasing their majority.

  20. Dear Fed Up: General Enyart is someone who has led a group of 13,000 Illinois citizens in military actions and disaster response. Disagree with him if you like, but do him and yourself some respect and come up with something better than listing the names of two governors he has served (to whom he is responsible by statute) and calling them “buddies”. Come up with something better. By the way, where was your time in uniform served?

  21. All I will say about this Medicare plan is, if Romney-Ryan take office with united control and Plummer and Schilling somehow vote for their plan (though I predict the GOP will revolt before they actually pass it - it would kill them in 2014), then it’s a lousy time to be 54 years old in America …
